Nov 4, 2010I'm looking for a "do it all" media player - video, audio, podasts, the whole thing. Preferably free, but that isn't a dealbreaker. Any recommendations?

View 8 RepliesI have all (almost all) of my movies ripped to Divx/Xvid as .avi files. What player is best suited to playing these? I tried the stock players & they didn't work. will Doubletwist play them? I really don't want to convert them over again. Also, coming from the iPhone, I loved the way it synced my podcasts - I see that people rally like Isyncr. Is that the best app to use? At this point, until I re-think my home media integration solution, I want to stay with iTunes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to skip audiobook mp3 files in Media Player. It's especially troublesome when trying to listen to music on random. I guess I could make a playlist, but I have thousands of songs I'd have to add. What I would really like to do is just exclude the Audiobook folder from the Music Player all together.

View 10 Replies View RelatedAnyone else noticed their phone making peculiar playlists for their MP3's? I made 3 playlists using doubleTwist and put them on my phone and when I rebooted my phone yesterday my phone had created several other playlists on it's own each with no more than 3 or 4 songs in it. Anyone else noticed anything similar to this at any point?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with my M3U playlists.
I use the default Samsung media player, Isyncr and Itunes. Although I have also used the Doubletwist Player (not the desktop software) and had the same issue, I just prefer the Samsung default player mainly because of the lock screen app.
Here is the issue.
First, I sync my playlists with Itunes using Isyncr, all of the songs come over great, art and tags, everything is perfect. It also creates M3U playlists on my phone. I double checked that everything is there.
Then when I unmount, media scanner scans my SD card (which takes way longer than it should) and it deletes all of my playlists. Now a little research on XDA forums tells me that this is because anytime the media scanner scans a playlist and can't find all of the songs from that playlist, it assumes it is an old playlist and deletes it. The problem is that when I look through the M3U files, every song referenced in the list is on the card...they are all there, yet it keeps deleting them.
Does anyone know of a solution to make it stop deleting my playlists?
I know that some people were able to do this with the Nexus One. So has anyone (who has gotten it early) done the same?

In the sense that it tell's me it's not supported in my country (USA)... Or is there something wrong with my phone?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of getting a Samsung Captivate to replace my Treo 650/Archos 5 (4.8in pmp, the headphone jack of which died). My question is, how is the video/music player on the Captivate? I've been looking for days, and have a decent idea of the music player, but I can't find even one article or post saying anything about the media player besides the codecs/containers it can play. Can anyone vouch for its ability to play 720p h.264 or xvid videos? I was thinking of getting an Archos 32 (low end android based pmp) for its media capabilities, but realized for about the same price I could get a captivate.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSamsung Galaxy S getting "Unsupported file format" on .mp3s in AllShare (DLNA). Want to stream music from Windows 7 computer to Android device. Connected AllShare to Windows Media Player 12 over WiFi G network to "Play file from server on my phone". I can browse PC media folders from the Galaxy S. In AllShare, I click an .MP3 from my PC library, add it to the AllShare playlist, then the circle spins for about 10 seconds and I finally get the pop-up error "Unsupported file format." All .mp3's are DRM-free unprotected files. They play fine directly from the MicroSD card through the standard Android Music app. Disconnected/reconnected WiFi, same results. Read a few other posts on various forums, a few people have the same issue. Looks like fewer are even trying to use DLNA like this. Heard plenty of "hypothetical" troubleshooting steps but still searching for someone who's actually tried the steps & got it to work. Some had success with other DLNA media servers or by using different software altogether. I want to specifically stream music from a PC to my SGS using DLNA & WMP. Great for portability. Any "dittos"? Resolutions? By the way this device is AWESOME (Sprint Epic 4G) Also I realize this post is verbose; I want it to easily appear for others' search results. Please feel free to copy, paste & post in a more appropriate forum or thread.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I put some movies on my captivate using handbrake to rip from dvd. When I pause a movie using the stock video player and go to another app, then come back, it doesn't seem to remember where I left off at and I have to start all over, or manually remember where I was before I switch. Was wondering if there's something I'm missing, or if that's not supported.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm afraid to root my phone and I understand that's the only way to get rid of the default music app on my captivate. If I can't get rid of it, is there a way to make it a lame duck and set another player as my default player.
Here's why:
I recently installed Playerpro which has all the features I need in a music player but when I press the headset buttons (which I need for my daily walks) it automatically starts my default music player, which I never use. Granted this may be in an issue with the app as Mixzing and others don't have this issue but is there anyway to set defaults on my droid.
I am using WMP to sync pics, vids and music to the phone and noticed that the album art looks horrible (low definition). I always added my own album art to iTunes and on the iPhone it looks clear and crisp. I figure that iTunes optimizes the photo for the iPhone but i'm trying to now optimize it for the Captivate and am running into a wall.Has anyone else experienced this and fixed the problem?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI cant get my music player to shut down. This happens periodically and it gets really annoying (and embarrassing when Im in class). I searched and read the only way to shut it down is to use the exit/return at the full screen music player and then go to your app killer. Even if I follow these steps and then unplug my headphones the music player will usually 'turn back on' and start playing music at full blast out of my speaker..How can I kill this thing once and for good? btw im using advanced task killer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAre their any music players out their better than the default one?
View 23 Replies View RelatedThis maybe a silly question but how do you turn the music player off ? It has a pause but no stop if i go to home it still plays. I have been going to my settings and app/running serv. and shutting it down that way, but I'm sure there must be an easier way.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm loving my captivate except for one issue. I use my phone as my main mp3 player so its important too me that the music player works flawlessly (keep in mind this is my first android device. View 12 Replies View Relatedreturned my first Cappy today, for a plethora of reasons (Battery, GPS incredibly unsnappy 1ghz processor that my previous iphone 4 crushed) among others. But this one seems to be a happy and healthy cappy so far. Anyway, running in to an issue. I have all of my music in itunes, but converted it and just housed it in windows media player when i took my iphone back and got the captivate. When I put my music on the captivate, I get all kinds of crazy file names, numbers, squiggles and the like. It's showing me the actual file and not what I've tagged it as, so I have very few artwork, cd names, and track names there. I've tried to sync music 2 ways:
1) Hook cappy up to pc under media player mode and sync through windows media player
2) sync with itunes agent
Both methods got the same results. I like my music libary to be smooth and organized, but i can't figure out how to change the files names to what I want! Should i get mp3 tagging software? if so, which kind? Can I just change the name in windows? It's kind of making miss my iphone!
Ive searched around and havent seen an answer for this one yet. all my music is tagged correctly and it plays fine with every other music player, but the samsung music player will recognize some tags and the rest it just files under "unknown" but then it lists all the info under the song title, so i have a ton of songs with long titles by artist "unknown." is there a specific type of tag that the samsung player wants? other than that i actually like the stock music player, especially the drop down on the lock screen. is there another player with a neat drop down like that on the lock screen maybe?
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen I play a song I don't get any album artwork. Is there a secret to this or does the default player not support this. The art work shows up in Itunes. Anyone know of any music app that is better than the stock one?
So the stock music player has the 5.1 setting, which to me makes a huge difference over other players. How many of you feel trapped into using it because it sounds better, like me? i wish I could get the same option on other players
