I've tried like everything. I have Windows 7 64 bit. I can't get either Kies or Kies mini to work. The programs install fine but they never detect my phone. Any suggestions? I've read through this forum and did all the basic suggestions.

I decided to try Kies again. I set it up and hard set my USB connection on the phone to Samsung Kies. I plugged in my phone and didn't even get the notification from Windows that a USB device was plugged in.I unplugged the phone and plugged it back in, this time watching the phone. A very quick message popped up on the phone that said"PC connection available only in idle screen.Close running applications."I checked TasKiller and there wasn't anything running.I scratched my head for a minute and then on a hunch used Home Switcher to change my default and running home screen to TouchWiz. I plugged/unplugged my phone and it worked! It said "MTP application", gave the USB symbol and connected.I then switched my home screen/Launcher to LauncherPro and tried it. It failed like ADW did with the same error! I'm not sure what gives there, but it's something you may want to investigate if you're having trouble using an MTP application like Samsung Kies.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor those still struggling with this, or those just getting this phone and encountering issues, I have a solution for you (that I have not seen posted thus far, and with 90% less black magic - just average, everyday Office blood, sweat, and tears).
If you are just trying to get your contacts, and you can't get Kies to work, try this:
Go to your contacts in Outlook, then selects the contacts you want (ctrl+click if you just want certain ones, shift+click to mass selects, etc), then right click and go to "send full contact" and then "in internet format", and then send the email to yourself. Go to the email, save the contacts you wanted someplace you can find them.
After this, make sure your Captivate is either in "Mass Storage" connect mode or in "ask me" mode. Plug your phone in with the USB and open up the phone in explorer. In another window go to where you saved all those .vcf files and then copy them all to your phone.
Unplug your phone when you are done, then go to your contacts app. Open the menu->more->import/export->import from sd card->phone-> and then whichever option you want (I'd go with all).
Spent 5+ hours trying all the different suggestions (and every different permutation of settings and procedures I could derive from the various programs and dark rituals suggested) before I finally figured this one out. Hope this helps others - it preserved my contacts, pictures I had assigned them, phone numbers, birthdays, etc, without manually entering them for a day or two, or being forced to sync them with gmail (preventing me from giving them custom ringtones...) and saving me any more headaches with 3rd party programs or Kies or any other ridiculous witchcraft.
Anyone using the Mini Diary? Seems like a decent app for preparing Facebook updates without having to post them right then and there. I tried a test publish and it keeps failing. Any idea how to make it work?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got ballsy and since T-Mo is sending me a new phone since this one is Hardware locked and I can't get into ODIN, I opened up mini Kies and got the new firmware. All it did was re-install all the bloat I deleted before and got rid of root.
I don't know if this is universal or I got lucky, but it worked. It hung on the Galaxy S screen for about a minute, but after that it's awesome.
I see 12 Sats indoors and I connect to 7. Outside I see 13 and I connect to 11.
Vibrant is the best phone I've ever owned after this GPS update.
When I first heard about Kies about 2 months or so ago, I still was using my Galaxy Nexus, so I installed the software, followed the steps, and it never got past connecting. Move forward a few months, and now I've got the S4, well, Kies still gets stuck on connecting...this software just refuses to work. Why it won't work, or how to get it to work?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have had kies on my computer for about two months. My phone connected fine and I could save messages and contacts. But now after this kies update I just sits there and says "Connecting the device... Please wait" This is rather annoying. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting, persists to do the same thing. I tried clicking some buttons. It says something about you can't do blah blahh when there is a firmware update. I didn't hit the firmware update button so it shouldn't be downloading and update.

I just installed Kies but whenever i connect my phone Kies tells me "This Device Is Not Supported By Kies" I've restarted my Phone and Computer. I've tried running it in USB Debugging mode and got nothing. Its extremely frustrating.if you have any questions about my problem feel free to ask and I'll gladly answer.

View 28 Replies View RelatedDay 2, now everytime I try and connect the MTP Application screen pops up, then crashes, then pops up again, then crashes, and continues to do so until I unplug. Has anyone else experienced this and fixed it?
Changing the USB setting to anything else, such as Mass Storage, works fine.
I've tried on Windows 7 and WinXP with the same result. Drivers are already on the computer from the first time.
Looks like a new version of Kies 1.5.1.10074.2 is available. Downloading now. Hope this one lets me connect.

For example, everytime I connect the phone it does it automatically. My previous phone was a Samsung i8910 with symbian OS and everytime I have my laptop on, the phone synchronizes everything with outlook over bluetooth. I was really hoping for a way to get this feature somehow on my Captivate.

Kies now just sits there saying Connecting to device, but will not connect.I have tried this several times and cannot get it to connect. Even tried restarting the phone and my computer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been doing a bit of research, and it seems that Samsung Kies is not meant for (or supported) for North America. Apparently, the older versions of Kies could work on our Captivates and was available to download through Samsung's Europe site. However, the newer versions of Samsung Kies can apparently detect that we've got North American Captivates and will not connect. Anybody have links to the older versions? Doesn't proprietary-ness totally defeat the reason we bought androids in the first place?

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and this is already the second time I'm having a problem with the phone being recognized over USB. I have all the drivers installed. Is there some fix for this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedUp until today I've had my phone syncing with Google (Contacts and Calendar). Through a bit of searching and work, I've now finally got Kies installed and I want to have my Captivate sync only with Outlook. The problem I see at this point is that if I sync now, I'm basically going to have everything duplicated in my phone. I simply want to remove the Gmail account and all my existing contacts, calendar entries, etc.
When I go into Accounts & Sync, if I attempt to remove gmail, it states that some programs are using this and I'll have to do a factory restore to remove it. This would apparently remove all my downloaded software which I definitely don't want to do. The phone is rooted and enabled for side loading along with all of AT&T's bloatware blown out. Is there another option that I might be missing to remove this? I really want to use Kies and stop using gmail to sync.
Having waited for FROYO for a while now I was really pleased that Kies had an update which I think includes the Froyo update. I downloaded the update but my phone is not showing as connected in Kies mode. If I attach the phone in mass storage mode it is recognised!Having only just switched from iPhone to Android I cannot believe how shyte Samsung/T-Mobile have been with the software for such a great piece of hardware.I have tried rebooting laptop and phone as well as reinstalling Kies.

Now, sometime later, her mom is now requesting that the mini diary app be re-installed.
The Root fix i used was the release the beast fix. Is there any way someone can post up the APK to be re-installed so I don't have to go through returning the phone to stock?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWell, my GPS was working alright, but I just need to know what I need for a lock. Recently, I checked, and it wasn't locking on, so I turned on the GPS Test application. I was connected to 9-10 satellites, each with the number 30 next to it, yet I wasn't locking in for some reason. I just don't get what I need in order to get the actual "lock" so that it works properly.

Screen protectors, cables, chargers, whatever you use with your Captivate, list it all here so the rest of us know what works. P.S. Headphones, TV cables, cases, FM transmitters, etc.

My current issue is i am trying to use both gmail and my work email in one button(the email accounts stock app ALMOST does this but it will not allow me to use gmail labels which i must have!). Even if i could live without the labels functionality it seems the gmail app is not only my gmail email but myh contacts/calender sync and perhaps even my app ordering account? Does anyone have any ideas for combining my work email with my gmail app while not losing any gmail functionality as well as garenteeing i dont doubel download/sync with the current gmail stock app?
I also have the GPS issue that most people are haveing... are there really people who do NOT have this issue? or are those without the issue not checking? It would seem that if some people dont have this issue it must be a hardware issue? I am quite concerned with this issue... i ave tried the fixes and some work untill i reboot a couple times then i return to an unsable state(settings have not changed)
So I was about to pick up a Captivate today until I spoke with the sales rep about my data plan. I am still using the 1st gen iPhone with the unlimited edge plan. He told me that there was no way for me to use the Captivate with the old plan unless I upgrade to the new ones.
I remember reading online awhile back that used the upgrade path from the 1st iPhone to any of the 3g iPhones, which makes it sound like he is BS'ing. I don't know if it still holds true for the Captivate though.
I have digital copies of a couple movies on itunes... Is there a way to get them to work on the phone? Whenever I try it days unsupported format.
