Samsung Captivate :: How To Load Ring Tone?
Jul 19, 2010
I'm new to the forum and also a new android user ( just got the phone this afternoon). After played with it for a couple hours, I still can't figure out how to set customized ring tones. All I see in settings is the preloaded ring tones. My question is : How do I load my own ring tones and use them? Do i just create a ring tone folder and what should i do from there? Or there are other ways.

Is there a way to mute the ring tone of an incoming call while I am deciding what to do with the call? This morning some idiot rang me at 0150h. I was fumbling to mute the tone before it woke up the whole house. But I could not find any option. In meetings, it is a nuisance if the ringing blares away while I make my way out of the room to take the call.

I have a bunch of midi files for ring tones from my old HTC WM phone. Wondering what directory to drop them into for my new Samsung M900. I can see the SD card, but no system directories like in Windows Mobile.

I like the standard ring tones, but when I get a call its like a freaking ring tone on steroids, it has no pause in between, its like a constant ring and annoys me and everyone around me.

I'm using my new HTC Desire and I have encountered a rather frustrating issue. I have tried searching everywhere but can't find anything that can help me yet. I have found that whenever the phone is charging, the phone is completely mute and will not ring. Likewise, any sms's will go unnoticed as no ring tones/ alerts sound. The phone still operates like normal while charging and will retrieve calls, it's just the phone stays completely silent

Any apps that allow you to change rings tones of Contacts? I don't need one that creates ring tones, has ring tones, etc. Just one that will let me have phone calls use different ring tones depending on who the contact is.

I previously used Handcent but have switched back to the stock manèging app for reason likely only important to me.My question is I can't seem to figure out a way to assign a particular ringtone(notification sound) to a particular contact. I know it has to be right under my nose but I have exhausted the ways that I know.

I have the desire for about 3 months now and i m loving it. however, what irritates me is that every time when a sms is received, the phone only vibrates once, while the ring tone still goes on. i have tried the smart vibrate app. although it can set the length of the vibrate but it will still vibrate even if i have read the sms. any one can recommend any better apps? also it seems to take a long time to power off my phone. is it due to running apps? but i have killed the apps b4 i shut down....

I just downloaded on the computer and put it as a notification tone. Problem is that it's not that loud. If anyone out there know a downloadable link for a good one please post it. Moderators I don't know if u want to make a sticky for post about finding wallpapers, ringtones and downloadable stuff but it'll help rather than having a bunch of noob androids like myself posting new topics everyday. Just a thought.

For example, I've decided that when I get my DX I want "Uncle F***a" for my ring tone and another short audio clip for my text tone. Can I do this or do I have to purchase and download ring/text tones from Verizon?
I have AT&T now, so I don't really know how it works for Verizon and/or if there is a way to do this with the DX.

I'm on my 2nd captivate and both of these bugs have happened on both phones.
First being the backlight remaining on unless I lock the phone manually. This will happen even with the backlight auto turn off set to 30 seconds. This has happened a handful of times, and I can make the backlight turn off if I want by using the lock key, but it will never auto turn off. This is fixed by power cycling the phone.
Second, my notification volume. I've noticed a few times that I'll have a text or something waiting on my phone for which I didn't hear the notification tone. When I go to the phones settings I find that the notification volume is down around 25% instead of the 75% or so I keep it set at. This seems to happen randomly.

I have downloaded and installed Ring droid. I have converted one or two songs to ring tones. Ring droid will allow you to assign that ring tone to a contact at the time you make the ring tone. What I can't figure out is how do you change ring tones for any other individuals? I thought you would go into contacts and there would be an option there, but not. So, I went back to Ring droid and the only way I can find to add a custom ring tone there is to convert the same song again. So now I have three copies of the same ring tone. There has got to be a better way. I know I am knew to the Captivate, but this seems like something that would be a no briner (which I have been accused of being).

I'm new to the Android Software and just purchased the Samsung Captive. I was needing to know, can you have full songs as rings tones when receiving incoming calls. I was able to with my bb bold and it was easy.. But Im having trouble trying to figure it out. just when I think I got it my songs are listed in settings -sounds & display- under notification ring tone and not under my voice call ring tone in sounds & display settings. if anyone can direct me on the "how to process" I'd really appreciate it.

When I make a call there is a short, odd ring-tone that occurs just after I press Dial and before the normal ringing sound begins to indicate the call is going through.
It's about 1/2 second long, can be quite loud sometimes, and is kind of high-pitched....sorry, it's hard to describe. The tone modulates up and down quite fast - da-dum-da-dum-dum (if you can imagine).
I tried re-programming the phone, and also updating roaming, and it's still there every time I make a call. I haven't made any changes to call settings to speak of...never had this on my D1.

I've written an app that has to communicate with a webserver. The server won't allow my app to communicate with it without a certificate. Therefore, the web developer has provided me with a custom Bouncy Castle Keystore file (custom.bks) and I'm want to load this bks file onto my device, thus allowing my app to communicate with that webserver. I've tried saving the .bks file to the sd card, then installing from there but no progress...

I don't know if this was already posted and I am sorry if it was, but I would just like to show people how to sideload apps NOT using root and in very simple words.
1. Download Droid Explorer for your system. (de - Release: Droid Explorer 0.8.7.0 Beta)
2. Now, go to your phone. Settings> Applications> Development > USB Debugging.
3. Make sure you downloaded the drivers for the captivate then plug in your phone and select PC connect and mount the phone.
4. Now open Droid Explorer and connect the device. Right click and select batch install.
5. Now a screen should pop up and you should select the APKs you would like to install and it is self explanatory from there on out.
That should do it, sorry if this was posted somewhere else or something but I kind of figured this out on my own even though I am not a very techy guy.

I have been looking everywhere how to play a ring tone/alarm sound in android. I press a button and I want to play a ring tone/alarm sound. I could not find a easy, straightforward sample. Yes, I already looked at Alarm clock source code. but it is not straightforward and I cannot compile it.

Download and use a program called Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine. It's a one click solution, works amazingly on the Captivate and requires no hassle. The program claims to work on un-rooted phones (though mine is rooted). My girlfriend's Captivate is not rooted though so I will test this out on her phone as well to confirm it. Check it out though. I've already gone to town with this and it works great.

Actually the only problem I have had is sending and receiving picture messages. Anyone know what may cause this? The phone says its connected and full strength signal also.
