So I just rooted. I am looking for the sweet apps that everyone talks about busybox, SetCPU, Root Explorer, Titanium Backup, WiFi and Wired Tether, etc. Do I have to sideload these, can I find them in the market? Do I need to download something special from the market?

Looking for help over in the Troubleshooting section. Phone is not able to download apps (has been "downloading" for a long time with no success). I'm assuming I have a setting that needs to be changed. What is preventing me from adding apps.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI have been having 3G issues on my captivate for a while. I can browse the web just fine and email, text, mms all fine. But downloading apps or things that need continuous internet download (i.e. speed test) will start then stop very slowly. The 3G window in the status bar will then flash occasionally but primarily stay unlit. I've hoped that it would continue to download, but after leaving my phone with the screen off for over an hour with an app downloading (only 2mb) gone from 20kb downloaded to 50kb and my battery went from 80 to 30. This happens for every app I attempt to download over 3G (wifi is perfectly fine) no matter what the size. Any idea why it seems to put the download into the background. I'm currently running cognition mod v2.3b2. This has happened on all versions of cognition I've had. I'm pretty sure it happened while I had stock 2.1 also.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have only had my phone for a few days and i'm starting to have some problems with downloading apps. At first I had no problems I downloaded 8 or 9 of them and they installed fine. Then I was not able to download anymore. Each one I tried to download said "download failed and did not install. When I looked at my status bar it showed 10 or 12 apps that did not download. So I did a factory reset and cleared everything out and started again. The same thing happens I get 5 or 6 and then the rest give my error saying not downloaded and not installed. So again I did a factory reset and tried again and came across the same prob. I got a few and then no more. I do not have a data plan yet. So I'm just using the wifi in my house. The ones that did not download i left them over night thinking they might get done by morning but no luck.

I was using simple free phone earlier which doesn't require data plan but after two weeks I bought samsung captivate, AT&T added $25 data plan. I got my phone from AT&T store where my friend works so he took my data plan out of the plan for now but he said they will find out and add into your plan again. Also, He said that they recognize by your IMEI number. My question is: Is there anyway I can change my IMEI number? I was thinking to use my simple free Nokia phone's IMEI number and use it for Samsung Captivate so AT&T thinks that I am using Nokia phone.

However neither Super Manager or ASTRO will allow me to uninstall the crap ware on my phone. Is there something I'm missing? I followed all the steps at XDA. So far I've tried to remove YPMobile, ATT Navigator, and ATT Maps. Any suggestions? I tried searching this on google and this forum but didn't come up with anything.

I keep seeing information on root however I am unclear how this relates to general android app development.
I understand that there is an emulator however when I get to actually test the software on a phone does that phone have to be a rooted device or is this only required if you wish to edit the core features of the os?
Finally are there are any development disadvantages to rooting the device such as that is no longer behaves like other android phones I may deploy too?
so on top of getting a free version of Quickoffice, we also now have Desk Home and Car Home for the captivate.The Desk home is much like the screen you see when the original Galaxy S was put in the Home station and car home looks very handy to see and works, of course, in both landscape and portrait mode.
View 18 Replies View Relatedi took the captivate on the road and used it as navigation. it worked great for the first 3 hours of the trip, reception or not. i was amazed until i received a notice that my phone internal app memory is low and i need to uninstall my apps. theres no way my memory should be full because i've checked it every few days and i've had 1.6 gb free. all of a sudden i've got 126mb. i'm guessing that Google maps had downloaded the maps in advanced and had just filled up the internal memory. unfortunately i have no clue how to clear the maps. until i can figure this out i cant receive emails, or texts or any messages because the memory is full. does someone know how to clear the old maps from the navigation app? i'm on the road so i havent been able to look at it extensively. i will research it more when i get a chance and post anything i find.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy captivate seems to keep freezing when doing things, most notably when I goto my downloads on the market, using Zedge to download a new wallpaper or using juiceplotter and just opening it, I get a black screen and it sits for a period of time approx a min or two...anyone else having these types of issues. I did do a factor reset this morning and also installed adw.launcher, but it still does it when using those programs and some others just can't remember which ones right off hand. thanks!!

I removed GoogleTalk which seems to be the route of the issue and now I can't seem to get it back. Also, ever since then I get the following error message upon booting: "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. dumpstate_app_201008021101_com_google_process_gapp s.log has been saved. Use *#9900# to copy out log." I'd rather not have to factory reset since I'm already rooted and was just getting things the way I liked them.

The OTA update for the Samsung Captivate (that was supposed to fix the GPS and a couple other bugs) isn't working on my [rooted] phone. I am able to download it, but it says that the process failed after my phone restarts. Luckily, it doesn't brick my phone like it has done to some other people's phones. From what I can gather, it doesn't fail because the phone is rooted but because some of the stock AT&T apps have been removed. Is this the problem? If so, is there any place I can download those stock apps (AT&T Navigator, Where, Mobile Banking, etc.) and reload them onto my phone?

Yes I really did do that. Now I cannot download. I cannot use my dialer. I think I deleted up to about C before I said uhoh I may be in trouble here. I rooted because I hate the phone. I liked my iphone better as it was quicker and had better email. Those are my main two things. Figured if I rooted I could get rid of the lag and set up a better email. Well here I am. I went to install the droid x Eye wallpaper - I transferred to my SD, then tried to install using Astro File Manager.. I get the popup stating that "For security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not sourced in the Android Market".
Is this because Astro is not using super user privileges?

Anyway quick question, since AT&T blocks off apps such as PDAnet and WiFi tethering apps of the market place, if I were to root, would I be able to get one of these apps? WiFi tethering is really important to me, I always used it on my old phone.
