When I plug my captivate into my computer it says I still have over 12 gb of memory left, but whenever I open the camera app or try to take a picture, it says "not enough memory" and it is impossible to take a picture.

After 3 years of being an iphone user ive decided to go with the captivate! Ive had it for a couple days and I am loving it! I dont know what happened though. I recorded one video that was about :30 seconds and took two pictures. Now when I open my camera I get a "warning low memory" message. I checked the sd and phone storage from the settings and its showing 1.68gb available? also when i go to gallery i cannot look at pictures or watch the video I recorded.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had the Captivate for a day and tonight it stated that I am out of memory. I thought I had 13 GB free on the internal card? I did download a lot of free apps last night but have 10gb free after music and photos. I have used the app killer to kill processes and then I can work again. What am I doing wrong. I downloaded 30 apps I believe. I thought I heard something only x amount for apps. If this is so, then if I install a micro sd card, then can apps go there?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI do not have or use and SD card...only the internal memory. When I'm not connected to a PC it recognizes this. All of my ringtones and notifications are present.
When I connect to a PC, though, the phone seems to want to only use the SD memory. I can't see my custom tones, all applications want to use SD memory, and apps only want to download new info to a non-existent SD card.
Is there a way to change this behavior? It's driving me nuts. When I'm connected to my PC and my phone rings...it uses a default tone. The first time it happened I had no idea what the sound was.
When I click on settings then wallpaper then gallery to change my wallpaper I get a message that says "not enough memory, delete some items." It also does this when I go straight to the gallery. I can't delete any items if I can't open the gallery. What can I do short of a factory reset.

I notice that when the phone is fresh off a reboot, it has somewhere in the neighboorhood 140-145mb or free memory, but after 10-12 hours of the phone being on it down to the 60s. At this point the UI lag is much more prevalent.I don't mind rebooting the phone once or twice a day, but I was wondering if there are any other alternatives

View 3 Replies View RelatedFrom reading some reviews, it looks like the camera on the Captivate kinda sucks in anything but great lighting. And, even in great lighting, the camcorder picks up way too much noise and has wind noise even when there is no wind. For you guys who got yours early, is that really the case? Did some of the early reviewers get bad units?
I'm really disappointed that the camera isn't top-of-the-line. It seems that Apple is the only company on the planet willing to not skip any corners with their hardware. Can't one, single Android maker just make a phone without the compromises? I love Android, but no one seems willing to step up and make some hardware worthy of it. Arg.. I'm so sick of that boring-ass, restrictive iOS, but I may have to get it anyway just because I'm not willing to carry around and Android phone and a Flip video camera at the same time.
So I plugged my new Captivate into my PC (Windows 7 64-bit) and the Captivate says it's connected, but the PC shows no signs of it being connected. I called SAmsung support, and from what I could understand of what the "tech" told me, this is a bug, and there's no way for a PC to recognize the Captivate unless there's a memory card installed. is this correct? Once a 16GB memory card is installed, do you have 64-GB of storage space you can use for music, etc?
This seems like a mammoth problem - do they have any timeframe for a fix for this? Or is the "tech" incorrect? I can't believe I just bought a brand new "Smartphone" to replace my old mobile phone and MP3 player, and I can't copy files to it. Help!
Should Samsung Kies be selected as the USB setting? That's the default.

If not: I strongly suggest we get a huge number of people to say they would be interested in buying a flashlight/camera flash add-on for the phone were someone to develop one. After we get a big enough number, we'll kindly forward it to several companies. I took my phone out last night for halloween, and was quite disappointed with the night quality. My camera stopped working at the worst time just when I needed to take some pics at a dinner today. Has anyone encountered a "Camera Failed" message after opening the Camera application? I tried rebooting many times (at least 5-6 times) hoping it was a software glitch, but would not go away. I was testing the GPS navigation (using Google Maps) and my battery drained from 60% to 30% in 20 mins!! Does using navigation or low battery charge screw up the camera?I was sure it was a HW defect thinking I had to return the unit, but when I got home, and plugged into wall charger for a few minutes, I found that camera started working again.

When I click that button to take a picture it's NEVER lined up like it was before. It's even more obvious if I use the crop feature.I can point at a logo and crop it perfectly and hold the phone absolutely still and press the button. When it shows the processing screen it looks like the camera shot is a couple inches below where it showed on the previous camera screen.

Phone gets to 15% (which is plenty of battery IMO) and I can't take a pic. Get in a car wreck and need to take some photos? oh no 15% battery because its the end of the day and you forgot your charger. Need to snap a pic of a deadly snake that just bit your dog to take with you to the vet's office? can't low battery. These 2 events happened to me (wasn't driving though). It hasn't moved elsewhere because I also noticed 2GB more space freed up on the internal SD card. Luckily I backed up 1.7GB+ of it recently. Just a warning for you guys to keep constant backup!

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I have had our captivates for just over a month and have loved the device despite the few minor issues that we've experienced with them. I check the boards daily to see all the latest, but didn't see anything on one issue that i am experiencing.
When using the camera to take pictures of my infant son, if i try to take a picture, then another and sometimes a third (infants are hard to keep still for a picture) without closing the camera application, a few times i haven't been able to press the take picture button and have noticed a "lock" icon on the camera screen, then can not exit the camera app at all and need to power off the phone, then bring it back up. Does anyone know what causes this and if it's something that i am doing unknowingly when bobbling the phone trying to positing him for the picture?
Has anyone else noticed that when there you have a low battery, I guess under 10%, the phone will not let you open then camera? I've tried to open the camera, and a message pops us saying "Low Battery" and then the application automatically closes itself. Any way around this?
