One of the selling points of the Epic 4G is the 5mp Camera it has.. Gizmodo rated better than the iphone's and even though, it doesn't have 8 mp (Evo), its 5 mp picture has a higher quality than Evo's.
Please post your pictures and if you can use some of the photo apps available ( Fxcamera, Retro cam, Camera Illusion, Vignette, Photostitch), it will give us a better idea of how good the camera and apps are.
When in the camera and you hit the play button to review pictures, all pictures on the phone come up instead of just the ones i've taken with my camera. Is there a setting to change for this? Do i need to move my photos to a specific folder to avoid this? Right now i have all my pictures in the "media" folder. The camera pictures are in the DCIM folder. So how can this be changed?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI spent some time today doing controlled tests with the camera on the Droid and these tests confirmed my thoughts about the Droid camera: It will take decent pictures, but not in autofocus mode. I've posted a link to the pictures in Picasa **here**.The EXIF data shows the following: f.2.8 is the only aperture used. High shutter speeds in hazy sunlight will enable you to steady the camera. Most of the shutter speeds topped out ~ 1/1400 of a second. The other variable is ISO and in bright sunlight it's set very low, usually around ISO 50. This is a good thing since it allows you to have a high shutter speed since these tiny cameras are inherently hard to steady. I cannot account for the fixed aperture of f.2.8. In a larger camera such a wide setting would normally assure a rather soft picture. Here it seems to work.
The sample pictures I posted were duplicated many times in my tests and the results were consistent. As you look at the samples you will first see a wide picture.I then opened the picture in Photoshop and took it to 100% (all pixels displayed) then I cropped an area of interest. The results show the fixed focus working fine (with not as much shutter lag since it's not hunting for focus) and the autofocus mode completely broken. I think this shows a definite software issue. The hardware seems fine, although the shadow areas are quite noisy, the result of a tiny sensor and its overflowing photosites. So go ahead and take pictures outdoors and you'll probably get decent pictures set at infinity, even when you are taking pictures of friends in groups. I'll make a guess that this software bug is a result of a code screwup at the very last minute. If we can be patient I suspect the fix will be a simple one.
I don't know if this has already been posted here, I couldn't find it if it has, but here is a cool video sample recorded on an Epic 4G in 720P.
It might not wow everyone, but it looks better than the samples taken by Engadget. The audio pickup is awesome! And the video is so smooth I didn't know the video was being taken by the Epic until he mentioned it.
I'm really looking forward to this device! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsUUi0MTrb4
Here are a few shots taken using both my Epic 4G and my Evo 4G.
1) I'm not a photographer
2) I used Vignette on the Evo 4G
3) I used both the Stock camera and Vignette for the Epic
4) The Epic pictures were taken while there was more sunlight out, the Evo was more in optimum lighting.
5) Neither has been retouched in any way
I also have 720p video shot with both phones, just don't know where to upload it yet.
I am triing something on my EVO to see if the picture and video quality can match the epics. But I need someone who has rooted there epic to send me the epic's orginal camera apk file to see if it works on the EVO.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to decide between an EVO and an Epic, and one of the key features I am concerned about is the camera. After spening some time on the Evo forums, I have a pretty good idea what the camera will do. I know the Epic has fewer megapixels, but that doesn't mean worse pictures. Anyone have any good info on what the Epic's camera will be like? Ideally some sort of comparison of something besides megapixels would be awesome!
View 4 Replies View Relatedi mean the single shot mode takes good pictures. but why do the limit the size when i choose anything esle? i hate that. think they will make a update which will make you able to take pictures in all settings with all 5 mexapixels?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I have just traded in my HTC Evo for the Epic 4G. So far its been pretty nice to me but then again I have only had it for a couple hours. One thing about my phones is that I use WiFi more a lot. When I seem to have wifi on and someone sends me a picture through text, it wont download the picture unless I turn WiFi off. Is there anything I can do to change this? Is this happeneing to everybody? The EVO you could have wifi on and it would still download pictures and what not. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and sorry if there was another thread about this, I searched and couldnt find.
View 7 Replies View RelatedA quick couple of questions about facebook on th Epic. First, how come all the pictures I upload to facebook are sideways? No matter what I do they upload sideways? Its slightly annoying. Second, is there a way to upload more than one at a time?
View 8 Replies View Relatedis there not a way to upload a batch of pictures to facebook? I'm in the gallery, and I can make it split out the pictures by date; fun...so I click that grouping of pictures and want to upload it to facebook...share only allows to bluetooth, picasa, email, gmail or messaging...no facebook...And if I try to go through facebook app to do it, I can only upload one photo at a time. there has to be a way to upload more than one photo at a time...
View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone notice that when you send a picture via email or facebook it freezes your phone?! I notice that every time I send a picture via email or Facebook it freezes the phone for about 30 seconds or so and won't let me do anything.
View 2 Replies View RelatedCan't remember if this was working before I had to do the factory reset on my Epic, but I think it was. I have my Facebook account synced and it shows the pictures under my call log, contacts, dialer, but does not show the contact pictures in my text messages? Anyone know how to fix this, it really annoys me seeing a bunch of empty picture slots when looking at my text message list.
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust received my Epic via the little Brown truck yesterday, and I'm loving most everything about it so far.One niggle is the gap between the 'top' half of the phone (the sliding part with the screen) and the chrome trim ring is variable. While resting camera down on a table, the gap is consistent all around. but if you were to hold the device by the 'top' part, the gap along the side where the volume buttons are grows to almost the thickness of a quarter ($0.25). It's almost if it's wobbling on the slider mechanism, when the slider is CLOSED (unlike when open, as in other posts).Another niggle is that the button to the left of the HOME button is not equally lit across the image (looks like a page). It's almost as if the image fades from left (bright) to right (dim). Finally, the camera is completely crap. Even in a well lit office environment, the image that is centered and 'focused' before the shutter falls comes out blurred and ugly.Strangely, the background is crystal clear.Flash or not makes no difference.Otherwise, all my pixels are lively, the function keys on the bottom are all equally responsive to the touch I would expect to make them work, and voice quality is great. So is my experience unique, like the device is a lemon, or is it consistent with this gizmo?
View 3 Replies View Relatedcan anyone else upload video/pictures from the gallery to youtube/picasa successfully? mine keeps saying "failed to retrieve account information" no matter what service I try to upload to.
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust noticed today all pictures in my /Camera/DCIM directory are gone, a whole 2GB+ worth. Has this happened to anyone? It hasn't moved elsewhere because I also noticed 2GB more space freed up on the internal SD card. Luckily I backed up 1.7GB+ of it recently. Just a warning for you guys to keep constant backup!
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe only thing that I have been seeing is that when I take a picture from my phone and save it to my background, I have to crop it and then it gets a little zoomed in and the resolution is not the same as it was. There a way I can download or photoshop my images so its the right resolution for my captivate?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI really love the Vibrants camera for outdoor pictures. However, I'm becoming increasingly frustrated at the picture quality in indoor settings, especially in low light. There are sooo many ways to tinker the settings!!! What makes for the best quality pictures in indoor, low-light settings?
I always use my cell phone camera as my primary camera. I love my Vibrant, but the camera quality is really making me consider going to a different device.
Are you able to use the front facing camera to take a pic of yourself? I'm not an ego maniac, lol, just an idiot I guess. One more question, is there any other way using the stock programs to assign a picture to a contact without having to use the phone's own camera? i.e. linking a pic to contact from facebook or from the sd card?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIf you want to zoom in and zoom out when in camera mode, just use your volume rocker up/down to zoom in and out.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI kept having problems accidentally backing out of the camera mode when taking pictures, then I discovered that if you hit the power button on the phone it will lock the camera "open" so that you can't accidentally hit another button while holding the phone to take a picture. Just hit the power button again to unlock it.
