Nexus :: One Click Rooting
Aug 10, 2010
Android Guys are reporting that the "one click" root program is no avaliable for the N1 (Universal One-Click Root Now Available for Nexus One | AndroidGuys). Can anyone confirm that this does indeed work without unlocking your boot-loader? My N1 is currently un-rooted and I think I am finally ready to root this phone. My biggest concern has always been that I don't have a good understanding of the root process and I didn't want to mess anything up. If this program really is "one click" then it seems like it's a no brainer. If I do go through with this "one click" root can I just follow the regular instructions to install cyanogen (I would like the ability to record HD)? Also do I still need to revert to an earlier build (running FRF91) to install cyanogen?

I used the the Lagfix app to "root" my captivate. so i'm wondering what's the difference between doing it this way vs. doing it through a computer or some other way? Also, how can install non-market apps now? Well I know how, but what's the easiest way to do it? is the an app market I can get?

Download and use a program called Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine. It's a one click solution, works amazingly on the Captivate and requires no hassle. The program claims to work on un-rooted phones (though mine is rooted).My girlfriend's Captivate is not rooted though so I will test this out on her phone as well to confirm it. Check it out though. I've already gone to town with this and it works great.

just wanted to know what is the main reason behind rooting the nexus one? it seems like there's already an app for tethering so rooting is not really needed for that.

I am going to wait to root for a bit but ultimately it is something I think I want to do. I understand how to do it and the risks involved, but what I am not really clear on are the benefits. I know it lets me run certain applications that require root access. But which ones are really that great? I don't need to overclock it. Its fast enough and battery life is bad enough. I don't need tethering although access point capabilities might be cool to show off. So what kind of programs / capabilities would I really be seeing?

Theres not much I'm missing from stock android but wi-fi tethering would be really nice. Plus I would like to still be able to receive OTA updates that google offers. Can you root the phone and keep the stock ROM? If yes will the stock ROM still update? Is there a wi-fi tether app that doesn't require something like Cyanogen?

I am considering rooting my phone because I like to tinker with things and learn new things, just for fun.Aside from learning new things, I would like to also install apps that require root permission like greenify... I'd also like to learn enough to remove crapware from my wife's gs3, but not until I learn how to do it with a level of confidence on my own phone.
I have a Nexus 4 right now, and a 5 on the way. I also have a 2012 nexus 7.Generally, how easy is to learn about rooting on a nexus? Good phone or tablet to start with? Easy to recover from mistakes?

I've just rooted my device (Nexus 5) with Chainfire auto setup and I've downloaded Superuser by Clockworkmod. When I opened it up, it showed a message saying that I needed to update the SU binary, I went back to the Play Store, I read the description and I found a link, that allows me to install it from a recovery files. Once I downloaded it I opened the app again using the recovery files, Android crashed and rebooted itself, but during the boot it showed a dead android image (the one with the red triangle). I've turned off my device (Nexus 5) and then I've reboot it, now all works fine. I'm terribly scared, what the hell happened? It's my fault or Superuser just crashed?

I want to root my Google Nexus 7 3G (UK version) so that I can install Titanium Backup Pro. I also want to be able to revert back to the original non-rooted version of Android in case I have to return it under warranty at some point in the future. So, is it possible to simply root it without installing ROMs/images etc?

[How-To] ROOT Your Nexus One without Unlocking the Bootloader. ALL ROM'S! - Google Nexus One Owners | Google Groups. Ok, I posted this on my Google Groups page where I was able to Tidy it up and update it easier. Sources credited and applied. I did this on 2 N1's. No wiping, no data loss, both T-Mobile with FRF91. No data loss, no wipes, no nothing. The only reason you will have to wipe or anything is if you want to put a custom recovery on it and a custom ROM.

I'm contemplating if I should root my Nexus One mainly because I really want that extra performance boost. However I have a few questions. First will I still receive the OTA updates Google pushes out? And secondly, will I be able to revert back to stock android OS after rooting. And lastly, do all the Google apps work (mainly the Google GPS Navigation) without problems?

I recently got the new Nexus 7 running 4.3 and wondering if there's a way to block ads without rooting (I mean ads from webpages while using your browser). I had rooted my phone a long time ago and remember there was a great adblock that did the job perfectly. But I don't want to root the Nexus 7.
On my laptop computer, I use AdBlock as an extension the the Chrome browser. But extensions don't exist on the Chrome Android version (at least not that I'm aware of).
I did fine an ad blocker (forgot the name) that used a proxy, but it was a pain as you had to manually add the proxy to every wifi connection and it also wrecked havock on some websites (e.g. couldn't log into e-bay).
These ads really slow down web surfing, specially when your browser is in "Desktop" user agent mode.

I want to install Cyanogenmod and root my Nexus 7 2013, but I don't know what I should do to backup.
I previously tried to root and install CM on my Motorola Atrix HD on AT&T and successfully rooted it, unlocked the bootloader, and installed Clockwork Mod. I made sure to click backup and proceeded to delete the version of Android on the device and install Cyanogenmod. Cyanogenmod did not successfully install and I wanted to restore my device back to it the backup I made. It said that it did it successfully, but the device gets stuck on the AT&T logo when booting up and doesn't go past that.
I don't want to have to go through the same trouble with my Nexus 7 not being able to restore back to a backup in case something goes wrong. I'm using the Nexus Root Toolkit on my PC and will probably use the Cyanogenmod installer for installing CM11 (if there are any drawbacks to using the installer). What should I use to backup my device and how would I restore it back to stock if something goes wrong? And if I have a bricked device, how can I flash it back to stock?

I rooted my Nexus 7(Wifi only), v4.2.1, with the Nexus 7 Toolkit v4.0.0. Since then the Equalizer presets from google's music app is gone and I cannot adjust the bass boost or 3D effect.
Update: I just restored back to stock and that solved the problem. May try to root again in future.

when I click on one item in the ListView that item's background changes to light gray, but when I continue to scroll through the list every 4th item has the background changed to light gray even though those other items have not been clicked. How do I make only the item I clicked be effected by the click?
ListView lv = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.resultsList);
lv.setAdapter(new ArrayAdapter(this, R.layout.resultitem, (String[])labelList.toArray(new String[labelList.size()])));
lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView parent, View view, int position, long id) {
TextView tv = (TextView)view.findViewById(R.id.result);
tv.setBackgroundColor(Color.LTGRAY);
tv.setTextColor(Color.BLACK);

I have a ListView in my Activity. I am trying to catch both a click and a long click (which should bring up a context menu).
ListView lv = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.MyListView); ... lv.setOnItemClickListener(this); lv.setOnCreateContextMenuListener(this); ...
I notice that if I have both the click and long click listeners up, I won't ever get the long click listener (i.e. the context menu). If I remove the setOnItemClickListener() call, i get a call into
@Override public void onCreateContextMenu(ContextMenu menu, View v, ContextMenu.ContextMenuInfo menuInfo) {
