Motorola : Will Droid UI Ever Be As Smooth As Sense / Rooting Required?

This is more a question for those who have experience with rooted phones. For me, the biggest feature of Sense UI is how smooth it is in terms of transitions between screens, scrolling within things such as the Apps menu, etc. (couldn't really care less about the social networking integration).
Now, there are some homescreen apps out right now that are definitely (in my opinion) better in these regards than the standard Android UI, but they all still fall short of what Sense (or Rachael or even MotoBlur) has achieved.
Is this same smoothness, though, something that can be achieved if/when (since it really is just a matter of time) people figure out how to root the Droid and make custom ROMs?

This is my first post on this forum. I am on the fence about getting the HTC Droid Incredible and the Droid X. It would be a lot more palatable if I there was an HTC Sense rom I could flash onto the Droid X. Is there anything of this sort in development or around?

My girlfriend just got an HTC hero and I got a chance to play with it.
Even though it's specs are obviously less than those of the Droid it worked so much smoother, and I just don't understand why. Does android 2.0 just need to go through some growing pains?

I just got the Droid 2 after using Blackberry phones for many years. I had the Blackberry Curve, and then went to the Blackberry Tour. For other users that have switched from a Blackberry, what sorts of things should I be aware of that might have been something I took for granted on a Blackberry that might require more of a work around on a Droid? I'm trying to get fully integrated to google apps for simplicities sake. I know there's the Push email thing, but I'm hoping just using everything through GMail will help that problem. I transferred my calender to Gmail from my Blackberry by exporting it to a Yahoo in syncing, and then going to Yahoo and exporting it to Outlook CSV, and then importing the CSV to Google.

Rooted tonight, and playing with ROM Manager and Bugless Beast V0.4 (Froyo). I'm wondering when installing a ROM using RM, it asks if you want to do a backup and wipe before installing. I have already done a backup and don't really want to start over with a completely blank slate once Bugless is installed. Is it possible to just install a ROM without doing a wipe first? If possible, should it still be avoided to prevent issues? Basically just wondering if a full wipe is needed/recommended before installing a new ROM.

All this talk about different rooting methods and how some are unreliable makes me want to learn exactly what's required.
So far from looking at different exploits and methods to root different phones, the most simplest to understand is Peter Alfonso's Galaxy S rooting method posted today it seems all you need is to find a way on your device to install the following:
/system/bin/su (is this included in stock and replaced or just doesn't exist in stock systems?)
/system/app/Superuser.apk (it seems the Android OS has a "super user access" intent that this listens for -- so when apps try to access su this picks app it up?)

To somewhere else other then at /sdcard? If so, where can I put them so everything till works?

Yahoo Mail. Looks pretty but wont download attachments and has no way to log out so there's no way to secure the account. Worst of all it screwed up the on-off switch and incoming calls wouldn't turn the phone on.(how I don't know) and required a hard reset to fix.

I am wondering what actually happens with all the apps and widgets that come with Sense UI. I assume none of them will work anymore once the Desire is rooted? Or will they stay and still be useable? Can you download them somewhere again from HTC for example and install on a rooted device?
I heard of custom Roms that will let you root the device and still use some HTC apps. Is that correct or is there no such thing?
Finally, a question that might be a bit of speculation currently. With HTC introducing the new www.htcsense.com website with features such as SMS backup for life, contact editing, app shop, etc.... some of the stuff like the SMS backup sound very interesting but now I am wondering if these features will be available for rooted devices. Anybody has any ideas about that?
Would be kind of unfair if rooted devices could not use this HTC service.

Is it possible to get the black status bar similar to the Sense UI bar without rooting the phone? I don't want to root my phone b/c I love everything else but I want that status bar really bad. Any ideas?

Is this normal?
Often at night before I go to bed I'll plug it in to the charger, and the 'charging' icon doesn't appear. I left it overnight, and sure enough, it didn't charge.
I powered off, rebooted, and it is now showing the 'charging' icon. This has happened before.

Is it wrong to assume that once the HTC Incredible is available it won't be long til a stable version of Sense 2.1 is ready? I remember reading that an alpha build for Sense was made but I haven't heard of any updates since.

I love my droid x but coming from an incredible Im a die hard T9 texter. I have tried better keyboard and everything else and handcent but they all dont have great T9 keyboards. I heard I can get the APK with the sense UI T9 keyboard on my X.
This would make my phone almost perfect anyone can help me? I would gladly pay $20 for such a thing.

I know i may be jumping the gun and it kinda has been done but since the incredible will be a CDMA phone, do you guys think that the Sense UI will work better with the Droid? I know on the Sense UI port from the Desire the problem was the radio was not matching up correctly.

After enjoying a good Sunday meal, I saw this posting on AndroidCentral.com. They show a Moto Droid running a rom from the HTC Desire. Sense UI has been ported to the Moto Droid. I know some people could care less. But for me, I graduated to the Moto Droid from the HTC Eris and I really like Sense UI. I got a sprint HTC Hero but am very disappointed by it's speed (And I run only two widgets - bookmarks and weather!) - when I press the menu button the phone can take up to 3 seconds for the pulldown login screen to show up - super annoying. I'm loving Droid for the tech specs...but I love the sense UI is it possible to put the sense UI on the droid in theory? I have a few more days to return the hero and might if I could get this to work.

I read that someone was looking to obtain the HTC Sense unlock screen. This can be had through widgetlocker lockscreen. hope this helps at least 1 person.

So human cyborg has set things going again. Check his twitter page for a 2.1 sense that boots on droid -- messing with it now. Main (logcat) issues seems to be some misfit images (fairly simple), to checking for EVDO instead of CDMA, which may be anything from a simple look at a Eris rom to something more.
Feel free to check it out if you want a peak of what sense 2.1 looks like. Not a day to day rom but those of you who are bored/like to tinker.
