Motorola Droid :: Store Frequently Used Phrases?
Feb 10, 2010
Though I've migrated happily from a verizon Palm 700WX (WM) to a Droid, there is a composition feature I miss called 'my text', which gave you ten registers where you could store frequently used phrases 'On my way', '@giantstupidURL.com', '[large foreign phone #]', etc. When composing a message any of these phrases could be inserted with just a few keystrokes.
I have not been able to discover anything similar on the Droid. Did I miss it, or are there apps for email / text that have this and other enhancements?

I'm the proud owner of a month old Droid 2, but the damn thing keeps freezing or locks up completely when I play my music on it - sometimes it even restarts on its own. It doesn't matter if I'm playing my own MP3's or Pandora. While at work this happens maybe 3 to 5 times a day (docked to a desk/home charger from Verizon) and it's really frustrating. I noticed this started happening once my phone updated to 2.2.20 a few weeks ago. Just this past weekend I took it to my local Verizon dealer. They said they updated the PRL and this often corrects the problem. I got the phone home and it locked up immediately. I've restarted repeatedly, removed the SD card and battery but still no change. Any suggestions? This will be my fourth replacement if I need to take it back and have it replaced.

In your contacts, under favorites is the Frequently Called list. Mine is displaying numbers I have never called. Anyone else?

I was wondering what kind of knowledge you guys have about the LI-ION batteries in this badboy. I see a lot of conflicting things online, and from what I gather...you shouldn't be charging overnight, and you shouldn't frequently do full cycle discharge. So, what is the best practice? Charging semi frequently and shutting it off at night? I dislike this because I use the phone as an alarm, and don't want to wake up with the battery starting at 90 for the day.
Also, if you're not supposed to charge overnight (which i've done with many other phones and they were fine), then if I do get the media dock...it would charge overnight every night as my alarm clock.... isn't that bad for the battery? I'm just concerned about ruining my battery, what have you guys heard, and what effects have you seen?

As a former iPhone user (ugh), I used to frequent sites like appshopper.com to browse new releases of free apps.I found it much easier than doing it on the phone itself (plus, it was a good time-killer during conference calls, etc.)Are there similar online "app stores" for Droid apps out there? A Google search was unsuccessful.

I've heard about the 256 mb internal storage, and it sounds like it may limit... how many apps do you all have, and what are the sizes? has anybody gone over the limit yet? What are they doing to fix this problem, or is it not meant to be fixed? These are very important questions, so I can decide whether to invest in the Droid or something else (probably still android os but not sure if it's an android problem)

I got my Droid finally on Saturday and I've been putzing around a lot. One nice surprise was that after getting the Mabilo ringtone app (where all the tones are free etc) I found a ton of the ones I've used in the past and had set up to copy over from my computer.
Now I know Mabilo keeps its own ringtone directory, and I copied over my own folder "Ringtones" to the root directory.
I have Astro file manager installed. Can you use this to move ringtones from certain folders to others or do I have to do this manually via mounting the MicroSD? I had Quark Ringtone app installed for a bit and there's only one tone in there I want before I uninstall can you move files via Astro?

I am patiently waiting for my new droidx. I dont know if this is self explanatory when i receive the x and play around with it for a while but how do you store apps on the SD card? I read that you can only use the memory that comes with the phone but not sure if that was wrong.

I got the extended battery from the verizon store it came with a new back cover. My phones battery is draining a lot slower today. I also bought a new charger from asset for blackberrys because I lost mine and when it's conntected to that charger the touchscreen gets semi unresponsive. Should I return the charger? Also for the other people who have this battery how do you like it?

I'm thinking of giving VZW another try and I'm wondering what type of in-store availability the Droid X has? Is it sold out pretty much everywhere like the EVO? I'm not an on-line buyer so in-store is the way I go!! I know Best Buy has a waiting list. Just wondering what type of supply VZW corporate stores are experiencing.

Has anyone been successful in getting a replacement done in store? With the inventory of Droid X being very limited, would stores be unwilling to use their available units as replacement units? I'm sure they would much rather sell it along with a new contract/upgrade.

Anyone know of a good way to store private documents on the phone SD? I'm considering moving some of my documents to my phone SD....this is stuff that could potentially lead to ID theft if I ever lose my phone So I was wondering if there's any way to password protect / encrypt folders on the SD card. If I lost my phone.....I don't want a thief accessing documents in that folder. So it would have to work against him reading files off a card reader on a regular computer as well While we're at it.....between Mobile defense, Lookout and Wave secure, can any of them wipe the SD card remotely?

This has been bugging me but I think it's just the way it is. In the DX we have 8gb of internal memory with an additional external 16gb (as shipped) on the SD card. I can store my music, pictures, etc. on the SD card but cannot access the internal 8gb. Besides storing apps, what good is that internal memory? Is there a way to store files on it. I read in the Applications and Games forums that other phone owners complain that some apps are too big to keep on their internal memory, but it seems to me that with the DX, this is no issue because we can't use that memory anyway. Why would a DX owner care about storing apps in the SD card (with 2.2) when we have tons of unused memory internally? Is there a way to store files on the internal memory which I'm missing?

Seems too easy that best buy will give you an instant rebate on droid if you buy it through them. I'm on a family plan and adding a new line to it to get for 199. Verizon store VS Best Buy mobile?? Any difference? I don't think the droid phone will sell out. The Verizon store rep told me I could prob come in anytime in the day and get one, they have over 100 in stock. And the Best Buy rep told me the same thing, they have 60 coming in and only about 15 are claimed for preorders. (same with other bestbuys in the area)

I'm looking at buying the X tomorrow at a Corporate Store, rather then a Wireless Zone store. The main issue right now is, my dad does not want to spend $600 for 2 phones (YES I KNOW THERE IS A REBATE), so technically it would only be $400, but the rebate would take at least 2 weeks. One of my friends told me that if you pay for the phone at a Corporate Store, rather than a store like Verizon Wireless Zones is that you get an Instant Rebate. If its possible to get an instant rebate at a Corporate Store, this would be 10x easier on my dad, knowing he will get an instant rebate, and it would only be $400 give or take right up front.

I am on my second defective Droid. My newest one has rebooted more than 10 times in less then 24 hours. I am going to take it back for a replacement again, however I am wondering if Bestbuy got a bad batch and maybe I should get a replacement from the Verizon store. Does anyone know if Verizon will replace it even though I got it at Bestbuy?

I am in a verizon store. There is a droidx and droid incredible right next to each other. I installed speedtest.net app on both. Used advanced task killer to kill background apps on both..then ran speedtest.net app.Ran the test ten times on each phone to get a good average. Droidx gets 0.50 mbps max...incredible gets 2.0 mbps nearly on every one of the ten runs I did. Why? Is this a known issue? I wanna get the phone..its in stock..but this speedtest issue is bugging me. Any explanations? Also the droid x is getting only 2 bars..the inc has full signal. Been here about an hour, and no change in signal or speedtest.live update.. I am going to drive to another verizon store right now and repeat the tests on new phones..I will run with and withouth task killer. Ill update once I get to the new verizon store.

Is there a way on the HTC Hero to create a shortcut (icon?) that will launch an app that sends a pre-defined string (10 char) to 46645 (Google) via SMS? I do this sometimes multiple times a day and it sure would be handy to be able to do it via a single click to a shortcut.

I'm looking for an app that I can configure with a list of words which I can later select via press and hold and be able to select which word I want to paste/type. I was hoping one of the add-on keyboard or clipboard apps would provide this feature but I haven't had any luck finding anything. I have a big email address and password and would love to keep them in a permanent clipboard of some sort. The clipboard apps I've tried kind of fit the bill but switching to that app for the purposes of making a selection disrupted the flow of things. Press and hold would be best. Can anyone suggest an app that would accomplish this? I've been also looking for a way to remove the stupid arrow keys at the bottom of my HTC Evo's keyboard. I tried better keyboard from the market but I'm having issues getting used to those keys. The letters seem smaller or something.

Now I would like to put the background as black, and the initial text color as white. After every 1 sec, each word in the line should be painted with yellow color.

I've been using handcent for almost a year now. 2 weeks ago, right at it, one of my most frequently used contacts for texting disappeared from handcent. The text comes through on board messenger but wont cross over to handcent. Out of 90 or so contacts this is the only contact with that issue. The contact is an AT&T contact, all other AT&T contacts work fine. I've removed the contact, reset the phone with battery removed, made new contact and still the same. It's almost like the number/name is cursed. This "cursed contact" comes through handcent on my wife's phone just fine.
