Jan 27, 2010When I used to have a G1 I remember having an app that automatically updated the hosts file to block ads. I can't find it anywhere, does anyone remember the app?

View 10 Replies View RelatedAnyone know how to block ads in the browser? It'd be nice if something would work. Also, what plugins are available for the browser so far?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI know you can do it online, but that lapses in a few months, blacklist with Handcent just hides the message.
Is there a way in the OS to really block a caller/sms. I already have sent to VM but what I'd really like is a big go fuck yourself to be sent back to them.
Google Voice would work if it would actually control my other number and not just theirs.
Any ideas/suggests?
using Beautiful Widgets for the clock/weather widget. I am using one of the skins from the available to download section of the config. Airport One or something like that. When I turned on Home++ it took that skin off, and its not even showing in my downloaded skins. Nor is it available to re-download. This is the case with a few others I downloaded as well. When I uninstalled Home++ they all magically appeared.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had to .sbf last night back to 2.1, rooted with Universal Androot and then used rom manger to update to 2.2 which is 2.3.9 then when I try to restore a backup or apply any zips from sd card during clockwork Mod recovery I get the following error.
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.5
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0pt1)
(Device or resource busy)
Can't mount /sdcard
Does anyone have any solutions to help me out? I am not sure if it was something to do with the root method I used or something else I need to do to get it going.
The first time I rooted I installed the first leak 2.2 myself and then rooted with adb, but I no longer have the leak 2.2 file so I rooted 2.1 first then installed 2.2 like I said earlier through rom manager.
I read that official 2.1 (from another Droid forum) will be blocking root access. I too thought that this is kind of odd, so I thought to ask.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI'm using the free Advanced Task Killer app save as much battery life as possible.
After I "kill" all the apps, the same programs tend to run all over again (Alarm Clock, Corporate Calender, Settings, etc). How do I block programs that I don't use but tend to open continually?
Every where I go with the navigation on my droid it is off by a block. The street view is real obvious of that. Anyone else have that problem?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI've read a few posts in other forums where 2.2 doesn't allow you to kill apps with a Task Killer, can anyone confirm or deny? Please no task killer arguments! Just curious whether it still allows you to use one.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm starting to get junk mail sent directly to my phone through my hotmail email account. I have added both the sender and the senders domain to the list using Windows Live Mail Beta. These emails are still getting through to my Droid X. First, there are no option on the phone to block emails is there? And secondly, there is not an option to add emails to any junk folder on the phone either that I have found. Anyone else having this problem? I've tried both adding my email accounts through Corporate (for hotmail/msn) and the email option on the phone.

Anyone here try this app? a Call Filter - block unwanted phone calls I want to block those annoying repeat marketing calls for things like extended car warranties, and what not.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm considering writing an internet filter app for Android which would allow parents to block objectionable web sites on their children's phones. I'm assuming this would also be useful on GoogleTV when it comes out. How would I even start? Is it possible to block access to specific sites without requiring the user to root their phone?
I'm guessing I could do it with iptables, but that would probably require a rooted phone.
Edit:
If the phone was rooted, how would one go about doing this? Are ip tables the way to go or is there a better way?

Has anyone found any good call blockers to prevent unknown callers from junking up your voicemail? I've heard about GBlock and aFirewall but they're not complete solutions. looking for something that shuts down an unwanted caller with NO voicemail option. Even better - an app where you put in the numbers you wish to accept and have anyone else who calls in get rejected instead of having to enter numbers you want to have blocked.

I saw a few market apps that claim to block sms/calls. Reviews on all were mixed good & bad. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with any or had a suggestion for an app to stop this madness.
Also curious if anyone knows how they actually block. Basically I want to know if I just don't get a notification, or it just doesn't show in messaging app/handcent, or if it really gets blocked - as in not actually sent to me and does not charge me for a text.
If all they do is stop the notification I can just use settings profiles for that. But I'd really like to not have them be charged to me. I am on a 250/month plan and might risk going over at the rate they're being sent.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use my EVO 4G for business and my number is posted on my business website. Unfortunately, I get numerous calls, often with recorded messages, from people trying to sell me something for which I am not interested. On my old, non-HTC phone I would just add the unwanted incoming number to a contact called ?Delete? and set the ring for that contact to silent. The EVO 4G does not permit dozens of numbers to be added to a single number. If anyone has a better solution to tag a number as unwanted and not ring I would love to hear about it.
