I am about to get the Droid and the Eris through Verizon (get one free deal), the Eris is for my wife, separate line joint account. My question is we are coming from the iphone where our calenders and contacts and all were always synced up. Will I have a problem doing this with these two phones or would it be easier if they were both Droids or both Eris?

I have the OTA update and have had several issues that through this forum I've tried to correct but it just keeps getting more frustrating every day. I was on vacation and was using it as an alarm only to find that if you don't turn off and on the alarm every day, it won't work (and I had it set to S-S). I miss calls all the time, all over town, going straight to voice mail. The dialer lags all the time (except when I accidentally hit the wrong number, then it works like a champ ). My voice mail programed pin hesitates every time, not like the lighting speed it used to run on 1.5; so much so I'm not sure it will go through sometimes. My email notifications stutter or doubles for the same email. The phone gets very warm when I haven't used it for several hours and within a good cell signal area so I know it shouldn't be working to get a signal.
With all that said, I really liked the phone on 1.5 and would kill to get it back to that but I don't see that as a viable solution.I stopped into one of the local stores and told the guy I wanted my phone to work like it used to.He said I needed to take it to one of the tech support shops and be prepared to leave it for several hours for it to be checked.So here is my question (finally).I want to take it to the shop in case it is a bad handset but I need to clear the phone of sensitive information first.I get all my work emails on my phone, many of them sensitive information, along with web site access to my company's internal system. I need to make sure that all that information is cleared from the phone before I take it in.
I talked with a VZW tech just a few minutes ago.I described her the silent bug problem on 2.1.She said she is a Droid user and her daughter has an Eris.She said she had frequent freezeup on her Droid and now she reccomends to do one reboot every day. She says she had not had a problem since she has been doing this.She made a mark on my file about my complain and recommended to try the once-a-day reboot for a week. If the problem persists, the store will issue a new phone.I will try this reboot thing each night, will see how it goes.I am a bit worried about the exchange they perhaps would give me a refurb, and what is the guarantie that I won't end up with the same problem.

After 3 bad Devours, Verizon shipped me a Droid as a replacement. I received it today and there isn't a battery. I went to the local Verizon store and Best Buy. None of them have batteries and said I would have to order it. Is there any where else that I could purchase a battery? I don't want to wait until Monday afternoon to use my phone.

I had a few questions that I saw on here, but I'm not 100% about.
1. Does this come with a cable to connect to the PC? The Eris's charger was both a charger and a cord to connect to the PC, really like this ability.
2. Does Droid have the ability to run Froyo WITHOUT rooting?
3. Can you comment on some things I may find annoying or cumbersome with the phone?
4. Can you comment on the benefits I will get?
First, I've read all the "I switched from Eris to Droid" posts. Found them to be informative, most a bit dated.
Second, I've had my Eris since the first day it came out. I went to the store expecting to buy a Droid on the first day it came out. It happened to be right when I needed a new phone, I didn't have an existing phone or plan, so I was free do to what I wanted. Didn't know anything about an Eris. Went to the store and was unimpressed by the Droid's keyboard. Plus it felt blocky and I didn't like that the sliding keyboard felt like it was going to slide out all the time. Picked up the Eris and between the size, the form factor, and Sense UI's 7 screens and widgets I decided that the $100 savings was money well pocketed. It didn't take me long to start getting annoyed with it though. The battery life, the lag and other issues mounted. Then Sense kept re-booting, as did the phone. So I went back to the store inside my 30 days. I got a new one and an "extension" on my return ability.
The second phone was great...for a while. Lag returned, in a big way. In the meantime, the Droid got 2.0.1 and is getting 2.1 soon. The Eris should have 2.1 by the end of the month, but I'm not convinced it will solve my issues. I was in the mall again today and spent another 15 minutes or so with the Droid. The screen has always impressed me, but the speed just blows me away. I hate the fact that it takes Handcent 10 seconds to load, the fact that the landscape keyboard is slow in loading, then laggy. That the menus, etc. are just slow. Slow, slow, slow, and did I mention, slow? I've tweaked this phone 9 ways from Sunday, have tried all manner of task killers, task panel, startup manager, etc. I've cleared cache, re-booted, etc. This phone, in current form, lags. Now 2.1 is coming with Sense, and that may help. But the Droid's screen....oh, that screen.So here are my questions:
1) I hated the keyboard, and after using the phone for about an hour and a half in total, still don't like it. I know you don't have to use it, are there those that liked it better with time?
2) Does the sliding keyboard "loosen up" with time ? It didn't feel impressively locked closed to begin with, I don't want to feel like it's going to fall open in my hand.
3) How's the battery life? With my Eris, I can get a full day of GOOD usage without having to re-charge. The Droid?
4) I've heard issues with phone sound quality. Are those common, or isolated?
5) How's the screen in sunlight?
Does anyone have the Droid Eric background wallpaper re-sized for the Motorola Droid?

I'm making an application that deals with 5 TextViews to provide different kinds of information (distance, duration, title, description, etc) from a database. I'm using listeners to catch touch/click events and feedbacks a handler. The main function of the handler is to received a "position" in the Cursor where the new information needs to be displayed. I mentioned earlier that findViewById() is a "costly" operation. So, I don't call this method in the handler. Doing so, it will retrieve every time the Views when user touchs/clicks some widget. Is it right to populate the Activity with private members of the Views/Layout it displays? I mean, I don't like it. I don't know why, but seems that I'm populating too much the activity. I'm aware of the android:onClick xml attribute, but in my case I also use long click listeners. So, a piece of onCreate() looks like: And all of those are private members, wihout mention the "cursor.getColumnIndex()" for each. I thought on implementing Handler.Callback and set on the Hanlder.Callback constructor implementer a View array or a View list or something, but I also need this objects later to set other listeners and setups. Is this right? I cannot think another way, as I need the reference to the object, and also the Cursor reference that the handler will move to the "position" provided and update the correspondent View. I will really appreciate either an advice or a useful link/info/doc to read in what concern in this kind of designs. What I do not like is that It looks like imperative programming filling the Activity with "global" variables.

Instead, charge it frequently.Lithium-ion does not have memory problems like nickel-cadmium batteries.No deep discharges are needed for conditioning.I know once the battery bashing starts there will be 1000 suggestions to deep cycle batteries. Personally I am not really sure that I need one, but at the same time, a little extra juice is always a welcomed option for a smartphone especially when you are a heavy user.That said, it seems that Seidio has two options available, a 1750mAh and a 3500mAh which are selling for $49.95 and $69.95 respectively.The main difference here, aside from the 3500 offering more juice (and being more expensive) is that the 1750 model was designed to fit with the original battery cover. And that means no extra thickness. The 3500mAh battery on the other hand will add some extra thickness, though its said to only be 3-4mm. The nice part here is that this battery does come with the replacement back cover.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI run a small phpbb3 forum and have been racking my brains and Google for months trying to work something out.All these types of forums can play embedded videos, which usually have the bbcode tags (youtube)video(/youtube) and they play perfectly on a pc and on most new phones that support streaming media.I wanted though, to embed some of these mp3 player widgets to showcase a few playlists. The way I'm doing it at the moment is to put a section of HTML code containing the mp3 player widget directly into a post, which works fine on a pc. On a phone however, all thats visible is the HTML code.
Given that its not the phone, as it plays embedded streaming video from youtube, I'm presuming that theres a vital step that I'm missing somewhere to allow a phone to play an embedded widget containing streaming mp3s.

I have a service running that grabs the users attention with a notification. What i would like to happen when the user clicks on the notification is for it to launch a dialog box. The "proper" thing to do is to launch an activity in this way, so is there a way to get an activity to launch with out filling the screen? So it looks like a dialog box?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got an old i.Tech Virtual Keyboard I'd like to use with my Galaxy S.I downloaded KeyPro from the Market and jumped through the hoops.However, after selecting my VKB as input method for a memo KeyPro crashed when I punched the first key. It subsequently crashed whenever I tried to use the keyboard, change any settings, and even when I tried to uninstall it (which eventually worked, thank God).Does anyone else have any experience with this?Have I been unlucky or is this just a spectacularly shoddy piece of programming?
