Motorola Droid X :: Using Apex Overclock - Differences
Nov 3, 2010
I've been using ApeX overclocked. But I can't really tell all that much of a difference. It seems to run the same when it's clocked @ stock. Is it just me? Please discuss your experiences and any differences you feel with your phone resulting from overclocking and what you're overclocked at.

I have Apex and I've been running the Mad OC script at 1.3 through terminal emulator. My phone just isn't quite as stable as it should be. Maybe 1 random reboot per day (or it will freeze playing angry birds) How do I modify to OC 1.2 Is there a preferred method to accomplish this? I've tried searching and I only got more confused. I've seen manual methods and I've seen apps free and paid... I know I'll need to edit the set scaling.sh. I haven't done that but I'm willing to try? Which method should I use? Do you have setting that are stable at 1.2? If so please share. I really think the 1.2OC will be the sweet spot for my DX.

My wife and I recently purchased 2 Droid X's. My phone has no 3G reception in our house while my wife's has full 3G bars at our house. Speed Test shows a 10:1 difference. When going to a different location such as at a certain restaurant, I have full 3G reception on my phone but my wife's phone only has 2 bars for 3G.What would be the technical explanation for this phenomenon?

Ok, so on the rooting, I don't understand what makes a certain ROM more appealing than another.
That's why I ask what is the Best Rom? or if there is one? What are the main differences in Rom's?-Blackdroid,chevy,etc?

We already know that the Droid X and the Droid 2 can be overclocked, but did you know that it could be overclocked... to 2 GHz? Matt4542 and Joe - members of Team DeFuse (get it? eFuse? DeFuse?) - have taken it upon themselves to crank this thing up to 2000 MHz using setCPU, their [...]

I have not really found any threads in these forums deticated just to overclocking the Droid. I am running BB v.9 and would like to overclock past 600 mhz. I have 2 overclocking utilities. (Setcpu, and overclock widget) I understand that I have to update or flash the Kernel. I tried doing this OverClocking Motorola Droid To 1.3 GHz In 7 Easy Steps | areacellphone.com
The adb commands were successfull. WHen I rebooted my droid it was bricked (well not really cause I did a Nandroid backup right before I did this) It was just frozen with the white Motorola logo. Perhaps I downloaded a bad 800 mhz evilboot8.img.

I just overclocked to 1.2 on cynagoen 5.062, I have overclock widget installed on my phone. Whenever I check it, the widget shows the phone is at 550, unless I manually move the slider to 1200. Does this mean my phone's not really running at 1.2, or am I misunderstanding how the overclock process works? Also, is there a way to do some sort of speed test? (I don't have set cpu and I can't buy apps at the moment) I do know when i move my slider to 1200 the web seems a lot faster, but whether thats real or placebo is beyond me.

So are all Droid X able to overclock to 1450 GHZ or at least 1250 GHZ? My phone only seems to go up to 1100 GHZ, after that it just reboots only lasts about 3 seconds after the overclock and BAM reboot. So is my phone just not capable of it or am i doing something wrong? Im running FISSION v1.2 if that matters, i got the build props from the rom manager app.

I am running stock 2.1. I do not want to downgrade and root. But, i would like to overclock. People say this is possible and to just find the app on the market. All the overclock apps i have found show that it MUST be root. Can anyone provide a link to an app that will do this? Or even the title of an app that can do this WITHOUT root?

Just fixed my recovery mode issues through the solution given in this thread...
[Fix] Stock recovery coming back/Custom recovery wont stick
So i tried the next step on my agenda, which was to find an overclock kernel for Froyo 2.2. Ive tried a handful of ChevyNo1 kernels, and a couple from jdlfg and none of them seem to take. The speed scale in SetCPU remains at a max of 600mHz, while Overclock widget shows me a possible max of 900mHz. Even if i try to set the max at 900mHz in Overclock widget, the widget never actually reads that high and SetCPU never reflects that speed either.
I can confirm that I have root, and both SetCPU and Overclock Widget are being given superuser permissions.

I see ChevyNo1 has some Froyo Kernels for overclocking. Which ones should I download, I am not sure of the differences between low voltage and ultra low voltage.
Also are these the best Kernels for overclocking, or are there better ones?

Warning, this process may cause our phone to become unstable if you clock it at the wrong speed. I advise that you do not continue onto steps 2 and 3 until you find the settings that work for YOUR phone best.
All credit goes to Fab for his how-to post, Elkay for the original mod of the milestone overclock and to Hilbe for his install-recovery.sh and setscaling.sh files as well as figuring out where to add on these commands. And also Airmaxx23 for helping me refine the commands. As well as FreeWELL for his Root Explorer guide and his stop overclocking commands
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone.
First, things first download the attachment at the bottom of this post
Now on to how to overclock that survives a reboot,
1. First follow Fabolous's guide to overclocking,
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid-x/145209-how-overclock-your-droid-x.html
Here is his OP, also the overclock.ko and overclock.sh files are both in the attached Zip file at the bottom.
