HTC Incredible :: 2.1 - Procedure For Installing Roms?
Aug 7, 2010
My Incredible is Ver. 2.1 and radio 1, what is the procedure for installing roms? Can I just install any 2.2 rom right away or do I need to find a 2.1 somewhere then upgrade? Sorry, I just don't understand and I've been reading up on this for a few days. I think I understand that the Incredible will release a 2.2 update soon, do I need to wait for that. In my adventures so far, I've been able to pretty much master backing up my phone as I've had to restore it several times now.

I just rooted my phone and I'm not in the know with how to install roms, however most of the rom sites indicate how to install. Most of the roms I've visited recommend doing a data wipe and a cache wipe. Is this something I have to do every time I want to install a rom? I just did a factory reset for the 2.2 OTA and, quite frankly, it was a pain in the butt to get my phone back to how I had it.So, am I going to have to do a factory reset every time i want to try a rom?

I have been using the INC for about 2 months now and i really do like the phone. As all of you know, the battery sucks. I picked up the 1500 battery about the same time the 2.2 came out and the battery life dropped over the 2.1/stocker. I thought it may have been the battery so i used the stock 1300 for a while and it was TERRIBLE. To add to the issue, the battery takes longer to charge then it does die. And thats why i am posting this. Could someone give me a list of what i need to do while rooting my phone and installing custom roms? that will speed up charge time? Normally i wont ask for help like this but i have zero time to sit down and read about everything. Just looking for a simple fix to get me by for the next few months.

How do you get adb shell to work outside of the root procedure?. I successfully rooted my incredible, but I wanted to go back and edit some system files using adb. I have to switch sd cards to get the root process to work, so I don't want to have to open up my phone and switch the card every time I use adb.

I want to know what the proper backup procedure is. My Incredible got dust in the screen so VRZ is sending me a refurb phone in the mail.
When I switched over from a ENV touch to a Incredible they were able to restore all my text messages, pics and contacts.
How do I do this with the Incredible?

I just wanted to know if there are any benefits of rooting without installing custom roms? Now i've seen many threads here listing many benefits but its not clear whether u get those extra features from the custom roms or just from being rooted. So i was to root my phone and then leave the stock rom on, what extra would i be able to do?

So I'm wondering about the best way to backup apps and data before installing new roms since it usually involves a full system+data wipe. Right now I use Titanium Backup and then restore all user apps when I have the new Rom loaded. While this works pretty well, I still have to go back and change all my settings, set up my accounts, etc. Shouldn't there be some way to preserve this data? Also very frustrating is that I have to re add all my widgets in Launcherpro. Any way to get a real backup of that too? The process isn't too bad right now, but as more and more Roms come for the droid x, I'd rather not have to repeat the setup process every time.

I have been messing around with rooting and installing custom roms then going stock messing with settings then going to another to see how I like it. In the past, after I flashed a stock .sbf file I would be prompted for the Froyo OTA update. I just did it again last night. I was wondering, can you flash your phone too many times where you start to cause problems? And, does Verizon keep a check on how many times you've downloaded an update? Or, is it just not popping up because FRG22D is out?

I have a Sony xperia S updated to the latest build of ICS with a 1 year warranty ( still there's about 7-8 months in it )
im eager to install custom roms on it , but problem is that i loose warranty if i unlock my bootloader and im a moderate/heavy user on the phone .
So my question is , should i go for it and unlock the bootloader ? because im still stuck with ICS while cyangenmod has Jelly bean for my phone ..
or should i keep the warranty and wait because something might happen to it ? ( still no word from sony on the update to its 7 months old phone ... )

I know that our android phone has a specified amount of internal storage.part of it is for storing apk, datas etc.another part is for rom image and all all those stuff.what i want to know is when i am installing a new rom,is it actually overwriting the existing rom.or is it installed alongside it.cause my phone is getting slower each time i install a new custom rom in my htc hero.it has 600 mhz processor.but even angry birds lag in my phone but it works smooth on my nokia 5233 xpress music touch phone.both these games are are of similar size and have same graphics quality.

So PSX4Droid finally got released from the clutches of Google Market about an hour ago. Only problem now is I can't seem to get any roms to work. I set up a PSXROMS folder on my SD card, and my first d/l was Metal Gear Solid disc 1 and 2. I got them from here PSX ISO Download Section. So I downloaded the .rar, unzipped to get the .bin (says it's compatible), open the emulator, the emulator sees the files in the folder, I click it, it refreshes the rom screen. The emulator doesn't start. Am I doing something wrong? Wrong file type?

Anyone ever had this happen? Downloaded an update after the 2.1 upgrade and I sync'd my contacts with FB. It then deleted all of my contacts. So I deleted Facebook, re-stored all my contacts and reloaded Facebook. However, now it gets as far as installing and it never stops. It just stays on Installing. However, the FB app works fine on the phone itself. Is this a Market glitch? Is there anyway I can purge it from out of my downloads section?

Every time you mention, use, or talk about an app, include its link on AppBrain.
This way, users can see the app, its price, reviews, and so on; in addition, they can install it easily to their EVO.
To link to an app in AppBrain, just open a new browser window/tab here:
AppBrain - the best Android apps and games on the Android market
and use the Search Box in the top of the page. Once the app is found, click on its title to get a unique link for that app.
For example, say I wrote a post about my favorite Twitter client. Well, I'd include a link like this one:
twidroid PRO for twitter - Android app on AppBrain
How does that sound to everyone?

Some of you may be intimidated by the new 2.2 rooting instructions. Here's an explanation of what the steps do and why you're doing them. Hopefully, armed with this info, you'll be more confident in proceeding with rooting your phone. See this thread for reference: xda-developers - View Single Post - [GUIDE] How to root Android 2.2 on the EVO 4G
Steps 1-3:
In order to execute the root exploit, you need a tool called "adb." This stands for Android Debugging Bridge, and it is bundled with the Android SDK. The SDK is a package that allows you to write applications for Android, but the only reason we're downloading the SDK is for the adb tool, which is located in a /Tools subfolder in the SDK. The latest HTC Sync is needed because it contains the drivers that allow adb to interface between your PC and your phone. I believe the version of Sync specified will work with windows 7 64-bit. Mac users, scroll down to post 18 in this thread. EarlyMon has the procedure for you.
Step 4:
You need to turn on USB debugging on your phone in order for adb to work. You will be using adb to copy files to your phone and execute linux commands. More on this later.
Step 5:
It is important that your phone is in charge only. If it is in disk drive mode, your phone pretty much locks your sdcard from being written by adb. Make sure you're in charge mode.
Step 6:
Now you have to copy files onto your phone via adb. The "adb push" command basically takes a file on your PC and pushes it to your phone. If you needed a file copied off your phone onto your PC, you'd use adb pull. Easy, right? Let's look at the first copy command:

I have just received my unlock code from T-Mobile. Only problem is their procedure asks me to fit a non T-Mobile simcard as part of the procedure.
Is this the only way I can do it? Must I have a different sim-card to start the unlocking? I don`t have one so bit of a problem.

While following the instructions posted, Step II-10.
Have yellow exclamation in Device Manager,
Get this window during update driver step:

The wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed.
I do have usb_driver folder:

I have read around a bit but I am kinda confused between different phones/versions using metamorph.
Last time I tried it and restarted I got stuck in a bootloop =P. I made a COMPLETE backup so going to give it a try shortly.
As I understand, I download metamorph from the market, move my themes into my sdcard metamorph folder, then basically run metamorph. I think BB.9 has busybox already taken care of.
I don't need to clear/wipe anything or whatnot for this to work correct, right?

I recently got a Hero and spent the last few days lurking hard enough to root, flash Cyanogenmod 6.0 (RC1), uncapped kernel, and collins battery tweak without trouble. Needless to say, this transformed my phone and I'm passionately in love with it
Finally I am reaching out to community for help for the first time. I want to buy a bigger (and faster) SD card, and want to make sure I don't screw anything up. Can I simply insert the new card and format it, or do I need to transfer any specific files, do a wipe of any sort, etc. before switching cards?

My phone isn't rooted yet but I want to do it. I upgraded from 1.5 to 2.1 via the system upgrade that Verizon ousted out to all Eris users a few weeks ago. Here are my questions:
Is OTA = over the air?
Is my 2.1 rom the one that is referred to as 2.1 OTA?
Is there a well documented procedure out there for rooting my version 2.1 rom phone?

So, I installed a couple emulators, put some roms on my SD card (yes they are definitely on the SD card and not the onboard flash), ejected my devices from my PC, and disconnected my USB cable.
Now when I open up the emulators, they are not able to see any directories on the SD card.
It's almost as if the SD card is acting as if it's still mounted. Not sure what to do here...
