Motorola Droid X :: Way To Uninstall Bloatware?

Jul 16, 2010

Really enjoying the new Droid X so far (my first smartphone), but I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of all this horrible bloatware. I cannot even see the apps to uninstall through the settings on the phone, and trying to uninstall them through appbrain just gives an uninstall error. Anyone know if it's possible to remove them?

Motorola Droid :: Remove Bloatware From Froyo

Aug 28, 2010

When I originally rooted my phone (I had 2.1 at the time), I was able to remove all the bloatware i didnt want by going into Root Explorer and changing each application's file extension from .apk to .bak.

Now, with Froyo, I tried to do the same thing, but the only apps that show up in /data/app are the ones that I have installed off the market.

Am I looking in the correct directory? How do I go about removing all this crap in Froyo?

Motorola Droid X :: Useless Bloatware With No Way Of Removing It?

Oct 5, 2010

I have been a big fan of android since I heard about it a few years ago and when my carrier finally got a android phone I jumped at it. The day the Motorola droid came out I bought it. The Motorola Droid is a great device and I am really happy with it. Fast forward last week I bought a Droid X for my girl friend and at first we both thought it was an amazing device. But after using it some more I noticed all the CRAP that comes with the phone.(she will never use skype and all the other junk) I am mad at google for letting companys like Motorola add all this useless crap on a phone with no way of removing it. Also the battery only lasts a few hours with only twitter and facebook installed on the device? Without rooting it does anyone else know a way to remove these apps?

Motorola Droid X :: Update 2.2 - Reinstall Bloatware

Aug 20, 2010

I was trying to get my phone prepared to update to 2.2 and I wanted to reinstall the bloatware. I did something stupid. I went into adb shell, went to the system/app folder and did "mv *.bak *.apk" which basically destroyed everything in that folder. At that moment, I tried to RSDLite flash my phone the SBF but it wouldn't take. Phone froze up, couldn't do anything and, of course, I get the Droid animation when booting infinitely due to nothing being in /system/app I can reboot into recovery and connect the phone to my PC, but nothing really seems to happen. I imagine I could recover the phone if someone made an update.zip which restored the default apps into the /system/app folder, but I don't have an update.zip of that nature. Even the Verizon ones I have seem to look for old versions of the files. Does anyone have or can tailor an update.zip which would restore the system/app folder for me? I think that, if you could do that, I could be saved. Otherwise, I think I am screwed, unless someone has another option for me.

Motorola Droid X :: Cannot Restore Bloatware (Titanium Backed Up)

Sep 5, 2010

I rooted my Droid X yesterday, used Titanium Backup to backup all apps + system data, reset to factory defaults (still rooted it seems), then tried to restore the bloatware apps. Now the bloatware wont reinstall from Titanium, but regular apps do. Am I missing something or will this take a bit of work to get these bloatware apps back on so I can get to 2.2? Can it be done with Astro FIle Manager? I don't see how to set permissions.

Motorola Droid X : Removing Bloatware Noticeably Increase Performance / Battery Life?

Jul 23, 2010

I have asked this on the bloatware thread, and I've only seen one person mention that they have seen an improvement (BringTheRain403). I know a lot of you have removed most of the bloatware by now.

Do you see a noticeable increase in performance or battery life after removing the bloatware? By removing, I mean freezing the apk's in Titanium Backup. I don't really have a problem with this stuff being on the phone, but if it will noticeably help to remove it, then I definitely will.

Droid Explorer
Check This Tool Out I Found! Android is Getting Convenient

Droid Explorer is a tool to manage your rooted android device with the simplicity of Windows Explorer. You can browse every file on your Android device, much like the infamous app "Root Explorer" does. I think this is very much so a handy tool for those that are in need of removing some software....like the bloatware that comes preintalled. Some of you may even want to add stuff, like Google Maps and so on. Try it out!!

I highly recommend standalone for Windows users.....

HTC EVO 4G :: Way To Get Rid Of Bloatware?

Jun 9, 2010

First I rooted with unrEVOked and found out we couldn't take full control of the phone - was only good for wifi tethering to my understanding. So I re rooted via Toast's way on XDA - man did that take FOREVER! ANyhow, I forgot to backup my 300+ contacts before doing so - I tried to sync with my gmail, but it didnt So I have to restore my BB and try to sync with Outlook some how to get a CSV file to sync with google - again, FML Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this phone!!! But man what a nightmare this is turning out to be. I have been working on it for 10 hours straight! and even missed the Laker game coz I wanted to get some results. Anyhow, I only rooted to I could remove the bloatware and tether wifi for free! So far, thats all I can do after this long day. My question is: How do you remove the bloatware? Please give a somewhat detailed instruction on how to do so and with what program/terminal did you use. I am proficient with both Mac n PC.

HTC EVO 4G :: Way To Uninstall Bloatware?

May 26, 2010

It seems to be common practice for service providers to bog down their newest phones with bloatware. I've read some information on these forums that seems to indicate that the Evo comes with a lot of sprint programs installed, IE bloatware. I'm a current blackberry user and one of the perks of having one is that I was able to remove all of tmobiles useless, bloatware apps from day one so I could use the phone's memory on programs that I wanted. Now, my question is, is there is a simple uninstall feature that would allow me to unistall programs like sprint tv, sprint nav, etc? Or would I have to root the phone to be able to uninstall those apps?

HTC Incredible :: Cant Remove Bloatware

Sep 5, 2010

I am running rooted incredible with 2.x radio, and virtuous' 2.2 ROM. Its working... well, kinda slow... In fact, its lagging (? unhappy face )

I am new to rooting, just started messing with it yesterday. I followed JONAMERICA's site to rooting, reflashing to stock with S-OFF, and going with the manual radio and rom update.

Then, to delete apps I followed his instruction as well, but whenever I type in command prompt "cdsd ools" it says directory not found...

I want to remove voice dialer, news, google search, gmail, and friend stream. I know that Virtuous has a EZcustomizer, but it doesnt remove these apps that I want off.

Also, any ideas as to why its working so slow? Like... it lags when i go from screen to screen, loading apps take a bit longer than when I was on 2.1 last night... once again, slightly unhappy face...

I followed everything else to the letter...

Heres a link to his site, if anyone doesnt know what I'm talking about...Remove bloatware from HTC Droid Incredible 2.2 - Technology - Jonamerica.com
