Motorola Droid 2 :: Can I Downgrade From 2.2 To 2.1.1?
Sep 4, 2010I have a Motorola Droid 2 on Verizon. It is not rooted, just a basic phone with a few apps. I'm currently running Froyo 2.2 and I would like to get back to 2.1.1, or frankly any version other than 2.2. I got my phone last year in November and it was running version 2.0. Since then I have upgraded to 2.1 and 2.1.1. Around a month ago, the 2.2 update was pushed to my phone, and after reading great reviews about it, I was excited to upgrade. I allowed the update to my phone and since then I have experienced constant problems with it. Another "update" was pushed to my phone a week or so ago, but I checked the version after the update and it was still 2.2, so I'm not sure if it actually did anything, and I still have the same problems.
Since updating, my web browser freezes up regularly making it unable to use. Some of the applications I use frequently crash or freeze up (such as Pandora). The phone is much less responsive; I sometimes have to just put it down and wait for it to start responding to input again. When I try to select a text message to read, most of the time it enters a different thread than the one I selected. I'll then have to back out and try to select the text message I want to read again, and it always works the second time. The phone often misses calls; it doesn't ring or anything. I'll just get a voicemail, which is the only way I know I missed the call; no other notification or anything. It no longer plays WAV files. About half the time I try to load a YouTube video, or even launch the YouTube application, I receive a message that there is no internet connection, even though I'm using the web browser and I know I have an internet connection. Before upgrading, I almost never rebooted my phone, but now I have to rebooted multiple times a week because of the freezing and crashing of apps. Basically it has went from a smartphone, to just a phone. I am so frustrated. If I can't downgrade, I think I'm just going to have to get a different phone. I have found posts on how to downgrade other phones from 2.2 to 2.1, but I'm not sure if they work on the Motorola Droid 2, and I don't want to risk being completely without a phone, since I use it for work and personal use. The other guides I have found for the downgrade seem to specify they are for phones other than the Motorola Droid 2.

Aug 6, 2010I have done a decent bit of Googling and searching in this forum for this answer. I was wondering if there was a way to downgrade from the manual update 2.2 back to the 2.1. I have been having such a hard time with my Wifi since I upgraded I just would like to be able to go back to a better working version. I tried putting the manual 2.1 update.zip in and doing that, but it just says "error in sdcard update.zip status 2" I couldn't find what status 2 means, but I imagine in layman's terms it means something like "You can't downgrade like that dummy!" So, I fear that I am just stuck until our update gets updated.

Sep 22, 2010Do not try to SBF back to 2.1 if you did the OTA 2.2 update. It will brick your phone completely. New bootloader version is 30.03. I tried to SBF back to 2.1 after doing to OTA 2.2 update and you cant. RSD finishes the SBF, but when the phone is suppose to reboot it wont. Instead you get an error "Err:A5,70,70,00,1F" on the bootloader. Won't let you boot to recovery or nothing. Just boots to bootloader. So Im bricked till theres a fix..

Nov 9, 2009I have an HTC holster that I used for the last year. The Droid JUST fits into it. However, I kept having the Droid come on in my holster and it was driving me batty how it would unlock on it's own. Then it hit me. The holster clips shut MAGNETICALLY.The Droid thought it was in a multimedia dock so it stayed on while on my side.THAT's why my battery was draining so fast.So, be sure to get a velcro or other type of holster, nothing with magnets.

Nov 16, 2009Got the new Moto Droid which is spectacular. The Gmail sync with Outlook is brilliant. My old HTC Windows Mobile that held 87 appointments for the next year was synced with Windows Outlook which was then sent to my Gmail calender.The Droid automatically listed all appointments seamlessly.When I listed my HTC on eBay, I had to clear all contacts and appointments. This is very labor intensive to do on the phone one by one. I synced the HTC with Outlook and erased all info on the old HTC. I did not think much of it when a window popped up indicating that my Gmail calender would erase these items too and IIRC I clicked OK.A funny thing happened the next day when I plugged the Droid into the computer. The auto sync with the Gmail calender updated my Droid calender with the newly erased Gmail calender. It erased every appointment on the Droid as the calender auto transferred.After I changed my undershorts, I was able to restore the Droid by going to Outlook "deleted items", move them back to the calender folder in Outlook, sync with Gmail, and finally sync with the Droid again.

My Droid was sitting on my desk next to me, it had about 80% battery life left, I get a few txt messages, and then its giving me the warning that my battery life is 15% and to plug it into the charger. Well I put it on the charger, and not even 30 seconds go by, and its fully charged. This has only happened once so far, but I am concerned is the battery slowly dying out, or is it just a glitch in the phone?

May 18, 2010I found this on Android Central (thanks to IzelTokatl) and someone there did verify it worked for OTA 2.1 phones. I tried it on my leak version 3 phone and I got the Hboot error again. I'm thinking this does not bode well for phones with the leak as once Verizon releases the upgrade for download from PCD or HTC we still won't be able to use it until the Hboot problem is fixed. The following instructions for doing the downgrade to 1.5 are cut and pasted from the Android Central forum and I edited them for PC's: Download the MR2 Upgrade Eris ROM from verizon partner: personal Communications Devices
1. Unzip the file
2. Plug your phone into your PC.
3. Navigate to folder ADR6200_MR2_Upgrade
4. Run .exe file in the folder (RUU_Desire_C_Verizon_WWE_1.17.605.1_release_signe d_with_driver.exe)
5. follow on screen instructions.

Jun 3, 2010I received a 'low memory' message last night and my first action was to dump some unneeded apps which seemed to relieve the problem, but I figure that it is just a matter of time until it comes back. I am not using the SD card for anything right now and was wondering if that could be a path to avoiding this in the future. If so, what can I move there and how do I do it? Can I run apps from the SD card? I have a couple of large 3rd party apps including Grocery iQ (9.25MB), Touchdown (7.98MB), Documents to Go (7.59MB) and Trapster (4.61MB) along with a bunch that are in the 3-4MB range.

Nov 27, 2009Okay so I just got my Eris and I love it except for one thing, I can't sync my exchange server because I get this warning:

There are problems with the security certificate for this site.

THEN it gives me three options Continue, View, Cancel
When I hit continue, it thinks for a minute and pops back up. View brings me to a viewing screen and then after you hit okay, back to the same warning screen and cancel. . . well cancels.

and on another android forum. every thread is huge with a TON of people having problems and answers scattered everywhere. Is there one place with an updated guide for windows and mac or just mac that officially roots so I can install custom ROMs? What about downgrading? I've been bouncing all around to different forums and guides and none are clear. The XDA thead by toast also says his root doesn't allow custom ROMs but I've seen custom ROMs mentioning toast?

Aug 31, 2010So i got to the step on XDAweb's guide to root 2.2 where: cd /data/local./flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img then reboot the phone. it went through flawlessly and it rebooted. now, i have no video on the screen, its all black. i pulled the battery, i tried to abd to it, but it said device not found. i can hear the startup chime, feel the hauptic force feedback, so i know the phone itself is working, but for some reason the screen crapped out! I use this phone for work as an IT professional and im kinda up a creek.
