I'm on the leaked 2.2 and for some reason I can't seem to get bootstrap recovery to work. It's installed on my phone and when I press Bootstrap Recovery it says sucess but when I try to reboot into recovery nothing happens (my goal is to eventually install the ApeX rom) any suggestions?

I'm not really sure how to go about using these now to create a backup and recovery for my phone in case anything ever happens. I have downloaded Droid X bootstrap and ROM Manager so far not really sure where to download Clockwork (if this is even a different app than what I have).Does a tutorial on how to use these things exist anywhere? I did a search on this forum, but it seems like everything is for moderately experienced users.
So I installed the bootstrap to SBF my phone to get 2.1 all fine and dandy to upgrade. but now thats done and I dont need it any more but Every time i reboot - It loads up and I have to press the reboot system.how do i get RID of it? I tried installing it again, and pressing the bootstrap button (top one) as I read if you did it a second time it would go away, and it has on Occasion, but its back to every time now.

I can't for the life of me do a backup and not get that error so it's kind of making backups pointless right now since we need communication with blur for the update service to get the OTA froyo update.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have searched and can't seem to find the answers I am looking for so I figured I might make a post to get them all answered together, hopefully.So I have the leaked 2.2, just rooted, and am trying to figure out how to back it up. I installed bootstrap and Rom Manager, but don't really understand what they do or how to use them.
Bootstrap:
1. I went into bootstrap and hit the Bootstrap recovery button. A screen pops up that says success. What does this mean?
2. I hit the Reboot Recovery and it popped me into recovery mode where I was able to make a backup of rom and data, is that all there is to it or what?
Rom Manager:
1. I opened Rom Manager and installed the program it says I need to do a backup, but when I hit "Backup Current Rom", it reboots and does nothing. When I get back it gives me an error message that says it failed. Any ideas on this?
2. What exactly does Rom Manager do in the first place?
Other questions:
1. Which way is the best way to create a backup?
2. I hear about flashing to stock, or to do other things, what exactly does this mean? Do I lose my whole layout such as widgets? I keep a lot of sticky notes with information I would hate to lose, is there a way to keep them backed up?
3. When you do flash, and assuming that you lose all information other than what is on the sd card, can you restore just the data you have backed up from a different Rom? Example: I have 2.2 now, if I flashed to 2.1, can I restore just the data I have saved from 2.2 back to 2.1?
4. What is Deodex exactly? Again, sorry for the newb questions, but before I go any further than I am, I would enjoy knowing more than I do about this stuff.
Does anyone know how to make a copy of my clockworkmod bootstrap app into an .apk that I can put on my sdcard? When I keep installing new themes, and flashing back to .sbf, the most annoying part is signing back in to my phone to have to download the bootstrap then wipe my phone again. I am by NO MEANS trying to cheat the developer out of profits he makes selling this app, just trying to more "effectively" use the copy I paid for.

No particular reason aginst rooting other than i have a knack for screwing things up. Comin from an iphone, this is all new to me. Basically I love my setup now with lpp and my custom wallpaper and custom icons. I really really want a black status bar though. whats the easiest way to do that (and eventually other things, but for now just the bar, and a few root apps). I understand the simpleoneclick root process and will be doing that later. then i need to install bootstrap app? then deodex- easiest way is the 928droid black glass from what i understand. and follow the all-in-one guide post and poof im done? questions: will this change all my icons, wallpaper, or affect lpp in any way (if so, how can i fix it back). Is the 928 a rom (and what exactly does that mean)? it changes the sliders and everything? does it automatically include a black status bar (with white text etc...) What do i need to do to get JUST a black status bar. how would i go from the 928 to a different rom? .....

View 5 Replies View Relatedi formatted all partitions installed bbv0.4 again. now i cant get clockworkmod recovery to work. i have reflashed and it still hangs up on the white M screen everytime. i tried to hold x and power down and it did the same thing! i cant download anything from rom manager or backup my phone!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a MotoDroid that has Froyo 2.2... I rooted it and am running a new rom. I was trying to boot into recovery using rom manager and it doesnt work. I also tried holding the x and power button down to reboot and it wont work either. It just shows the "M" for a long time then flashes "M" comes up again and in load like normal or it sometimes freezes and I have to take the battery out. just also tried to back up current rom and that doesnt work either.

I have moved those files to my computer and put the bugless beast nandroid files in their place. The problem is when I go to Droidroothelper and select reboot/recovery my phone reboots and the /! comes up on my screen and a line on the bottom says E: can't open /cache/recovery/command......
any tips I dont know what to do to load the nandroid backup of the bugless beast.
I was rooted and decided to unroot for giggles. After i did I went to root again and now I am getting this: "E: cant open/cache/recovery,command " When I reboot into recovery mode.

I used SMupdater and it went fine. now when I try ot root again I get a "can't open cache/recovery/command" error in recovery and it wont let me select any of the options by hitting the camera button. idk what to do
View 2 Replies View RelatedI hit the top button. Flash Clockworkmod recovery or what ever it said. I then backed up my Current ROM. I then downloaded Cyanogen v6.0.0 cr2. It downloaded and rebooted my phone. But It went to a screen with a Triangle w/ exclamation and a phone under it. I then hit the up vol button and camera, and now I'm at the Android system recovery page and I don't know what to do next. These are my options reboot system now apply sdcard:update.zip wipe data/factory rest wipe cache partition wipe base band data. I did click to backup current ROM and wipe data and cache.
View 38 Replies View RelatedFirst off let me say that I was wrong about this issue. Its not an issue with Easy root it is just something built into android. So I apologize to anyone I argued this subject with but specifically Patch. Its also not an issue with rom manager. This applys to users that after flashing a custom recovery they can boot into it once but the next time you try to boot into recovery it has reverted to stock.
This mostly happens to users of easy root or users that use my guide for rooting using Linux
So for the fix.
Download this file and place it in the root of your sd card.

Download Terminal Emulator from the market. The one by the dev Jack Palevich.
Open it and type the following commands.
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
dd if=/sdcard/install-recovery.sh of=/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
chmod 550 /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
sync
after that just flash the custom recovery of your choice and you should be good to go.
I tested this on my phone and another user tested it for me and it worked for both of us. If anyone has an issue let me know. This issue is so sporadic that its hard to have people test the fix.
Just rooted yesterday, and everything was running great... untill I installed Simply Stunning v4.3. I went to make a back up and found that I cannot access my recovery, it was stuck at the M. Now Rom Manager says that if this happens, flash a different recovery then flash clockwork back. Here is the catch- When I try to flash a different recovery I get this, "An error occurred while flashing your recovery."

The unit tests are written against JUnit 4. It looks like Android 2.2 comes with JUnit 3 as the default. Is there an easy way (or any way) to bootstrap JUnit 4 as the test runner?
I am using IDEA as my dev environment, but it doesn't appear there's any settings that will allow me to specify JUnit 4.
today I used cw to load a screen rotation mod from Calkulin...Everything seemed fine after that so I tired to boot into clockwork again to do a backup and it brings up a screen with a green android and under that it says "Downloading... Do not shut off device" It just hangs on that screen until I reboot the phone!

Probably a very simple fix here, but I can't figure it out. I deleted a few roms off of my sd card to make room for the new warm 2.2 release and went to flash it. For some reason, when I'm in the boot screen, I select recovery, but it doesn't boot into the actual recovery mode anymore, it goes to another white screen which I think is the fastboot screen.

Im running jrummy 1.0 with a 1mhz p3 kernal, I am using rom manager and when it tries to reboot into recovery it just hangs at the M screen. i have to pull the battery then i try to reboot into sprecovery using x and power button but i get the same thing. Everything worked fine, I was able to restore all of my apps from TiB with no problem. Went to ROM Manager to install a new rom, but wanted to reboot into recovery first to ensure all was working okay, but never made it to the recovery menu, just got an exclamation point in a triangle with a phone symbol at the bottom. Now I'm stuck in a bootloop and I'm unable to get into Clockworkmod recovery, I have no idea what to do? Edit: okay, I have no idea how I did this, but I tried to go into recovery again and got the same exclamation in a triangle, but I decided to randomly hold down the Power button along with the camera button and hit the volume rocker and even with the symbol still showing, I got a recovery menu where I was able to reset and reboot and i still have root. Truly have no idea how I did this, but sometimes the sun shines on.
