Motorola Droid X :: Touch Screen Lagging - Unresponsive When Swiping
Jul 16, 2010
I got my Droid X yesterday and for the most part I'm impressed. (I didn't realize how much I liked HTC's Sense UI until replaced my Incredible with this phone.)
So far my only frustration is the touch screen. When I'm swiping between home screens, or even in applications, it often doesn't register anything or it'll open the first icon I touch even though I'm swiping. Sometimes I have to press an icon a couple times before it'll open up as well. This is getting REALLY frustrating because I can't just do things quickly but I have to watch to see if what I selected actual opens or swipes, etc.
I've only installed a few applications, including LauncherPro. Is anybody else having any issues like this?

So over the past few days I'll go to use my phone only to find that I can't make the screen work. I can't swipe my pattern or even touch to power down the phone therefore requiring I used the d-pad to select shut down. Its happened about 4 times now, twice yesterday and once this morning. Is it a froyo issue? Or just my certified "like-new" breaking after 2 months already?

Anyone have issues where the touch screen and the buttons become unresponsive for a period for short bursts. I think my phone has had it. I tried restoring it to see if certain apps maybe causing it but that is not the issue. Restored still same problem. it happens about every 5 minutes.

just got my desire HD on friday and i've noticed a massive problem already. a part of the screen is unresponsive or just doesn't work properly. its a massive pain to try and type on and sometimes a button to press is in that gap on the screen so essentially you cant select it? a friend of mine has got an experia phone and he said he had the same issue but, when he did a 'manual update on his computer using software on phone?' it fixed it. so i'm hoping this could be a software fix and hopefully not have to wait to send it back.i hope you guys have heard of a problem like this and could really help me

Just recently, the top part of the screen where I would normally swipe to slide out the notification tray turned unresponsive. I downloaded the screen test tookit and tested the touch screen, and it confirmed the top part of the screen is not registering any touches. Is there anyway to fix this? Or am I stuck with this unless I bring it back to Sprint?

I have had my Incredible for 24 hours now, and I am having problems with the touch input becoming completely unresponsive. Sometimes just waiting will fix the problem, sometimes I have to turn the screen off with the power button and then turn it back on to get it to recognize input. Just as an example, for the last 20 minutes I have been trying to type my password in Market to associate my Google account in order to buy an app, and have given up because I cannot successfully get through typing my entire password without the screen becoming unresponsive to the point that I cannot finish. Also, in regards to the keyboard specifically and not the entire screen in general. When using the landscape keyboard, I CANNOT, no matter what I do, get the keyboard to recognize the character "G" every letter surrounding G works, but G is a no go.Last night I even did a hard reset and that did not fix the problem. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone else's touch screen become unresponsive when the Epic is being charged? My touch screen gets glitchy and only responds to a fraction of touches.
I just received mine yesterday and I've already spent more than 6 hours trying to troubleshoot this issue. Most of the google searches that I've found have to do with cheap 3rd party chargers, but I'm using the OEM Samsung charger.
I thought it might be the charger, so I went out and purchased 4 different chargers today, but none of them fix the issue.
I also ordered another Epic for my wife at the same time, and her Epic has the same problem, which suggests that it's not a defective phone (unless they both came from the same batch).
To confuse things even more, I've been able to isolate 2-3 outlets in the house where this problem doesn't happen. The problem also doesn't happen when I charge at work, through a car charger, or via USB from the laptop.
I'm inclined to think it has something to do with the outlets in the house. However, I've never heard of any issue like that and the house is relatively new (built in '98).

I've had this issue happen a few times, so I disregarded it, but a few hours ago it happened 3 times in a row.I'm in the middle of a phone call, and suddenly I hear a beep, and I look at the phone and the call was disconnected (I'm back on the 'Phone' screen). I then realize that the phone becomes unresponsive (the screen doesn't respond, same thing goes for the Home/Menu/Back/Search buttons). The only thing I can do is press the top 'Off/Lock' button to shut off the screen, then press it again, and everything goes back to normal. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? If so, any advice/solutions?My phone is stock, no rooting or roms. I've downloaded a few apps from Android market and that's about it.My 30-day purchase window is up in about a week, so I'd like to get this resolved before then to avoid any headaches.

I have noticed in the last couple weeks that my X will start to lose some screen sensitivity and make it almost impossible to type on, whether in portrait or landscape mode. Yesterday I actually had the screen become completely unresponsive. The hardware buttons worked fine. I could bring up my last 8 opened apps, open up the settings bar, even hit home and it would let me check which home screen I wanted to go to. But the actual screen would not respond to anything. I held down the power button to chose to power down the phone for a reset, because for some reason I was expecting to be able to select shut down from an unresponsive screen, and couldn't select this for the said reason. I did a battery pull and was able to use it again. Has anyone had this happen to them? Any thoughts?

I noticed that the screen seems unresponsive at the very bottom of the screen near the hardware buttons. It's most noticeable when typing on keyboard and trying to hit spacebar; unless I hit the spacebar right on the middle or top, it doesn't register.i.e. hitting it toward the bottom 1/3 of the spacebar. It seems noticeable when hitting the phone, app drawer, or contact icons as well. Anyone else notice this? Found this on the Motorola forums about other having similar issue.

I bought a new droid for $20 haha lucky i think until i notice that the touch screen only works for the middle of the screen to the left so if yu cut the screen into thirds only the middle and left work assuming that yu cut it from top to bottom with the lights at the bottom for the home button etc. I opened it up cleaned all the flex cable with alcohol and waited for it to dry and it still does the same thing so my question is = do i need a new digitizer or is it a software problem or something that i dont even know?

I dropped my phone from a waste level height onto concrete, the phone appears to be in perfect condition but the screen is completely black and unresponsive. I had upgraded the phone, a motorolla Backflip, to Cyanogen 7.1 so it would suck less (still sucks) and what I need to do is somehow fix the screen or maybe view the files somehow from my computer. There was tons of really important school related notes on a notes app I downloaded as well as other really important files. My number one goal is to somehow get these notes or just see them at least in whatever way possible, fixing the phone is not so much of a worry because I already have a replacement. The phone vibrates when it powers up and the LED notification light blinks as it is being charged like its supposed to, the keyboard keys don't light up like they're supposed to and I'm not sure they work, but the home, back, and the other button with the four squares on the front of the phone work and vibrate when tapped but they don't light up either. The phone is clearly on I just can't see it.

Has anyone been able to disable the screen in which you have to swipe down to unlock the phone? I'd like to use just the unlock pattern option like on the Moto Droid, but I haven't been able to get rid of the swiping screen altogether.

Currently to open the screen so i can click on my home screen I have to press one of the 4 hard buttons to get the unlock screen to come up then slide the unlock button across the screen. Is there any way to make it so that just touching the screen will cause the unlock screen button to show up?

I've only had my Droid a few weeks and am still getting used to it. Yesterday, on a business trip, it was working fine. I plugged it in last night, and now the screen is not responding to my touch (it is loading messages because I can hear the tone). I can't unlock it, I can't turn it off. What have I done and how can I fix it?

It happened the other day, after a battery pull it would work for about 3 min and lock up. I did a factory reset and it worked for a couple days now it is doing it again. I didn't install any new apps either time. Anyone else have or hear about problems like this? should I return it?

I got my Droid X on launch day from Best Buy, and like most people here, I am very happy with my phone. However, I've been having a problem and I don't know if anyone else has been having it. Sometimes when I'm typing on Swype, or just using the phone in general, my finger won't register on the screen. For example if I'm typing a word, the line in Swype will get disconnected, and thus I will not have the right word. Also on my homescreen, when this happens I would not be able to switch between homescreens. If I lock my phone and unlock it again, usually this seems to fix the problem. I'd say at least once every 10 times I use my phone.

I can't find anything on this function. I.E. For those with a heavier touch, unwanted applications are opened when scrolling or navigating around the screen. For example, my contact list.I'll be running down the list to let's say the " R's " and when I get near the person I want to contact and slide the list up or down to center their view, it seems like the slightest touch anywhere besides right on their name opens up the wrong one.

My Touch screen was acting up the last few days (not responding intermittently) and then yesterday I installed a new rom from Jrummy (Kangerade V5.0.9)... once it booted up I was unable to "Touch the Droid to Start" or whatever is says and after multiple battery pulls and restoring to old roms, nothing has changed.. When they boot up I cant get past the lock screen..
I went to Verizon and they are sending me out a new phone should be here tomorrow or Friday. Do I need to be worried about sending a rooted phone back to Verizon? Is there anything that I can try to do to unroot with out my touch screen working? Is there a way to get the screen working again?
I can still boot into Clockwork Recovery, and all the hard buttons work. Obviously I am a novice with all of this, so your patients and understanding is appreciated.

I have looked all over, and done a few searches already, but that don't mean I'm not blind.
How do you/Can you calibrate the screen touch points on the DX? I seem to have to aim slightly lower left of every thing I want to hit. Sadly it seems to be getting worse or well, I'm blinder than I thought.

Just like it says, when I plug my phone in at night to charge, after a bit the screen no longer responds to touch inputs until I unplug it.About the only exception is a tap to engage snooze in the AM. To unlock or answer a text I have to unplug it.

Maybe I'm missing something but in the WinMo version of Swype theres an option to double a word that came out wrong and choose from a list of alternatives. That function doesn't seem to be included in the android one. I don't have nearly as many mistakes now with a capacitive touch screen as opposed to my old resistive, but I still get one every now and again and its easier to do that than place the cursor, backspace, and re-swype.

Any one have this happen? I reboot, turned off overclock (was at 800mhz), pull battery, no go. Think it could be rom related? I am thinking of installing a new rom and wiping the phone, not sure.
Anyone have this happen before?

My touch screen is suddenly on the hyper-fritz. It won't respond to my touch most of the time, so I can't even unlock it. When I finally get it to unlock, the screen spazzes out, as though it's getting all sorts of false signals. Any ideas? Anybody?

So my beloved Droid is finally starting to show her age. Part of the touch screen has failed on the very right side of the screen as can be seen here:
The phone is still fully functional other than this and appears to be one of the better units out there (runs perfectly stably with 1.2ghz ulv kernels, gets great battery life and has a bubbly keyboard).
Having this portion of the touch screen go out does cause a few major problems though:
-Search hardware button no longer works
-Can't use notification blind in landscape view
-Can't hit backspace on portrait on-screen keyboard
-Many software buttons (like the ones in maps) can't be used in portrait
I have already visited my local VZW store and was assured they have replacement Droid 1s in stock.
