Motorola Droid :: ERE25 And Restoring Applications

Mar 4, 2010

How are you restoring your apps?
Titanium Backup?
Astro?
Manual?

If manual, do you keep a list of which apps you've got installed so that you can restore them more easily? Does anyone restore /data from 2.0.1? Or will that just cause more problems? I've used Astro in the past, but not for ROM purposes. And I've got Titanium installed, but have never used it. It seems like there are several options but I've yet to hear of any preferred option from anyone. Look forward to getting in on this ERE25 action!

Motorola Droid :: ERE25 / Cannot Install Anything With Market?

Mar 4, 2010

Running Ultimate Droid 4.0.1 and tried going to 5.0, threw me into a bootloop, had to pull the battery and restore. Prior to this I was extremely stable, never an FC and OCd to 1ghz no problem running smooth 31-40C, can easily do 1.2ghz but I don't need the extra power. All with droidmod's kernel. So now after this debacle I can't even use the market, as anytime I try to install something I freshly download it FCs. (process com.android.vending). I did do a wipe in SPRecovery before restoring. Any way to fix this constant FCing? It is 100% reproducible. I don't want to give up all my appdata, and unfortunately I don't have titanium installed, I tried but as I stated before that I can't install anything with market.

Motorola Droid :: Why ESE81 Better Than ESE53 Or ERE25?

Apr 1, 2010

I understand that it is an update designed specifically for the Droid, but apart from having a Droid specific baseband (which can be flashed separately) is there actually any reason to base ROMs on ESE81 instead of ESE53 or ERE25?

Motorola Droid :: Ultimate Droid 5.0 (ERE25 Base)

Mar 3, 2010

I know there have been a lot of things said on this forum, and others, about blackdroid good and bad. That being said we all flash different Rom's because we want to see whats new and what fits us best. I have tried Ultimate Droid 5.0 (ERE25 Base) and it is very smooth with no FC's and runs extremely fast. Please dont turn this thread into a back and forth because that was not the reason I wanted to post this. I also want to give major props to ChevyNo1 for his amazing kernel (that my phone likes woo hoo). I know we all at this point have flashed many roms but I believe this is what I will stay with until something amazing comes out (senceUI, Flash....). Props to all the Developers for their hard work and giving us the many choices we have. General :: Upgrading To ICS And Restoring Applications?

Mar 19, 2012

I want to upgrade my SGS2 to ICS using one of the official firmwares, but I want to be able to restore certain apps and their associated data.

I can use Titanium Backup to backup and restore apps currently.

If I backed up these apps, upgraded to ICS (with a wipe install) and tried to restore these apps, would everything work out, will there be some gotchas due to changes in the Android versions?

HTC EVO 4G :: Restoring Applications After Rooting And Flashing Fresh?

Sep 28, 2010

Last night I rooted my Evo (Android 2.1) using Unrevoked 3.21, then flashed the new Fresh ROM and radios. I encountered several "gotchas" that may help others doing the same thing.

1. I had to try the Unrevoked program four times before the root "took". The first three times I got the message "Unable to obtain root. This happens sometimes" message. I would actually like to know (at least at a high level) why it failed the first three times. I tried it on a Win XP laptop the first two times, then switched to a Windows Vista machine, then back to my XP machine when it finally worked.

2. After verifying that my rooted Android 2.1 was working ok, I decided to flash the new Fresh ROM. First, I did a Titanium backup of everything on the phone, that went fast (although the Titanium interface could be improved. You have to go into the menu and select Batch to do the actual backup). As a fail-safe, I tried to do a backup of apps + data using MyBackup Pro. Unfortunately, it kept hanging on the app backup, so I just did a data backup. I also did an Astro backup of the apps, and (of course) I also did a nandroid backup of the current ROM (thanks to the good advice on this forum).

3. I then did a factory reset and cache wipe of the phone, then went ahead and flashed the latest Fresh ROM and radios. Both went very smoothly, I checked the version of the ROM and baseband in the phone settings and they match. Unfortunately, restoring the apps and data did NOT go smoothly at all. First, I discovered that Titanium doesn't seem to work as advertised. It didn't back up all my apps (I have over 150, guess that's a lot, but still!). A good example was Folder Organizer. It didn't get backed up so I had to re-download it. Next, Titanium didn't restore any of my data, SMS, call logs, home screen settings, nada. Fortunately, the MyBackup Pro data backup had almost all of that stuff, so I was able to get most of it back. The Astro backup was pretty useless the app list is not sorted by name (it uses the "com" package name") so it's virtually impossible to find what you're looking for. Lesson learned: if you've heavily customized your home screens, maybe flashing ROM's is not for you. If there's a better way to restore apps and settings after flashing, let us know!

4. Finally (and I believe this is a known issue) the FriendStream widget and Facebook contact linking is not working with this ROM.
At least I'm rooted now. Wireless tether works, the ROM works as advertised (scrolling and transitions are noticeably smoother due to the frame rate mod). I haven't had a chance to test 4G, I've got it turned on and will test around town. If it doesn't work then I'll restore the nandroid backup and go back to stock.

Android :: Restoring Applications On Replacement Phone?

Oct 15, 2010

I bought an Audubon Birds Field Guide app for my Droid X and installed it, in addition to a ton of other free apps. Unfortunately the Droid died and I got a new one from VZ. When I took the new DX to the VZ store to set it up the guy said I should be able to restore all the apps I had installed, including the one I bought, but none of them showed up on the phone. He was not really all that helpful and told me to contact Audubon about replacing the app. I just did that, but I am concerned that none of the apps I had already installed showed up on the new DX.

Motorola Droid :: Apps Not Restoring From Backup

Aug 30, 2010

Had issues with install of Watermark'D theme over CM6 rom. Finally got all that sorted but had to elect to install Google Apps separately after the fact. I restored backups of all my apps through Titanium Backup except for three - Tweetdeck, Weather Channel, and Yellowbook. Titanium would not restore them - I would click on install, it would try, then come back with an installation failed message. Went to both the market directly and Appbrain and attempted to install them from there. Found them listed but when I clicked on it to install got an item not found message. Tried to install Tweetdeck from the apk and got the same message as with Titanium. Oh and have downloaded other app from market successfully. Any ideas?

Like I was reloading a bunch of apps, and it prompted me for EACH APP. Is there a way to just press restore on a batch I backed up, and it just puts everything on the phone that I selected? It took a long time sitting there and pressing ok after each app.

Motorola Droid X :: Way To Facilitate Restoring Of Stuff After Wipe?

Oct 13, 2010

i noticed that the majority of ROMs (if not all of them) require you to wipe system/data/cache before you install. my understanding is that doing this will basically reset your phone back to what it was when you first got it. i want to install a ROM, but really don't want to have to go and install all my apps again and fix all the settings for each etc. i noticed in Titanium Backup that you can backup apps, system or both. if i were to back up both and then install the ROM, when the phone rebooted, could i just install Titanium Backup and restore apps and system? would return my phone to how it was before i wiped? if this is false, are there any other ways to facilitate the restoring of stuff after wipe?

Motorola Droid :: Restoring Data / Nandroid Vs Titanium Backup

Feb 23, 2010

I have a question regarding restoring data after flashing to a new ROM (Bugless Beast) via a nandroid backup. I know I have the update.zip option, but that seems to introduce issues for some that I want to avoid. Now, I know I have a few options. I can batch backup apps and data with Titanium Backup, then wipe, install the new build, and then restore via Titanium. Or, I can do a nandroid backup of my phone, wipe, install the new build, and then restore only the data partition of my first backup. My question is, are either of these methods any different from just using the update.zip version of BB? For example, when I upgraded from BB .7.8 to 1.0, I lost root and had to do a full wipe and I just manually reinstalled everything. Will doing the data partition restore or titanium backup restore result in the same issues?
