Motorola Droid :: Calendar Events Recurring More Than 30 Days
Dec 4, 2009I've been looking for a solution to an unusual problem, my work schedule repeats every 35 days.
When I used a windows device with outlook I could program in my rotation and make each day recur every 35 days. I could then look at my calendar and see on any given day of the year if I was off, or working nights, or days. The Google/Android calendar only offers recurring appointments up to 30 days, and won't sync with my version of outlook.
Does anyone know if the 12/11 update will include a sync option for all Outlook? Anyone know of a calendar app that will allow appointments to recur 35 days later? Is it possible to trick the Google calendar (or Yahoo, or Excite) to repeat at 35 days?
Motorola Droid : Error With System Update Two Days Ago
Apr 7, 2010I guess I'm one of the few that had glitches w/ the update. First the galery link on the front page didn't update and I kept getting "this application is not installed" error. I couldn't drag it over to the red waste basket...it kept changing back to gray and the faulty icon stayed on the main desktop. That evening while on hold to Verizon I "force fed" it by holding it over the waste basket longer, then added the new gallery app from the slider screen.
Also noted that the gold button on the r side no longer worked for the camera, it brings up a quick messaging screen instead. They determined the ONLY way to fix this is to reset the phone back to factory issue. Is there another way around this? Or if I have to, what's the best way to back up everything and keep track of the installed apps? I really don't want to reset the phone.
Motorola Droid X : Exchange Sync - Way To Control Number Of Days?
Sep 28, 2010Is there any way in the DroidX, running Froyo/2.2, to set the number of days back to sync / retain messages on an exchange email account? I could swear that I had set this in 2.1, but either the setting is gone now, or I can't seem to find it. Can anyone point me to that setting?

Nov 4, 2010[Droid X 2.2 No Root] For some reason sometimes when I'm using the camera or when I try to launch the camera, It fails. For example, I try to open a black screen flashes or the camera opens for a moment and closes. Sometimes it works, others it refuses to even after all running apps are closed, the phone restarted, and after a battery pull. This is not a shutter stick problem.

Aug 23, 2010Each evening i plug my Droid X into the charger and place it screen down on my night stand. Last week i woke up to my Droid playing a YouTube video from a website-a car chase with police which scared me awake and i tried to get it to stop playing which it did. I settled down and after a few minutes while trying to go back to sleep i heard the voice command asking me "which number?" and it began dialing some number. Well i stopped that and turned the phone off and on again and went back to sleep. Last night I heard it again asking me "which number" and it called my wife's cell phone!
Each incident happened around 3:30 AM.
Update:
This morning 09/17/2010 5:20 EST i was awakened by a video playing on my Droid X! When i go to sleep i place the X face down on the night stand whit the charger plugged in. Anyone else have this experience?
Has anyone experenced this or does my Droid X have a ghost ?

Dec 24, 2009Under Settings > Applications > Quick launch, you can setup hot keys to launch apps. I've tried it a few times, and it sure doesn't seem too efficient to me. And I'm a keyboard shortcut kinda guy. Just wondering if any of y'all found a use for this "feature".

Motorola Droid :: Launch By Default Settings?
Nov 12, 2009Last night I clicked a YouTube link sent by a friend through email. I got a notification window asking me if I wanted to open it in the browser or in the you tube App, along with a check box to always remember my answer. I picked one and hit the check box. Under the box it said if I wanted to change my settings to go to Home > Settings > Applications> Manage Applications to change the behavior.
However that specific menu item only contains apps I have downloaded. The YouTube app isn't there, and I had been coming up blank searching for where I can change the setting I chose last night.
When you go to Home > Settings > Applications> Manage Applications, by default its filter is set to just the apps you have downloaded, to see all apps on your droid, hit the menu button, and select filter, from here choose All to get to the app whose setting you want to change.

Motorola Droid X :: Way To Launch Home Dock Mode While In Car?
Sep 23, 2010To start, I'll say I've done much searching on my question, both on this forum and others. Plus, I've searched AppBrain using many parameters to no avail.So, that little disclaimer out of the way....I have a DX. My last device was the original Droid. After the upgrade to Froyo on my original Droid, I noticed two really cool and, for me, useful dock functions that do not work with the Froyo upgrade on my DX. Original Droid (w/Froyo): When I would put the Droid in the car dock, there was a nice little icon that said EXIT. Meaning it would go out of car dock completely when you touched it. Even the icon in the top bar would go away. Also, when I hit the home button, say out of Navigation, it would take me to my regular home, vice back to the car dock home. I LOVED this, as I dislike and do not use the car dock mode ever. This icon is non-existent on the Froyo car dock mode on my DX. Next. Again, original Droid (w/Froyo. and I state this because with Eclair, these functions were not there): When plugged in for the night, I would touch my Retro Clock app widget, and (I don't know why, it just did) it would launch the Home Dock screen. (with weather, music icon, etc...) Now this I LOVED also, as I could set my alarm, check the weather where I was at, and even get some news headlines before going to sleep. Plus, it would then go into screen saver mode, dimming the screen nicely. I would like very much to get this kind of functionality back in both instances. Does anyone have any ideas for apps that would kill the car dock mode completely, either permanently, or at least every time I put it in the car dock?And is there some way to launch the home dock mode while in the car dock?I am a truck driver, and the car dock is where I put my X to charge at night.

Oct 17, 2010I was watching TV, and playing with my phone, and saw a commercial that mentioned how you can launch certain apps and do certain actions via voice commands. I had forgotten about that frankly, and have only used it to navigate before. So I tried to launch a song. No go.
So, after a very brief google search, I found this:

I updated the voice search app (even though it didn't show up in market without the direct link), and tried again to launch a song. Again, no go.
Apparently it only works with online radio apps like Pandora. It doesn't work with the Music player that comes with the damn phone! I mean seriously, how stupid is it that you can't tell it to play a song from your SD card but you can call up a radio channel (and not actually get to hear that song)?
Motorola Droid :: How To Launch Multimedia Mode Without Dock?
Nov 8, 2009I bought the car dock and it has served me well thus-far, but I don't really see a reason to plunk down the cash on the home dock. It's nice, but I don't want to buy it right now. However, I do very much like the display that appears when it is docked. I can't find a way to launch this without the dock itself, and I'm certain there has to be a way. What am I missing?

Feb 22, 2010I am having a problem with my emails in the native Eris email app deleting after a few days. I have tried every setting that I can think of to get this to stop but no luck. The Gmail app does not delte the messages like the nmative app does. I have the native app set up with my work email and I need to keep messages around until I delete them. Just to stress have no problems with Gmail deleting just the native app which I have set up exclusively to my work email.

Jul 29, 2010My Gmail has not been syncing for several days. I've tried a battery pull a couple times, no luck.Under MENU>ACCOUNTS>MENU>SETTINGS>MANAGAE ACCTS, all looks fine, there's no errors. When I tap the SYNC NOW button, nothing. I guess the next step is to remove and re-add the account. I understand that'll wipe any data on the phone, such as pics and texts. A couple questions:
1. What else will I lose besides pics and texts?
2. Is there any way to back that stuff up/move it to the SD card?
3. Is there another fix to this syncing issue out there that won't wipe the phone?
HTC Droid Eris :: Sync More Calendar Days
Mar 19, 2010I'm using the stock HTC calendar application that comes on the Eris to sync with both my personal Google calendar and my Exchange calendar at work. I'm generally happy with the result except it only syncs about 2 weeks worth of events into the future. I would like to be able to see maybe 3 or so months worth of events on the Eris. I have plowed around in the settings and cannot locate anything that lets me choose how much of my Google & Exchange calendars to sync.

May 9, 2010I have a Milestone running Android 2.1
Initially, battery life was terrible, so bad I was considering returning the phone: with only K-9 email imap idle push email on in the background, and auto-sync off, I could get barely 7-8 hours of battery life, whereas with the Nokia e71 and Iphone 3gs I would get at least a day and a half, with comparable usage (push email, ca. 20 emails a day, 30 minutes of web browsing and 20 minutes of calls a day).
I then disabled background data, leaving the k-9 push email on, and now I get 2 days of battery life!
This is great, of course, but it also raises another question: what on Earth was going on in the background that was draining the battery? Thoughts?
Specifically, if you're interested in replicating my settings: I used 'any cut' to create a shortcut on the home screen to: settings -> account & sync. Once I untick 'background data', I can still use k-9 email, the browser, maps, etc, i.e. data-on-demand, if you will.
If I want to access the market, I enable backgr data again. If I want to sync contacts and calendar, I enable 'account sync' from the power control widget (which enables background data, too), and then, once done, I disable background data and account sync.
In k-9: menu -> folder list -> account -> settings -> background sync -> always. This way imap idle push works even when background data is off.
I then have a remember the milk widget (but Astrid is a valid free alternative) with manual sync, and a pure calendar widget with, again, auto sync off.
This is the best battery life I have ever had from a smartphone! But I am also curious to understand what was using data in the background and draining the battery so much... Having account sync off is a deal breaker for some, but for me it's ok: I don't update calendar and contacts every second, so the trouble of pressing a couple of buttons every now and then is well worth the extended battery life.
Motorola Droid :: How To Use Voice Search To Launch Specific Music?
Nov 6, 2009I'm wondering if anyone has been able to make Voice Search on the Droid launch the music player and play specific music. I went into "Settings", "Search", "Searchable items" under "Quick Search Box", and selected "Music Artists, albums, and tracks" so I think voice search can search the local device for music. Try as I may, I can't make search for music on the device. Admittedly, I'm used to the MS WinMo/Sync system where I can say something like "Play Artist Korn" (like in the commercial). I'm just wondering if I'm missing the "magic keywords" to make the voice search do what I want or am I just whistling dixie.This would come in VERY handy when the Droid is in the Car Dock (I HIGHLY recommend one of these btw.I just wish they'd integrated a power adapter with it.). That way, I can launch music via voice, and not plunk around with a very small icon on the screen.

Jun 29, 2010No, this is not a thread to bash the battery for the EVO. In fact if you do some research, you will notice that i have praised the EVO's battery in the past. Recently, however, my battery died on me on my trip to florida, and a sprint store in Daytona ordered me a new one. It is not the red EVO battery i have come to know, but a mere black one with the words 'HTC Innovations', and has the appearance of it looking used (some crud on it, which i still have not removed).
So my question is do batteries have good and bad days? I have not changed any settings on my phone, and i use to get a day out of it before it reaching 20%. Now im lucky to get 6 hours. Did i get a refurbished battery?

Oct 26, 2010I am trying to find a calendar app that will allow me to scroll through calendar days. The android app looks great but makes me crazy. If I am trying to schedule something more than a week out and want to be able to see all events day by day I have to click on a day then click out and then click on the next day. Is there a way I can just scroll?
