I don't know what I did, but it seems that my data synch is on non-stop. Maybe I never noticed before but in the notification bar, I see the recycle arrow icon just to the left of 3G and I can't seem to turn it off and my battery is running out faster than normal and the phone is very hot. I have used the Power Widget to power cycle (turn on/off) the data sync to no avail...

I hadn't charged my Droid in two days (yep, still working with GPS and WiFi on), so I thought I'd see how the phone alerted me that the battery was almost dead. When the LED began to flash red, the screen lighted up showing the lock screen with a notification that the battery has less than 10% charge remaining.
However, the screen would not turn off. It stayed illuminated, even after I (briefly) pushed the power button.
If I had wanted to preserve battery power, my only choice was to completely power off the phone.
This is the only situation I've encountered when the screen doesn't shut off after a period of inactivity. Also the only instance when it doesn't shut off when the power button is pressed. And it's probably the only situation where one would want these actions to occur to prevent faster battery drainage.
What have others noticed when their battery is dying?
My Motorola Droid has been working fine until yesterday. Now it is very slow, keeps forcing close and my battery keeps dying. I noticed it starting happening after getting a couple of apps updates yesterday (for a shopping list app and anti-virus app). Don't know if that is a coincidence or if it has something to do with it.I also have the sync symbol up in the toolbar by the battery, 3G symbol, etc and I don't recall it being there before the problems either. I turned off auto sync but this did not help.

I have not downloaded any new apps, and have hardly any apps that would take up battery life honestly. Any ideas on what to do? Or is it just time to go into Verizon and see what they say?

I have had the droid rooted for some time now and it seems since day one my battery life decrease more and more and i take more widgets and time off my phone but it still is terrible. I also realize that batteries die after some time so I'm wondering if anyone has this problem. I have had the droid pretty much since the day it came out and the battery hasn't been the best. should i get a new battery? would that solve it? maybe its just worn down from being with the phone since the beginning.

Yesterday I plugged it into my notebook and work desktop and it was at 50%. Left it there for a while, came back and was still at 50%. Tried it while mounted and not mounted. Yet, I Plug it into CLA and Home dock all the time and charges fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOk, I have had a Motorola Droid since they released the phone and my battery has been great. I could charge it overnight and take it off the charger around 6:30 am and when I put it back on the charger around 9 - 10 pm at night I would still have anywhere from 50% to higher battery life and this is after very heavy usage.
Beginning a few days ago I noticed that my Droid battery indicator is showing almost completely drained out by 6 pm and I really used my phone lightly yesterday and today. Today and yesterday both, the red LED was blinking and the battery indicator was showing almost completely dead by 6 pm. I pulled up the battery usage on the phone and it is showing the 'browser' as the biggest battery hog for some reason. Today it was showing 81% of the battery usage was from the browser. I hardly, if at all, used the browser today. I also checked the firmware version and it is showing 2.0.1, which I never updated it myself.
Are there any suggestions about why the browser would be draining the battery down so bad, when the browser has not even been used? Is there a way to close out the browser so it doesn't continue sucking the battery dry, besides using an app killer program?I did search the forum and did not see a specific question/answer to my question. I know I had read that some people were seeing battery issues after upgrading to 2.0.1, but I did not upgrade my phone, it must have done it.
This happened yesterday before I charged the battery from the store so I accepted it, however, today not so much.
The battery seems to hold off fine, but then as soon as the battery hits about 35%, it goes into a free fall until finally - minutes later - the 5% warning pops up and all of the sudden the phone shuts off and has to be charged to above 10% before it will even turn on.
Has anyone noticed this on their new Droid X (After the primary charge)?

With my old Symbian-phone I am using the Funambol-services and SyncML - which works very well. I tried to import all my contact details to Google-contacts now. But unfortunately Google does not provide own fields for street, zip and city but a single address field only. Is this the same for the DROID/Android2 - or are there fields for zip and city also? Do you have any recommendations how to handle this? I noticed that the development of Funambol client (SyncML) is stalled. So there is no chance to synchronize the DROID by SyncML, correct?

View 2 Replies View RelatedOriginally, when I got my Moment, I had it set up to Auto-Sync my Gmail, Contacts and Calendar. I noticed (especially when managing contacts on my phone) that when I made any changes to a contact, the auto-sync would begin, in turn, freezing up the whole contact app/module. It would freeze for about 30 seconds until the sync was complete.
This would also happen with the Gmail app. So I turned off auto-sync a couple weeks ago, and every time I go into Gmail, I just go to Menu, Refresh. But it's a pain when I get a call saying, "Hey, did you get my email?". So I'm thinking of using IMAP for Gmail now, but I'd rather find out if anyone else is having this issue, or if there's a workaround.
I was wondering if the weather app that Moto has built in still uses the same amount of battery/data regardless of whether or not it is on the home screen. I took the widget off the home screen and stopped the weather process and it just comes back anyway. So the weather process is still running in the background. I'd like to use the weather widget, but don't want to deal with battery drain. Bad enough my phone has reset itself twice in the last 24 hours.

I thought I'd pass this new data to the activity as a message to the activity's handler. Now, my question is: how can I make sure that the activity has finished drawing the page and is ready to show the message data? The data might come from the cache, so I'm worried the message may land in the handler before the page is ready to display it. Is there a way to synchronize the page draw and the message handling? E.g., is it possible to suspend the looper till the page is ready? What's the preferred way of doing what I'm trying to do?

I looked around on the net and found a tip that said to turn off the Background Data option, so I did that, but I find this to be a very convenient feature. I'm just wondering if there's some sort of app or widget that will let me quickly toggle the Background Data option on and off for a quick sync to push all of my stuff in whenever I want it.

I need to shut down the service on background.Except the service restarts itself over and over again! Even if I kill the program from task manager the service restarts itself. Other programs aren't using the service. when I uninstalled the program the foreground program information popped up indicating it was STILL there(albeit this I solved by rebooting phone).
When user says he's finished with the program 'least he can expect is for the program to stay down rather than keep eating battery by acquiring GPS signal and sending them to server. The program is not intended to be "once you log in you need to Uninstall me and reboot phone to get rid of me!" type of program!

When the phone in vibrate mode I use the following code to stop the phone vibration:

While it worked on my Nexus One with android 2.1, it seems that it doesn't stop the vibration on an HTC Desire handset with android 2.1.

Just wondering if there is anyway to set my phone in such a way that my ring tone will turn off when I open the phone (either unlock/ do anything to the phone). As it is right now my ring tone (a full mp3 song imported from my pc) will play until I drag down my notification bar. I'm using tone picker and handcent sms if it makes any difference.
Also, is there a way to edit the the keyboard input sound when typing with the stock keyboard?
I just signed up for these forums because soon I will be an HTC Desire owner in Canada. Having never owned a smartphone before I do have a few questions. The plan I intend on signing up for is the Telus Student 40 and that will come with only 100mb of data. Now I don't see myself being too data using heavy so I feel like I will be able to live with it. However I do have some questions regarding my data consumption.
1. Is it possible to completely stop all data usage by somehow disabling the data connection if I find myself reaching my limit?
2. What are ways to track my data usage to make sure I don't use too much data?
3. What are good ways to conserve data usage? I'm getting the feeling that there are some applications that will constantly be sending data back and forth updating themselves, is it possible to have these applications but stop them from constantly updating and only have them update when I want to access the application?.........
