HTC Eris :: Battery Dying Ridiculously Quick
Jul 26, 2010
I am having problems with my battery dying ridiculous quick. So A) If I do a battery reset in recovery am I going to lose any information or does it just erase the battery memory like it says. B) Does that really do anything or is it just a myth?

I have an HTC Droid Eris which I LOVE, but yesterday and today my battery has been getting very low/dying just hours after charging it all through the night, which I do every night. I have not downloaded any new apps, and have hardly any apps that would take up battery life honestly. Any ideas on what to do? Or is it just time to go into Verizon and see what they say?

I updated last week to 4.0.4 last week on an unrooted galaxy S2 and since the phone will just die at random moments even with 100% battery power and when I switch it back on it will be critically low and will need charging....I have done a factory reset but it hasn't worked..

I've had Eris since last Christmas, so I say it's been almost 9 months or so. The biggest complain I have with this phone is how ridiculously slow the phone is. I was getting really tired of all the lags that the phone had. The major lags that made me very impatient were: 1. Phone dial lag 2. GPS lag (I had to wait 25 seconds for options to pop out after pressing "menu" button while the GPS was on.) 3. Whenever phone call comes in, it shows the digits first, and 7 seconds later, the names appeared. None of these problems were solved even after getting the phone replaced twice. I called the Verizon to see if I could get a replacement with another phone, however even after 5 attempts with various of speech techniques (even I've gotten upto a point where the rep offered me to switch to another phone) the answer was "No, you are stuck with that phone regardless whether you like it or not. Eventually the universal rooting method came along and I've rooted my phone. Code...

I hadn't charged my Droid in two days (yep, still working with GPS and WiFi on), so I thought I'd see how the phone alerted me that the battery was almost dead. When the LED began to flash red, the screen lighted up showing the lock screen with a notification that the battery has less than 10% charge remaining.
However, the screen would not turn off. It stayed illuminated, even after I (briefly) pushed the power button.
If I had wanted to preserve battery power, my only choice was to completely power off the phone.
This is the only situation I've encountered when the screen doesn't shut off after a period of inactivity. Also the only instance when it doesn't shut off when the power button is pressed. And it's probably the only situation where one would want these actions to occur to prevent faster battery drainage.
What have others noticed when their battery is dying?

I don't know what I did, but it seems that my data synch is on non-stop. Maybe I never noticed before but in the notification bar, I see the recycle arrow icon just to the left of 3G and I can't seem to turn it off and my battery is running out faster than normal and the phone is very hot. I have used the Power Widget to power cycle (turn on/off) the data sync to no avail...

My Motorola Droid has been working fine until yesterday. Now it is very slow, keeps forcing close and my battery keeps dying. I noticed it starting happening after getting a couple of apps updates yesterday (for a shopping list app and anti-virus app). Don't know if that is a coincidence or if it has something to do with it.I also have the sync symbol up in the toolbar by the battery, 3G symbol, etc and I don't recall it being there before the problems either. I turned off auto sync but this did not help.

So my church is a cell-phone black hole.No 3G and barely 1x.They changed the password on the WiFi recently so until someone leaks it to me, my phone is near useless in the building. This stinks as I spent a considerable amount of time there over probably 4 days a week, so stinks to be me.That said, I've noticed that on days I spent a lot of time at church, my battery life is poor. Last Sunday however, I noticed my Droid/battery was HOT when I left church and by the time I got home, it was down below 20% battery life. Was full when I awoke (media dock) so this all happened in just a few hours, most of which it was unused.I returned that evening for some children's events and it dropped again to 20% in just another 2 hours in the building.

Anyone seeing an issue where they charge to 100% percent overnight, pull the phone off the charger and see a very quick drop to 90%?I know the HTC Evo had this problem, and it seems like my phone is doing as well.I charge it all night, pull it off the charger and surf for like 10 minutes and the battery level plummets to 90%.Its interesting to note that if you charge the phone to 100%, turn it off and charge it, the battery indicator will display 90% and take about 10 mins to get to 100%.you then turn it on and charge it, the battery will be at 90% and will take another 10 minutes of charging to reach 100%.This is basically the HTC charging trick. After doing the charge while on/charge while off cycle several time, the battery will truly be at 100%. The problem is, I dont really want to do this every time I charge my phone.

So I have had my phone since before launch and I have noticed the battery drain as others have but here is my question. Do you think it is the battery or the phone?
If I can go to the store and just get a new battery that would be nice because I have rooted and customized and downloaded apps and if it is the battery that is causing the problem it would be so much more convenient to get a new battery.

I've noticed many threads on the volume levels of the HTC Desire, all to do with the speaker volume for music, notifications and alarms. I have no problems with these, they're perfectly acceptable to me. However, the in call volume on this phone is ridiculously low, if there is any noise in the room at all I can't hear a thing and this is with the volume maxed. Using headphones or the speakerphone it is fine. Is there a fix to increase the in call volume beyond the current maximum?

I'm still new to Sprint.. I used to be a Verizon guy for 8 years. And I'm used to send and receive pictures with the original resolution they were taken. But I've notice that Everytime I get a Pic msg with my moment they're ridiculously resized. Same thing happens if I send one they get a crappy sized pic.
Is there a way around it?
Is it sprint?
Or is it Android?

Across all three of my devices; Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S3, and Nexus 4, my download speeds for downloading and updating apps on the Google Play Store have been unbearably slow, taking 20+ minutes to download 5mb. Only while using wifi though. HSPA+ data through T-Mobile is quick and painless.
I have Verizon Fios as my ISP. I've seen numerous other threads complaining about this issue across the Web but none offer any type of explanation or solution. While restarting the router/modem alleviates the problem for a few minutes, it's no use..
Also, might I add that YouTube has been unusable as well do to awful buffering. I think there may be a conflict between Fios and Google's servers. Whatever this is, I'm getting fed up. I can't download or update any apps on my Nexus 4 that I just got today, not to mention on any of my devices at all.
I know it's not my Internet, speed tests reveal 20megs down and 5 up across all three devices and general Internet usage is awesome. Only YouTube and the Play Store have been affected.

I use Handcent to text, and it seems to lag alot. I'm not the fastest typer in the world, so I'm not sure why this is, but it always takes a few seconds to show up what I've typed and it used to be instant. Is there something I can do to make it quick again?

1. Which Word version is compatible with QuickOffice on Eris? i saved a document in Word 2007 and manually put it in my phone, found it with Astro but was not able to open it and view it. 2. When QuickOffice saves a document, or PDF ( is QO responsible for opening those also?), where on the card does it save it to? Which folder?

I honestly could not think of a good title. Sorry. Anyway, so I have an app that I am making where I pull information from my custom web api. I pull data from the api and fill in the layout with this information. Problem is it takes a while so the app stalls for a few seconds before the information is pulled since it is in the onCreate method of the activity. To resolve this I implemented a loading dialog. This is where the problems began. I put the http requests into a seperate thread and it downloads fine. No problem. However it keeps force closing every time I try to modify the layout afterward. So basically my question is how do I modify the layout after the background thread is finished? Everything I try keeps force closing the app.

This problem has been solved! Thanks a lot to Brad, Denis and junkie! You're the heroes! This is the working code. It connects to Zeemote and reads data from it.I'm trying to connect to a Zeemote (http://zeemote.com/) gaming controller from Moto Droid running 2.0.1 firmware. The test application below does connect to the device (LED flashes) but connection is dropped immediately after that. I'm pasting two test apps below: one that actually tries to read from input stream and second one that just sits there, waiting for the device to disconnect after 5 seconds. And yes, I do have third version :) which first waits for ACL_CONNECTED and then opens socket but there's nothing new in its behavior. Some background info:I can connect to the Zeemote from my laptop perfectly fine using bluez tools (log attached as well). I know for sure that Droid is able to talk to Zeemote as well because 'Game Pro' from the Market works fine with it (but then it's a driver/service so maybe it uses lower-level API?).I noticed that 'adb bugreport' reports neither UUID nor RFCOMM channel for Zeemote while it does so for all other devices (including Moto HS815 headset, another dumb device for which 'sdp browse' reports nothing). Also, when the device boots, Zeemote's priority is 0 (others have priority 100+).I'm quite at a loss here, I worked on it for so long that I ran out of ideas so any help would be very much appreciated (even if you don't know the answer

I posted this at another forum as well. I am not spamming, I just want to sell this because I no longer need it. I'm not sure if this is in the correct area, I am sorry if it is in the wrong area, but I am selling an Eris battery that I bought as an extra. I swapped out to a Droid and forgot about the battery. It was put on our bill, so it's paid for and I would like to pass some savings on to a member here. I only used this battery twice, two days. Asking $25.00 with shipping included to US addresses only. Paypal only on this as well.
