Motorola Droid :: Wiping / Restarting - Best Root?

Sep 23, 2010

My phone has been getting tons of FC and has now been freezing randomly. I reset all it's stuff using the retsart and X function. I now have to reactivate my phone (1:47am so i assume i gotta wait a bit) Cause it wont let me right now, i'm assuming their offices closed. After i activate my phone n such, what is a good ROM or link showing me the best root?

Motorola Droid :: Flashing But Not Wiping

Apr 21, 2010

I rooted and became, as many of the rest of you have, addicted to flashing new ROMS. I get the feeling that this addiction will need to be fed more and more as leaks of 2.2 start poking out since it is now rumored to be coming. However, this causes an issue for me. My company was very reluctant to let me move away from the blackberry and to the Droid and have recently decided that I have to use the Goodlink Enterprise app for email. If/when I do a data/cache wipe because I've changed ROMS I cannot re-activate the email without my IT department generating a new PIN for me.

General :: How To Remove Existing Google Account Without Wiping And No Root

Sep 5, 2012

My phone was just stolen and so I am temporarily using an older Gingerbread device I had laying around. The problem is that my wife used it for a period of time and so its "locked" to her Google account. I realize that with root its fairly easy to disassociate the device from the primary Google account, but I have been unable to find out how to do it WITHOUT root. I really don't want to fully wipe the device if possible! The phone in question is running 2.3.4.

Motorola Droid :: Wiping / Resetting And Rooting Phone?

Jun 27, 2010

my phone was running really slow. it lost that new phone feel. so i decided that i was going to wipe the phone and start fresh. once, i decided to do that, i then figured why the hell not and rooted the phone.

when i wiped/reset my phone i expected that everything would be gone. i did this by holding "x" and power and then chose to wipe from there. i also chose to wipe the cache partition too. well after i rebooted, i noticed my custom wallpaper and a bunch of applications were still installed on my phone??? the reason i wanted to do this was to get rid of everything and start fresh...but all these apps were still there. did i not wipe the phone correctly?

- next i installed sprecovery on my phone. that went fine.
- i then wiped it again and installed JRummys cyanogen remix 5.0.7.1.
- Right off the bat, my phone is running slower than ever. When exiting from an app by hitting the home screen, sometime i just get a blank screen that sits there for a few seconds before my icons pop up. what gives?.............

Motorola Droid :: Get Phone Back To Receive Updates Without Wiping All My Text?

Feb 9, 2010

After reading that 2.1 is "supposed" to drop this week, I have a rooted droid running Beast 7.4 which has the OTA disabled. Is there a way to get the phone back to being able to receive the update without wiping all my text/e-mail/call logs/pics? I'm guessing it would require moving to a different ROM or just back to the original 2.0.1 update...but I'm not clear how to do it. If anyone can post a link or explain it in non-Linux lingo, I would greatly appreciate it! I just don't want to have to revert back to the original 2.0.1 and lose everything...don't care about the apps because I can just re-install those.

Motorola Droid :: Get Overclocking Abilities Without Installing A Custom ROM And Wiping The SD Card?

Jun 13, 2010

I've been reading up on rooting/overclocking and the like, and I've made the decision I want to try to overclock. It just seems like it's not running as good as it should be for a phone of its caliber. Killing apps seems to be the only way to improve the speed of the phone, and I think it's unnecessary to have to kill apps every time I do something on my phone. Some people have said that uninstalling app killers and not worrying about running apps has made their phone faster, and I tried that but it was running even more sluggishly than before. So if I overclock to 800-1000 and not kill apps, would I see a noticeable increase in performance? I usually run either PandaHome or just stock Home, and I may install something like BB if I get tired of home replacements, but I don't want to install a ROM at the moment, only if it's necessary.

And I have a few questions before I get started:
I've read a couple threads about rooting/overclocking, and none of them seem to say if it's possible to just get a kernal and overclocking abilities without installing a ROM and wiping the SD card, so is it possible to ONLY get overclocking abilities without installing a custom ROM and wiping the SD card?

Motorola Droid :: Randomly Restarting All The Time

Feb 4, 2010

I've had my Droid for a little over 60 days, and I've recently started seeing what I consider a Major issue. This aside, I Love my Droid, but I've been ready to throw it through a wall lately. It's been restarting at LEAST 10, maybe even up to 20 times a day. I uninstalled every app I had on it to see if maybe it was an app causing the problem. I hadn't downloaded any new ones before I started noticing it, but it was worth exploring.

So far, it hasn't helped at All. It's still randomly restarting all the time. I don't even have to do anything with it. It's restarted 4 times in a row just sitting on my lap while I was driving home. I've heard my "Droid" notification and checked it, seeing that it was preparing the SD card. I've left it sitting and came back to it to find it's not running any of the pages I had up when I last put it down, etc.

I've tried refreshing each account, but it doesn't do anything until I turn off the phone and then turn it on again. Is there another way to restart the email services without restarting the phone? Motorola Droid :: Phone Rooted - Keeps Restarting And No Recovery Mode

So the other day I rooted my phone and it just keeps restarting on me. Cant get into recovery mode or anything. Now I gotta send this phone back to Verizon and I don't want to send it back with it being rooted cause I don't want to get charged for the phone. Now my question is how can I mess up my phone so Verizon don't know that I rooted my phone. This may sound dumb but I kinda need a way to fry it or something like that.

Motorola Droid :: Root 2.1 -> OTA 2.2 -> Lost Root But Superuser Permission Icon Still Appears

Aug 11, 2010

Here is the scenario:
Motorola Droid - Original

1. Rooted 2.1, then
2. OTA Stock Update to 2.2, then
3. Seem to have lost root, However - I still have the Superuser Permissions Icon.

I use Barnacle for WiFi Tether - I get a "Permission Denied" error when I try to start the application. I also went into the terminal emulator and tried an "su" which also gave a permission denied response. I tried "sudo" and also got permission denied response. Others have told me this is common with this progression of events. However, How do I now ROOT 2.2 in this scenario?

Motorola Droid :: Root Problems - App - No Root Access

May 10, 2010

I'm trying to gain root and having some problems...

I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.

After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:

http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html

to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?

Motorola :: Need Step By Step Wiping DroidX Instructions

Aug 11, 2010

Got a lot of funky, annoying little things going on, I think it may be time to wipe my DX and start over again. No contact data to worry about, I use MS Exchange Server. Got some purchased apps including Touchdown so I definitely want to preserve those with minimal issues in reloading them without having to purchase them again. I use ADW as my launcher, it would nice to save those settings. Is there a step by step guide or instructions for doing this? I've done this 4 or 5 times over the years with PC's, can't imagine this should be that difficult with the DX.

Android :: App Wiping TMO G1 Phones Clean

Jan 26, 2009

January 26, 2009, 11:00 am by Ben Sillis 1 comment Filed under Mobile phones Tags: Android, android market, app, app store, Apple, G1, Google, HTC, T-Mobile, T-mobile G1 Watch out, T-Mobile G1 owners: a dodgy app that appears to be wiping phone memories has made its way onto the Android Market. The open source nature of Android has come back to bite Google, with what may be the first piece of malware finding its way onto the Android Market.

MemoryUp is supposedly designed to clean up the T-Mobile G1?s memory, but it?s being a bit too vigorous and wiping the internal memory of the G1 as well as the inserted SD card in some cases. One user, ?kr33p1n?, complains that it ?Doesn?t work at all erased my phone numbers and froze my phone,? and many others seem to be in agreement, with the program clocking up several hundred one star ratings already. So, a devious Windows Mobile, BlackBerry Storm or Palm Pre employee behind it? Or just some jerk cranking out cackhanded code? We don?t know, but all of a sudden, Apple?s closed App Store and opaque approval process seem very enticing.........

HTC Incredible :: Unroot Phone Without Wiping

I currently have a rooted Droid Incredible and want to upgrade to the latest VZW OTA update in order to get the new features (aka, 720p recording). All of the methods I've seen require wiping the phone in order to unroot it (ie. Root & Unroot your Droid Incredible now! | Gadgets DNA) Is there a different way to unroot the phone without wiping it back to the stock Incredible ROM?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Wiping With Cyanogens 6.0

Aug 22, 2010

According to several statements and threads by several people: Froyo has a built-in feature that if you wipe it will RETAIN your apps (at least some of them). So if you are having issues with an app, and you wipe and re-flash, that app may still be there with the same issues. I have already experienced this. As far as I know, no other ROM has this issue.

While the phone is booted:

1. Menu>Privacy>Factory data reset
2. Go into recovery
3. Completely wipe everything and I do mean EVERYTHING
4. Move ROM back over to Sd card and flash it
