View 11 RepliesI don't know why but I have everything there after update to froyo but nothing that needs root will work. Su is there but root explorer or WiFi will not work.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI've been reading about android 2.2 coming out with Flash 10 support. I haven't seen an official date yet but it sounds like it's coming very soon. I've been running BB v1.0 and love it. That being said, I want this new update asap but I don't want to lose root. Is there going to be any BB or similar rom using the update? I've read Google has the code under wraps. Root users had all the benefits of ese53 weeks before 2.1 was distributed, will we see a repeat or are root users going to need to wait for custom roms or risk losing root when 2.2 comes?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI tried the easy root instructions here:
How to: Root DROID X Running Official Android 2.2 - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog
when the bat was running, it kept telling me that adb was not a valid command.
The entire process only took 30 seconds or so.
I suspect adb is not installed, or the sdk is not installed completely. My phone still is on, and appears normal, and is still plugged into the pc.
How can I check to see if it is indeed rooted, and if not, how to I install adb (link?) so it does root properly?
Well I have been seeing all these new posts on phandroid about the new motorola droid x and my upgrade isn't until '12. So all I'm asking is what is the best videos that you guys have seen to root and overclock the droid. Also how to put froyo on it. Just trying to get my version of a droid x.
View 2 Replies View RelatedBeen holding of rooting & upgrading to one of the custom froyo roms untill the offical release of froyo for desire. Quick question are we ok to root after this new froyo update or will the new froyo update patch this proccess in someway to prevent us from doing us ....? if so i may do now so i dont lose ability to root.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI still have rooting on 2.1 but every time I run 2.2 (with the superuser icon), I try to run a program like setcpu (y'know because I thought I was rooted) or any other program that requires root. It still doesn't work and says "no rooted access detected". I load up the superuser app no messages or anything just a black screen. I've tried the "update.zip fix" about 20x and still nothing. Am I doing the update wrong or something? Cause reboot in recovery with clockwork mod and hit "apply update.zip".
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust got my DX yesterday and have been reading up on the various droid forums and stumbled across this little gem of information and people. I think I've developed a plan of attack for rooting it to eventually end up on Froyo 2.3.13.
1. Root the phone using universalandroot
Should I make a backup of my 2.1 using TiBu or ROM Manager, or does it not really matter considering I'd need to be on 2.1 to restore?
2. Update to Froyo 2.2 using this thread Is it safe to assume that I'll have adb after using "universalandroot"?
3. Update to Froyo 2.3.13 using this thread
4. Load one of the marvelous looking themes (I hadn't seen any issues, but anyone on 2.3 yet having issues with themes for 2.2?)
Also, I heard/read that the Swype keyboard changes when switching from 2.1 to 2.2. Is there any way to keep the 2.1 black fat key look or is it inevitable to switch to the, from what I've read, smaller white keyboard? Clarification on that rumor would be fantastic. I have experience flashing my old i910 (Original Sammy Omnia), and am terribly excited to get on the droid bandwagon now, just want to make sure that my plan seems feasible and that if there's anything else I should know, I'd greatly appreciate advice now. Is my list too simplistic, because it seems after reading everything, that I may be oversimplifying things, but figured I'd check with some of you experts before I go bork my phone on my own.
I'll admit, I don't know much about rooting at all, so i've been lurking around here getting an idea of how to go about it. I'm pretty tech savvy, so it's nothing over my head, I'm just unfamiliar with it.I'm really unhappy with Motorola's latest droid x update. Updating to Froyo seems to have just made my phone significantly slower, the rotation is less responsive, etc. (the 2.3.15 update) All I would really want to do is, I'd want to root the phone and just load a stock Froyo ROM onto here. No extra moto or verizon BS, just the stock OS and whatever apps I want on it. Does that make sense? How would I go about doing that?
View 8 Replies View RelatedYes i recently had to flash my phone back to 2.1 which i did in a flash then i waited till it did a normal update to which i though would be FRG1B but to my surprise it was FRG22. Now i installed Easy Root and tried rooting it said it worked but it didn't so then i tried Universalandriodroot and it didn't work either. Now i tried to flash back to 2.1 and then just root from there but this is were my problem happens. When i try to Flash i do the normal plug up usb and restart phone and while waiting on it to boot hold up on the D Pad and Nothing happens i did this 15 times it will not go into the menu at all.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been wanting to root my phone for a while, but I haven't had the bills to do it. I saw unrevoked released what looks like a fail proof way of doing it and I'm seriously considering taking the plunge. I'm debating whether or not to root it now or wait to see if this "possible" froyo update comes out later this month.
View 9 Replies View RelatedNo one knows do they? Iam waiting for froyo before I root. Better safe than sorry.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a desire which is updated to froyo and has the new 2.10.405.2 update which is OTA installed on it ( not to sure what the update was for something about RUS keyboard) anyway I was wondering if any of this will effect me rooting my phone and if it is worth rooting seeing as I already have froyo with sense but I was thinking stick vanilla froyo on there to make it faster or a different rom, will doing this make my phone faster and less prone to crashing sense all the time which is what happens now.
Also any risks involved with rooting froyo? Also I have a fully unbranded desire and can sumone suggest a good rom to flash?
I updated to Froyo really early along on my DX and am pretty sure I'm using the first leak still. My phone constantly locks up/overheats and I have to battery pull to get it working again. I would like to get the most updated Froyo which hopefully doesn't lock me up anymore and also root it again.
What is the best way to do this without actually knowing which version of Froyo I am using? I don't mind losing all of my data and starting over, but the locking up is just becoming way to frequent. I have it in my head that if I flash back to 2.1 stock and do the OTA, then do the root again it would be much smoother. Am I on the right track? I really stepped away from the root scene for a while after I rooted mine so I am lost.
Since I rooted my phone on Monday my LPP Facebook widget isn't updating in a timely fashion (like 24 behind right now), my Gmail doesn't automatically refresh, and my corporate mail is at least 24 hours behind.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI am not responsible if this does not work for your case or if you damage your phone in any way. This information is provided to attempt to help other people in the community that were having the same issues I was for the OTA. The way I did my OTA and got root back is this: (simplified version)
- install unrevoked 3, and unrevoked forevor (s-off)
- wait for OTA message
- click install later
- reboot into recovery
- do nand backup
- find and download stock 2.1 recovery zip file
http://adrynalyne.us/?p=41 (stock recovery is here)
- find and download (to a different location) clockworks mod zip file
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
(near the bottom of the page)
- place stock 2.1 recovery file on root of sd card
- reboot into hboot
- hboot will ask to install recovery update
- click yes
- reboot back to OS
- wait for OTA message
- click install now
- wait for 10-30 minutes while phone does OTA update
- place clockworksmod zip file onto root of sd card (overwriting/deleting the 2.1 stock zip file in the process)
- reboot into Hboot
- when asked allow hboot to update recovery again
- reboot phone
- uninstall any old super user program you had on your phone
- install this new one using the information on this link

You should now have wonderful froyo with root!
I have followed every guide that I can find. I cannot get my phone to either receive the OTA update and I cannot get it to update manually. This is the error that I get:
assert failed: file_getprop ("/system/build.prop","ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon/inc/inc/inc:2.1-update1/ERE27/161494:user/release-keys" || file.getprop ("/system.build.prop","ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/231334:user/release-keys
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I had a stock Incredible that I rooted with Unrevoked3. I then ran Unrevoked Forever on it and then downgraded to remove root. I placed the 2.2 Update on the sdcard and went through the recovery menu to select it and then try to install it. The above error is what I get everytime I try to update. This is also the same error I got when I tried to accept the OTA when I was rooted (in my grogginess in the morning when I woke up and saw the OTA, I just kept hitting ok having completely forgotten about my phone being rooted). I don't know much about coding other than the little I use to do with Java/C++/HTML in school, but what I am getting out of this is my phone does not like the 2.2 update file. I am assuming that it may have an MD5 Hash in verifying/installing the file that it does not like?
So I just rooted my HTC desire but I didn't install a new ROM. Why you may ask because all I wanted to do is install most apps to my SD card because my SD card getting full. I didn't install a ROM because I found out that froyo was not offering this and I had not updated to it but when I try to update I get a quarter of the way thought installing when the bar disappears and a yellow triangle appears behind the android.
I suspect this is because of root. I would very much like to keep with OTA updates if possible. So what would you recommend I do? Proceed with unrooting or update with a RUU or something else?
(FYI I called Talus (my carrier) and they said if the OTA update dose not work after I do a factory reset (already tried) then I could send it in for repair, so I would assume that would reset all the software on my phone thus not being rooted. Would this be an option as my phone is under warranty or would stock ROM but rooted still void it?
Not sure why but I apparently can no longer litsen to my Voange voicemail which comes attached to the email as a wav file. Not sure if it is a Froyo thing or a Chevy4.6 rom thing.

Motorola Droid - Original
1. Rooted 2.1, then
2. OTA Stock Update to 2.2, then
3. Seem to have lost root, However - I still have the Superuser Permissions Icon.
I use Barnacle for WiFi Tether - I get a "Permission Denied" error when I try to start the application. I also went into the terminal emulator and tried an "su" which also gave a permission denied response. I tried "sudo" and also got permission denied response. Others have told me this is common with this progression of events. However, How do I now ROOT 2.2 in this scenario?
I used DroidMod to root when I had 2.01. When 2.1 became available, I "un-rooted" then forced update to 2.1. Well to be honest, it is really slow and laggy. I now want to go back to DroidMod, but nothing I have tried seems to work.

Sorry, I had my noob goggles on this morning and accidentally applied the OTA update after I did the baseband update so now I've lost root. I know, I know... that update file should never have been on my sd card to start with.
I did a backup with ROMmanager prior to these updates, but can't do anything with it now. Just need to root again so life can continue.
Is it true that after the 2.1 update that you will not be able to root?
