Motorola Droid :: Wiping / Resetting And Rooting Phone?

Jun 27, 2010

my phone was running really slow. it lost that new phone feel. so i decided that i was going to wipe the phone and start fresh. once, i decided to do that, i then figured why the hell not and rooted the phone.

when i wiped/reset my phone i expected that everything would be gone. i did this by holding "x" and power and then chose to wipe from there. i also chose to wipe the cache partition too. well after i rebooted, i noticed my custom wallpaper and a bunch of applications were still installed on my phone??? the reason i wanted to do this was to get rid of everything and start fresh...but all these apps were still there. did i not wipe the phone correctly?

- next i installed sprecovery on my phone. that went fine.
- i then wiped it again and installed JRummys cyanogen remix 5.0.7.1.
- Right off the bat, my phone is running slower than ever. When exiting from an app by hitting the home screen, sometime i just get a blank screen that sits there for a few seconds before my icons pop up. what gives?.............

Motorola Droid :: Keeps Resetting At Moto Icon On Restart After Rooting

Feb 13, 2010

I rooted my Droid today for the first time. The first time it turned on after installing the new ROM it kept resetting after the MOTO icon would come up.It was doing this for quite a while and I kept removing the battery and powering off and on and then finally it started up.Phone was running great after that and was OCing at 800.Used it for about 5 hours like this. Then I went to set up OC profiles and hit refresh and now the phone keeps resetting at Moto icon again and hasn't turned back on.Is there something I can do to fix this?

Motorola Droid :: Get Phone Back To Receive Updates Without Wiping All My Text?

Feb 9, 2010

After reading that 2.1 is "supposed" to drop this week, I have a rooted droid running Beast 7.4 which has the OTA disabled. Is there a way to get the phone back to being able to receive the update without wiping all my text/e-mail/call logs/pics? I'm guessing it would require moving to a different ROM or just back to the original 2.0.1 update...but I'm not clear how to do it. If anyone can post a link or explain it in non-Linux lingo, I would greatly appreciate it! I just don't want to have to revert back to the original 2.0.1 and lose everything...don't care about the apps because I can just re-install those.

Motorola Droid :: Unroot - Resetting Phone Back To Stock 2.1

May 10, 2010

I've changed my Moto Droid to the Droid Incredible, I will miss and keep Moto Droid in my heart. (It also made me realize iPhone was just a platonic relationship). I'm selling it off to offset cost. It's already deactivated, I've been trying to use the Rom Manager to download a stock image but it keeps failing, apparently it doesn't want to use Wifi (tried in airplane mode too). Even then the version it downloads is rooted. I'd like to reset/wipe the phone down to 2.1 or 2.0.1 and a way to make sure OTA will work when it gets activated. How can I do this?

Motorola Droid :: Lots Of Resetting After Recent Updates And During Phone Call / What To Do?

Sep 11, 2010

I noticed that facebook notifications don't work at all anymore. But since the most recent update my phone has rebooted at least 2 times a day. Most recently during a phone call? I got this phone as a refurb from Verizon after the OTA bricked my last one. Does this warrant a replacement or is it a software bug I have to track down? I honestly don't want to go through the exchange process again.

Motorola Droid :: Flashing But Not Wiping

Apr 21, 2010

I rooted and became, as many of the rest of you have, addicted to flashing new ROMS. I get the feeling that this addiction will need to be fed more and more as leaks of 2.2 start poking out since it is now rumored to be coming. However, this causes an issue for me. My company was very reluctant to let me move away from the blackberry and to the Droid and have recently decided that I have to use the Goodlink Enterprise app for email. If/when I do a data/cache wipe because I've changed ROMS I cannot re-activate the email without my IT department generating a new PIN for me.

Motorola Droid :: Get Overclocking Abilities Without Installing A Custom ROM And Wiping The SD Card?

Jun 13, 2010

I've been reading up on rooting/overclocking and the like, and I've made the decision I want to try to overclock. It just seems like it's not running as good as it should be for a phone of its caliber. Killing apps seems to be the only way to improve the speed of the phone, and I think it's unnecessary to have to kill apps every time I do something on my phone. Some people have said that uninstalling app killers and not worrying about running apps has made their phone faster, and I tried that but it was running even more sluggishly than before. So if I overclock to 800-1000 and not kill apps, would I see a noticeable increase in performance? I usually run either PandaHome or just stock Home, and I may install something like BB if I get tired of home replacements, but I don't want to install a ROM at the moment, only if it's necessary.

And I have a few questions before I get started:
I've read a couple threads about rooting/overclocking, and none of them seem to say if it's possible to just get a kernal and overclocking abilities without installing a ROM and wiping the SD card, so is it possible to ONLY get overclocking abilities without installing a custom ROM and wiping the SD card?

Motorola Droid :: Best Phone For Rooting - Fuse?

Sep 5, 2010

This may not be the appropriate forum for this, but my wife has an upgrade available and I currently have a rooted Droid. We have Verizon and I'd like to make a smart decision about which phone to upgrade her line to. It seems like the Droid X has the best hardware, but with the Fuse issue with the bootloader, is this phone ever going to be as capable as an HTC Droid Incredible, just for an example? Maybe the Incredible is the best Verizon phone, taking root abilities into account. I just don't and I'm looking for opinions from all the experts that know far more about this than me. Do you think the X will overcome the issues outstanding right now?

My friend and I are just having to many issues with NexFro 1.0.1 on the 2.2 OS crashing and other misc. stuff but we love the interface so we want to go back to NextBeast 1.1 on the 2.1 OS. What is the easiest and safest way to get back to the 2.1 OS? Also I am questioning the method my friend rooted his phone, even though it responds as rooted it seems to act even flakier than mine under the Nexfro ROM. What would be the best method in restoring his droid back to stock OS and starting over?

I noticed that most of the "How To Root" on this forum have broken links to the files, does anyone have a link for a good set of instructions with working links they can forward me? One last question is what exactly is Peter's Baseband thing do? I have been reading about it but it isn't sinking in my head as to what exactly it does.
