View 1 RepliesI followed the instructions here: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-hero/76717-how-increase-battery-life-performance-your-new-shiny-rom.html but didn't see the option to wipe battery stats. Am I using the wrong recovery image to the on in the thread, and if yes is there another way to do that? my battery life SUCKS.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAccording to several statements and threads by several people: Froyo has a built-in feature that if you wipe it will RETAIN your apps (at least some of them). So if you are having issues with an app, and you wipe and re-flash, that app may still be there with the same issues. I have already experienced this. As far as I know, no other ROM has this issue.
While the phone is booted:
1. Menu>Privacy>Factory data reset
2. Go into recovery
3. Completely wipe everything and I do mean EVERYTHING
4. Move ROM back over to Sd card and flash it
I am finaly getting somewhat comfortable with flashing and nandroid backup/restores.
I forgot to wipe before restoring a nandroid (DC2.08.1) last night, and subsequently have made some changes. Everything seems to be working OK. I will make a new Nandroid backup.
Is there any benefit to then wiping and restoring that new nandroid backup? Or will the backup just re-install what I have just wiped? Sorry, I don't understand what exactly is being wiped.
I think I've got a memory leak somewhere. I'm running DC v2.08.1 and I've got a low memory error. It may be because I flashed from Fresh 2.0D to this without wiping, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any ideas how I can figure it out without wiping. I'd really rather not wipe again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running rooted stock Android 2.3 on LG E405 (no working 4.x ROMs exist for the device)
I have two questions:
1) What is the shell command to manually make android allow the PC to mount androids' (internal) partition as USB-drive? (I cannot think of right keywords to google this one up - )
2) How does android determine which partition is which (i.e. which one to remount for the PC when connecting in "USB storage" mode), beside vold.fstab and init.rc? On android 2.3 that info is not in "framework-res.apk", so where is it? In the partition table itself?
I had switched data partition with internal sdcard partition.
Here's how: Phone had a very small "/data" partition on /dev/block/mmcblk0p21 and large internal "/sdcard" partition on mmcblk0p20
So I reformatted mmcblk0p20 (ex-sdcard partition) into EXT4 and mmcblk0p21 (ex-data partition) into FAT32
Then I changed init.rc to mount mmcblk0p20 as /data type EXT4 and mmcblk0p21 as /sdcard type VFAT (mounting /sdcard was commented out in stock init.rc for some reason). This required modifying my boot image.
I have also set correct partition number in vold.fstab:
[#]dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host[/#]
So basicly I now have a large /data partition and small internal /sdcard. I'm able install up to a gigabyte of APKs and it works fine.
However, when I connect to my PC via USB into "USB Storage" mode, the phone seems to still try to unmount what was previously sdcard partition (/dev/block/mmcblk0p20), instead of what is NOW an sdcard partition (/dev/block/mmcblk0p21) I can still send files to the phone via wi-fi and ADB, but the ability to mount it directly would be nice.
If I accidentally select "erase internal sdcard" from storage menu, that will also most likely erase what is now my /data partition, softbricking the phone. The "factory reset" option will probably only corrupt the sdcard.
I'm have been trying to create a second partition on my sd card using miniTool Partition Wizard. But in the end I never get a 2nd partition but just a smaller first one.My approach is as follows:
insert empty SD card (FAT32, 4GB)
open miniTool Partition Wizard
right click on SD card - "Move/Resize"
choose 1gb for unallocated space after - click ok
right click on 2nd partition and choose "create"
create 2nd partition with FAT32/Ext2/Ext3 (tried all options already) and "primary" and Cluster 4KB - click ok
Apply
Afterwards my SD card is still shown as one partition, but this has just 1gb less capacity then before.Neither the Wizard nor the phone detects the 2nd partition then.
I can't figure what is exactly meaning the Partition Sdcard values in CWM.
I have an i9000, with 8Gb of flash. Some are system reserved. Available is around 6Gb.
When i run CWM, i can partition my sdcard, but i don't see what means the possible values (for 256 to 4096).
This is obviously not ruling the space left on /sdcard mountpoint (i partition to 2048, i still have nearly 6Gb available)... So what exactly means partition sdcard from CWM ??
i can't find an answer, and i dislike, when flashing rom, following commands i don't really master (generally a partition SD 2048 / SWAP 256 or SWAP 0).
I have bought a cheap chinese phone that had a 4g rom. 512mb is mapped to data as p3 and p4 is mapped to internal storage which is 2g.
I have managed to work out how to delete partition4 and extend partition3 as they follow on from each other.
However how do I remove all links to it in the system as it still tries to mount it on boot even though it isn't there.
I have removed the line from vold.fstab and that just crashed the external and internal sdcards and the storage section inside the system settings.
I tried to partition my SD card and install VillainRom 11.9.1 using the 'normal installation' method described at this link create an ext partition. Something went wrong and my SD card was pretty much wiped clean. I lost pics and files (which isn't much of a problem) but I'm more concerned about losing nandroid back-ups and everything else that was put by the rooting process like the amon-ra recovery stuff. Can someone let me know what I should have and where I can get it?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI rooted my Hero a couple of months back and have been playing around with various ROM's. Currently running the latest Sensehero and not going too bad. However, thinking of getting APPS2SD up and running and everywhere I look it says the first thing you need to do is partition the SD card from the recovery menu. Here lies the problem.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIn Taskiller the amount of free memory is showing between 90-105mb. Is this normal? I have deleted text messages, cleared cache, deleting emails from inbox and trash etc. I going to get rid of a few apps too, but its a bummer if I cant have many apps due to it affecting memory!
Also I understand that if flash it with the Modaco custom ROM. I can create a swap partition, does this help a lot? Also would I lose quite a lot of the HTC Hero features such as Sense UI for example if I flash it with Modaco?
When ever I partition the sdcard it gives the option of installing a swap partition. I know that my ubuntu installation on my laptop installs a swap partition when I installed the operating system. Would there be any benefit for installing a swap partition on the sd card?

The open source nature of Android has come back to bite Google, with what may be the first piece of malware finding its way onto the Android Market.
MemoryUp is supposedly designed to clean up the T-Mobile G1?s memory, but it?s being a bit too vigorous and wiping the internal memory of the G1 as well as the inserted SD card in some cases. One user, ?kr33p1n?, complains that it ?Doesn?t work at all erased my phone numbers and froze my phone,? and many others seem to be in agreement, with the program clocking up several hundred one star ratings already. So, a devious Windows Mobile, BlackBerry Storm or Palm Pre employee behind it? Or just some jerk cranking out cackhanded code? We don?t know, but all of a sudden, Apple?s closed App Store and opaque approval process seem very enticing.........
I rooted and became, as many of the rest of you have, addicted to flashing new ROMS. I get the feeling that this addiction will need to be fed more and more as leaks of 2.2 start poking out since it is now rumored to be coming. However, this causes an issue for me. My company was very reluctant to let me move away from the blackberry and to the Droid and have recently decided that I have to use the Goodlink Enterprise app for email. If/when I do a data/cache wipe because I've changed ROMS I cannot re-activate the email without my IT department generating a new PIN for me.

Some of the stuff I have been reading online have said that in order to get the update, an unrooted phone is needed. So, I've been trying to figure out the best way to unroot my phone! All of the methods I've seen require wiping the phone in order to unroot it (ie. View 3 Replies View RelatedWe just implemented Exchange 2010 at our company within the past year, and up until now, we weren't enforcing a security key for devices with Exchange accounts attached to them. Our systems team is currently implementing some security features including the required security key and a remote-wipe tool.
I tested the remote wipe tool on my Asus Transformer, which is running a custom Jellybean ROM and Rogue Recovery, and the wipe actually worked. I was a little surprised to see it work, I figured the custom recovery would cause it to fail.
Is there anyway to screw over the remote-wipe tool?
I want the hulu app to work, apparently newest leak it does not. I can do root and s-off, don't want to go through backing up apps and restoring. Want the most stable 2.2. Needs verizon's 3g hotspot working. Doesn't need sense. What rom do I need, and what are the steps to getting this done? If it's always recommended to do a full backup, wipe, and restore, then bleh.
