Android :: App Wiping TMO G1 Phones Clean

January 26, 2009, 11:00 am by Ben Sillis 1 comment Filed under Mobile phones Tags: Android, android market, app, app store, Apple, G1, Google, HTC, T-Mobile, T-mobile G1 Watch out, T-Mobile G1 owners: a dodgy app that appears to be wiping phone memories has made its way onto the Android Market. The open source nature of Android has come back to bite Google, with what may be the first piece of malware finding its way onto the Android Market.

MemoryUp is supposedly designed to clean up the T-Mobile G1?s memory, but it?s being a bit too vigorous and wiping the internal memory of the G1 as well as the inserted SD card in some cases. One user, ?kr33p1n?, complains that it ?Doesn?t work at all erased my phone numbers and froze my phone,? and many others seem to be in agreement, with the program clocking up several hundred one star ratings already. So, a devious Windows Mobile, BlackBerry Storm or Palm Pre employee behind it? Or just some jerk cranking out cackhanded code? We don?t know, but all of a sudden, Apple?s closed App Store and opaque approval process seem very enticing.........

Motorola Droid :: Flashing But Not Wiping

Apr 21, 2010

I rooted and became, as many of the rest of you have, addicted to flashing new ROMS. I get the feeling that this addiction will need to be fed more and more as leaks of 2.2 start poking out since it is now rumored to be coming. However, this causes an issue for me. My company was very reluctant to let me move away from the blackberry and to the Droid and have recently decided that I have to use the Goodlink Enterprise app for email. If/when I do a data/cache wipe because I've changed ROMS I cannot re-activate the email without my IT department generating a new PIN for me.

HTC Incredible :: Unroot Phone Without Wiping

Jul 16, 2010

I currently have a rooted Droid Incredible and want to upgrade to the latest VZW OTA update in order to get the new features (aka, 720p recording). Some of the stuff I have been reading online have said that in order to get the update, an unrooted phone is needed. So, I've been trying to figure out the best way to unroot my phone! All of the methods I've seen require wiping the phone in order to unroot it (ie. Root & Unroot your Droid Incredible now! | Gadgets DNA) Is there a different way to unroot the phone without wiping it back to the stock Incredible ROM?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Wiping With Cyanogens 6.0

Aug 22, 2010

According to several statements and threads by several people: Froyo has a built-in feature that if you wipe it will RETAIN your apps (at least some of them). So if you are having issues with an app, and you wipe and re-flash, that app may still be there with the same issues. I have already experienced this. As far as I know, no other ROM has this issue.

While the phone is booted:

1. Menu>Privacy>Factory data reset
2. Go into recovery
3. Completely wipe everything and I do mean EVERYTHING
4. Move ROM back over to Sd card and flash it

I forgot to wipe before restoring a nandroid (DC2.08.1) last night, and subsequently have made some changes. Everything seems to be working OK. I will make a new Nandroid backup.

Is there any benefit to then wiping and restoring that new nandroid backup? Or will the backup just re-install what I have just wiped? Sorry, I don't understand what exactly is being wiped.

General :: Any Way To Prevent ActiveSync From Wiping Device?

Jan 17, 2013

We just implemented Exchange 2010 at our company within the past year, and up until now, we weren't enforcing a security key for devices with Exchange accounts attached to them. Our systems team is currently implementing some security features including the required security key and a remote-wipe tool.

I tested the remote wipe tool on my Asus Transformer, which is running a custom Jellybean ROM and Rogue Recovery, and the wipe actually worked. I was a little surprised to see it work, I figured the custom recovery would cause it to fail.

Is there anyway to screw over the remote-wipe tool?

Motorola Droid :: Wiping / Resetting And Rooting Phone?

Jun 27, 2010

my phone was running really slow. it lost that new phone feel. so i decided that i was going to wipe the phone and start fresh. once, i decided to do that, i then figured why the hell not and rooted the phone.

when i wiped/reset my phone i expected that everything would be gone. i did this by holding "x" and power and then chose to wipe from there. i also chose to wipe the cache partition too. well after i rebooted, i noticed my custom wallpaper and a bunch of applications were still installed on my phone??? the reason i wanted to do this was to get rid of everything and start fresh...but all these apps were still there. did i not wipe the phone correctly?

- next i installed sprecovery on my phone. that went fine.
- i then wiped it again and installed JRummys cyanogen remix 5.0.7.1.
- Right off the bat, my phone is running slower than ever. When exiting from an app by hitting the home screen, sometime i just get a blank screen that sits there for a few seconds before my icons pop up. what gives?.............

HTC EVO 4G :: Froyo / Tapping Event To View Details Wiping Out All Reminders

Aug 3, 2010

I use Google Calendar to organize my life, and rely on the email reminders to keep me from forgetting events and to know when to act on them. With 2.1 I had no issues, Google Calendar was synced to the stock HTC calendar app on EVO. I had the calendar set to view in "agenda" mode. Now since updating to Froyo, when I open the calendar app in agenda mode, the events have bell icons to the right of them, this is new. If I tap the event to open it and view the details of the event, when I return to the main agenda viewing mode of the calendar the bell is gone.

The phone then syncs with Google Calendar, and deletes all of the scheduled Email Reminders that I have set up for the event. This was not a problem with 2.1. No bells showed to the right of the events in agenda mode, and I could tap into the event to view the details without deleting email reminders on Google Calendar. With Froyo, by simply tapping the event to view the details it is effectively wiping out all reminders, rendering the calendar useless. This making me wish I had never updated to Froyo. The calendar and reminders are the single most important function on my phone, and with Froyo it seems to be incredibly flawed.

Samsung Fascinate :: Completely Wiping / Formatting An Sdhc Card

Sep 10, 2010

The SD card on my samsung fascinate worked fined until I tried to save a sound from a mms. Then my fascinate starting slowing down... until i removed the sd card. Then the phone ran fine. The problem I have is that I tried to format the sd card both by phone, and by computer. However the phone would freeze up if I insert the card, and my computer is unable to format the card. I tried going to controlpanel//administrative tools/computer management -> disk management, but it was unable to format the card.I even tried downloading something called an "sd formatter" however it appears as though my card is "not supported". Does anyone have a solution on how to return it back to normal? It appears as though normal formatting methods are not working. The card came with the fascinate 16gb, class 2 if that helps at all.

I really don't want to fully wipe the device if possible! The phone in question is running 2.3.4.

Motorola Droid :: Get Phone Back To Receive Updates Without Wiping All My Text?

Feb 9, 2010

After reading that 2.1 is "supposed" to drop this week, I have a rooted droid running Beast 7.4 which has the OTA disabled. Is there a way to get the phone back to being able to receive the update without wiping all my text/e-mail/call logs/pics? I'm guessing it would require moving to a different ROM or just back to the original 2.0.1 update...but I'm not clear how to do it. If anyone can post a link or explain it in non-Linux lingo, I would greatly appreciate it! I just don't want to have to revert back to the original 2.0.1 and lose everything...don't care about the apps because I can just re-install those.

Motorola Droid :: Get Overclocking Abilities Without Installing A Custom ROM And Wiping The SD Card?

Jun 13, 2010

I've been reading up on rooting/overclocking and the like, and I've made the decision I want to try to overclock. It just seems like it's not running as good as it should be for a phone of its caliber. Killing apps seems to be the only way to improve the speed of the phone, and I think it's unnecessary to have to kill apps every time I do something on my phone. Some people have said that uninstalling app killers and not worrying about running apps has made their phone faster, and I tried that but it was running even more sluggishly than before. So if I overclock to 800-1000 and not kill apps, would I see a noticeable increase in performance? I usually run either PandaHome or just stock Home, and I may install something like BB if I get tired of home replacements, but I don't want to install a ROM at the moment, only if it's necessary.

And I have a few questions before I get started:
I've read a couple threads about rooting/overclocking, and none of them seem to say if it's possible to just get a kernal and overclocking abilities without installing a ROM and wiping the SD card, so is it possible to ONLY get overclocking abilities without installing a custom ROM and wiping the SD card?
