Motorola Droid :: What Plan Do I Need To Activate Droid On Verizon?
Dec 23, 2009
I'm looking to pick up a Droid (with no contract... my wallet says ouch) but its okay because I can partially offset the costs by selling my current phone) . My family made the rushed decision to switch to Verizon in October and I ended up getting the Samsung Rogue. I currently have the family plan + a basic texting plan (200 or 300 messages a month, I forgot which one lol) + 25MB Basic Data. Would I be able to activate the Droid via the Verizon website or by phone without having to add anything extra. I know they will probably ask me to get the unlimited data, but I was wondering if there is anyway around this? I really like my rogue, but it doesn't compare to Droid. The rogue has no wifi , and its GPS is completely limited due to VZW Navigator, Not to mention the Android OS + Apps + 5MP Camera

What plan will this phone require on Verizon?I mean assuming you want the full experience. Will there be an option to add an unlimited data plan to existing plans (especially a family plan?)

I was lied to by Verizon. When I upgraded I was told that my current 6 dollar plan would cover my phone the same way my old phone was covered. Luckily I called today and found out the truth. They offer a 6 dollar plan that does indeed cover the Droid. It only will cover it for 1 Year. Outside of a year then you are not covered at all. So thinking logically I asked about the 9 dollar plan and was told it does cover you outside of the 1 year warranty. Here comes the stupid part, you are forced to purchase either one of these plans within 30 days of getting the phone even though you are technically covered under the manu warranty for 1 year. So basically you need to pay verizon 108 dollars for a years worth of coverage when your phone is technically already covered. Does anyone else see an issue with this

I bought my Droid on line via Phandroid/Verizon Wireless just after midnight on Friday and filled out all the info, picked a Verizon plan, gave them my current cell number (which is an AT&T Mobile number) and checked the boxes that said "yes, please port my old number on to my new Verizon phone".
So I get the phone today (superfast -- I hadn't even paid for overnight delivery). But when I follow the instructions to activate, the activation fails. I touch the Droid on the touchscreen, it brings up the phone, I follow the voice prompts and dial my cell number, but it doesn't work.
Spoke with a VW customer service rep (late night Saturday night). He gave me a different customer service # to call on Sunday for help with "porting."
I sure hope I get this straightened out quickly. Maybe I should've just bought the Droid at a Verizon store and let the VW store guys activate it for me.
The VW customer service rep was saying I should see a "temporary Verizon cell #" somewhere on my receipt or packing slip. But there isn't any. Just the mobile # that I'm trying to port over from AT&T.
Did I do something wrong when I ordered the phone? Or is it normal for there to be a delay in getting the old # ported?

Was just comparing the two data plans. The T&C is here:About Us Facts-at-a-Glance Acceptable use policy: Acceptable Use Policy They are listing it as "Unlimited Data Usage" plan and with my discount it's $35 a month.3) VOIP is mentioned as an acceptable protocol! This really surprised me.

As much as I dislike bringing up the word iPhone, I know it has a nice little thing built in that keeps track of your text / voice usage in comparison to whatever plan you have. Considering I'm on a family plan and didn't get a whole lot of texts (yay for google talk!), it'd be nice if I could quickly and easily check my usage Anyone know if there is an app for this / something that verizon has that supports this?

How is verizon able to get away with tacking on $30 extra on top of the data plan for unlimited email & web browsing? If I cancel this will they block http & smtp from my phone when on the network? I assume I'd be good with wi-fi.Would they block widgets and other apps that use http protocol?
Can the web browser be set up to use a proxy?

As many news sources have indicated Verizon is set to eliminate the unlimited data plan in the next month or so.Will this change allow current Verizon customers to get out of their contract without a penalty?Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/21/verizon-data-plan-changes_n_654481.htmlVia Verizon (Customer Agreement)Can Verizon Wireless Change This Agreement or My Service? We may change prices or any other term of your Service or this agreement at any time, but we'll provide notice first, including written notice if you have Postpay Service. If you use your Service after the change takes effect, that means you're accepting the change. If you're a Postpay customer and a change to your Plan or this agreement has a material adverse effect on you, you can cancel the line of Service that has been affected within 60 days of receiving the notice with no early termination fee.

For some strange reason I can't seem to set-up my personal e-mail account on this Droid phone. I click on "e-mail", I type in my e-mail address and my password, and then I click "next". And then I get a message that says my username and/or password does not match. But I am positive it does, as I have gone online to test it. I have tried retyping my username and passwrod over and over again without any success. I can't get passed that screen.
I have Verizon FiOS at my house, so my e-mail is set-up through Verizon/Yahoo.

Curious what plans everyone has or is planning to get? At present I have no contract.I just went on VerizonWireless.com and picked a random smartphone and set up a mock plan- total monthly bill came out to $117.97 a month!Does that sound rediculous? The plan includes: 900 minutes +nights and weekends+5 friends+ unlimited texts 79.99 Unlimited Dataplan 29.99 Total Insurance 7.99 TOTAL: 117.97 How can I get a better deal? Or is that what everyone else is going to do?I have the ability to join a friends Family Plan, would that be wise?

I have the original droid with 2.1 (still haven't got update) the phone has some problems like, restarting, cant update certain apps, unresponsive. i just got the phone in may 2010 an im starting to think its getting out dated. I once had it rooted to 2.2 but went back to stock for OTA 2.2 . But my question is, that do u think i can call verizon and tell them my problems, say its my 3rd droid and im getting tired of it. Since there not making the oringinal droid anymore do u think they'll let me upgrade to Droid X with little or no fee? i got the idea from another post, reading that someone had success with this trick?

I read the thread at http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting-incredible/85052-bluetooth-battery-consumption.html and noticed everyone saying that BT significantly drains your battery when on but not in use. It seems like a huge pain to have to press an icon everytime I get in the car and everytime I leave to turn it back on, especially since I don't get too many calls while I'm driving. Is there a way to have BT cut on when the car dock app is activated (I have the Motorola car dock app)? And if not, does anyone know if the drain in battery on the DX is significant?

So Option 1 doesn't do anything except for telling me to contact a CSR. Option two gives me the music and tells me it can't activate the phone and gives me a 1800 number that does little for me at 3 in the morning.

This may have already been discovered but this weekend while holding my Droid I stumbled upon a cool (maybe useless) feature. If you have the "Google Search" shortcut on your home screen like I do, all you have to do is lightly shake the Droid to activate the search feature. You have to be on the same home screen as the Google Search shortcut. The weird thing is I cannot reproduce my findings 100% of the time. For instance, this morning it worked 7 out of 10 times.

This summer I am going to four different countries in Europe for a vacation. I was planning on bringing my Droid to mainly take pics/videos, listen to my music, and send some texts. Maybe make 1 or 2 emergency calls and thats about it. I know we have the NATIONWIDE SELECT FAMILY SHARE SECONDARY 2100 plan, but not sure how that will carry out in Europe. I need to go into Verizon to make sure, but was hoping to get a idea of how it will work out there from here. Do I get charged out the rear for anything I do, data, texts, calls?

What is average data usage?I averaged: 6/01 - 6/07: 602,627 KB. (Got my Incredible on June 1st this is funny to me)5/08 - 5/31: 411, 534 KB. (Storm 2 I guess doesn't have any love)I'm interested to see how my past month panned out when I see the statement.

I just got the Motorola Droid from Verizon with their data plan. Both at home and work, I can access the internet with wifi. Is there any advantage to using one over the other (obviously I use the data plan when wifi isn't available)? The data plan is one monthly fee that I had to pay anyway, but I didn't know if there was something I was missing?

I got the Droid about a month ago and love it. I do have a problem though: My house is in the same town as a non-verizon CDMA tower (US Cellular) and very far away from the nearest Verizon tower. With my other Verizon phones (older handsets), they just connect to the close tower and have full signal all the time without any issues. My Droid, on the other hand, will always try to stay connected to the distant Verizon tower - it can be very difficult and frustrating to make calls with the Droid because there is often no signal and the phone is unable to place a call. I don't need the 3G at home, as the Droid can use my wireless for browsing, etc. How can I get the Droid to stop trying to connect to the distant Verizon tower and connect to the nearby partner tower instead (so that I have high-quality phone signal at home)? I have called Verizon and Motorola and nothing seems to help.
