Motorola Droid :: Undo Root On Droid
Jun 19, 2010
I currently have a rooted Droid running BB 1.1, but I had an issue with the vibrate motor inside the phone and Verizon is in the process of shipping me a new one fully covered under warranty. However, rooting your phone does in fact VOID the warranty, and when I ship the defective phone back, I am afraid I will have to pay for the replacement. Will a factory reset undo the "rooting", if not is there any way to? Or is this something I shouldn't even be worrying about?

I manually installed Froyo on a Motorola Droid from one of the available sites prior to the OTA update. I've experienced some slowness and my phone locking up. Can I revert back to the last good update and then reinstall Froyo via the OTA update option on my phone?

I mistakenly selected one of two email accounts on my X -- as being the "Default"
This was a mistake, as I really should have kept the setting dynamic -- so I could chose to send from either account.
Now I can't undo that default setting -- nor can I even switch the default to the other email account.
Here's how I got to the menu in question:
GUI Messaging Icon > Left Menu Button > Messaging Settings > Email > Default Email Account
Anyone know how I can undo this default setting -- and put myself back in the position of being able to select which account to use dynamically?

I accidentally deleted an email I wanted, but couldn't figure out how to "undelete" it. I can see if in the Trash folder, but don't see any menu options to move it back to the Inbox.
I was able to open the message and Forward it to myself, but that seemed overly difficult. Is there any easier way to undo the delete?

I rooted my evo a couple of weeks ago and its been pretty great, but I'm noticing an issue with my messaging app. Its only in the messaging app that the phone does this, but it wont scroll up in my messaging threads. I scroll up, it will stay there for a second, then it will jump all the way back to the bottom. I just noticed this today. It does not do this when I'm outside of message threads, nor does it do this when I'm browsing the internet.
Anyway, I was thinking maybe the root and the 1.32.653.1 rom were the problem. So I was looking to either update to the 653.6 while in root, or to undo my root and update to the 653.6 and use the unrevoked method, which seems to be doing all the things that I want my rooted phone to do (manage the overclocking settings in order to conserve battery life).

Here's what I've figured out. I tried doing Toast's root method for linux and the directions weren't idiot proof because I screwed them up. I've explained how far I've gotten in other threads. If that's relevant just ask and I'll explain exactly what I did.
Anyway my phone does the basics. It allows me to make phone calls, text, and look at the internet on the phone so this isn't an emergency but it I am worse off than I was before I tried to root because I can no longer use easytether.
I had no problem with easytether prior to the root attempt, and it still works when I hook it up with my wifes untampered evo. with my phone but with my wife's evo, I've never messed with that one, I have no trouble connecting with easy tether.
Some of the things I've noticed about the device since the attmept...
-I can't update to 2.2 via the OTA or any other method, my device says no updates are available.
-Simple root wasn't so simple, the phone never shut off and rebooted into boot screen like the red screen said it would in step 1.
How do I reset the device to the way it was the day it was purchased. I've got everything I need backed up. I'm ready to reset just tell me how.

Here is the scenario:
Motorola Droid - Original
1. Rooted 2.1, then
2. OTA Stock Update to 2.2, then
3. Seem to have lost root, However - I still have the Superuser Permissions Icon.
I use Barnacle for WiFi Tether - I get a "Permission Denied" error when I try to start the application. I also went into the terminal emulator and tried an "su" which also gave a permission denied response. I tried "sudo" and also got permission denied response. Others have told me this is common with this progression of events. However, How do I now ROOT 2.2 in this scenario?

I used DroidMod to root when I had 2.01. When 2.1 became available, I "un-rooted" then forced update to 2.1. Well to be honest, it is really slow and laggy. I now want to go back to DroidMod, but nothing I have tried seems to work.

I'm trying to gain root and having some problems...
I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.
After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html
to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?

My Droid is slow. I went on an app uninstall spree and really cut it down. I don't have any task killers installed (saw some posts about them) and sometimes my phone does dumb things and lags. If I root and overclock will I see a big difference? I know the dangers of overclocking and that the processor is rated at 1ghz but is underclocked, I understand all that. Or, any suggestions on making it faster?

I've been thinking about rooting my Droid for a little while, but I would like some clarification on the risks before I begin. I know almost nothing about Linux (but I am a tinkerer), but there seem to be very straightforward instructions on how to do everything I'm interested in. When people say that you could "brick" your phone by deleting/moving/renaming the wrong file, I want to make sure I understand the usage of "brick". My definition of bricking a device was that it was literally only good as a brick. It is BROKEN. For good. Kaput. Like a brick. However, Blackberry users (when I was tinkering with my Blackberry Storm) use the word "brick" to describe a phone that just needs its operating system reloaded. I have no problem reloading the Android ROM if I had to (provided a dump of the Droid ROM exists) but will I have the option?Does "brick" around here mean the phone is 100% broken, or that it needs the Android ROM reloaded?

We need one click root for the droid! I know it's pretty easy already to root, but the one click root installs the nandroid and all the other stuff that scares people off (including me) to root. That would increase the DROID rooting community by so much I think. A developer should create a one click root apk. right before android 2.1 where it roots your DROID (like it did for the G1 and others) and installs all the necessary stuff along with you just having to then install the ROM right after. I don't know, it is just a thought. That is what made the G1 and Mytouch3g community grow so quickly...what do you guys think?!

Is it possible to root the Droid prior to activating it (you know, doing the *228 thing to be able to actually make calls and use data)? My wife's new Droid just arrived and I'm planning to put JRummy's Pink Froyo on for her. Thought it might be nice to have it done prior to her getting home from work. I'll obviously still be signing in with her google account and I have wifi at home should I need to access any data. But she needs her current phone right now and activating this new one would in turn deactivate the one she has with her.

So I had Pete's virgin 2.2 release on my phone, ran fine, full root access.
Sapphire 7.0 was released, so what the heck, I formatted system/cache, and installed.
But...lost root somehow. No SU app, no access.
Applied su.zip in Recovery to regain access. Didn't work...
Applied it a few more times, rebooted...nada.
Wiped system/cache and installed CM6 Alpha 3...no root. Applied su.zip, still no su app, no root.
Nandroided back to my backup of Pete's virgin 2.2 release. Root.
Wiped system/cache, installed CM6 Alpha 3, no root.
W-T-F?
Never seen this before...always wipe system/cache before a new ROM, never lost root before.
Really appreciate any suggestions...I have access to CW recovery.
Don't understand how flashing a rooted ROM could leave me w/out root access, or why installing an su zip doesn't add SU back in.

Is there a way to root after the OTA 2.1 update yet?
Sorry, I had my noob goggles on this morning and accidentally applied the OTA update after I did the baseband update so now I've lost root. I know, I know... that update file should never have been on my sd card to start with.
I did a backup with ROMmanager prior to these updates, but can't do anything with it now. Just need to root again so life can continue.

Im new to this. I just got my droid yesterday, but Im no idiot when it comes to computers. I even did some adb commands for the first time ever late last night.(they mostly failed )I followed instructions in another thread on how to install sprecovery on a 2.1 OTA phone without rolling it back to 2.0.1 So Right now I have 2.1 OTA phone with SPRecovery. My question is what do I do next ? Install a custom Rom? I understand there is no way yet to root the 2.1 OTA. ( I found a couple posts on how do so but the update.zips did nothing for me)IF installing a custom ROM is the answer then can someone help me with that? will it install on my phone that has 2.1 OTA with SPRecover? what is a good ROM? I dont want something thats gonna lessen my GPS as I have read some roms do. Most of all Idont want to Brick my phone.btw I love this droid and Im excited to be on the android forums
