Ok, so this is for the people that just got a new Droid X from the newer batches that come with 2.2 loaded in them.
I know there was some talk of early Droid Xs coming with the loose row of keys...here and there I heard! However, the new batch of Droid X's that I checked out all had very loose keys, Like both rows had alot of play? IMO thats a big no no, because with heavy use they can only get worse. Also new Droid x's are coming with the newer screens that were on back order, what I saw on two of them was pretty bizzare, the screen when turned off had alot of weird haze to it, hard to explain, but it looked almost blurry. When turned on you cant really tell, but when off, the wiggly lines are there? Also on board was a slightly yellow screen while in a White page like Google. WTF with these companies, it's enough that they release a new Android phone every single month, but phone quality is just not up to snuff IMO, that goes for Samsung, HTC, and yes YOU MOTO! Anyway, anyone else with a new X seeing any of these issues
trying to play music via bluetooth in my new Cobalt SS. voice works fine but music just plays on the speakerphone like always. any idea? besides an FM modulator.. no tape deck either.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThere are big and fast phones on the way. IMHO - VZW is whoring the BOGO on the Droid lately. I have seen many, many Moto Droid commercials that the "DROID" sound makes me look at my phone all the time. Just seems like they want to clear their inventory in prep for some faster and newer phones beyond the incredible.

I want to just custom recovery restore to the deodexed ROM here (Droid X 2.2 Froyo Deodexed and Ready For Themes) but cannot because I get the following error every time I try to restore a backup from custom recovery: "e:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 device or resource busy.I think I found out that it is because this Koush recovery is the original 2.1 version, so I need the 2.2 one.Two things:-Where do I get this 2.2 newer version? His site doesn't mention it but maybe he just replaced the file download without mentioning? http://www.koushikdutta. com/2010/08/droid-x-recovery.html)-How can I install this newer recovery if I am stuck in bootloop?

Motorola Droid - Original
1. Rooted 2.1, then
2. OTA Stock Update to 2.2, then
3. Seem to have lost root, However - I still have the Superuser Permissions Icon.
I use Barnacle for WiFi Tether - I get a "Permission Denied" error when I try to start the application. I also went into the terminal emulator and tried an "su" which also gave a permission denied response. I tried "sudo" and also got permission denied response. Others have told me this is common with this progression of events. However, How do I now ROOT 2.2 in this scenario?
I just rooted my stock froyo with it! If this has already been discussed.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to gain root and having some problems...
I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.
After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html
to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?
I have the Droid should I wait for 2.1 and then root or root now?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Droid is slow. I went on an app uninstall spree and really cut it down. I don't have any task killers installed (saw some posts about them) and sometimes my phone does dumb things and lags. If I root and overclock will I see a big difference? I know the dangers of overclocking and that the processor is rated at 1ghz but is underclocked, I understand all that. Or, any suggestions on making it faster?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been thinking about rooting my Droid for a little while, but I would like some clarification on the risks before I begin. I know almost nothing about Linux (but I am a tinkerer), but there seem to be very straightforward instructions on how to do everything I'm interested in. When people say that you could "brick" your phone by deleting/moving/renaming the wrong file, I want to make sure I understand the usage of "brick". My definition of bricking a device was that it was literally only good as a brick. It is BROKEN. For good. Kaput. Like a brick. However, Blackberry users (when I was tinkering with my Blackberry Storm) use the word "brick" to describe a phone that just needs its operating system reloaded. I have no problem reloading the Android ROM if I had to (provided a dump of the Droid ROM exists) but will I have the option?Does "brick" around here mean the phone is 100% broken, or that it needs the Android ROM reloaded?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have a rooted Droid running BB 1.1, but I had an issue with the vibrate motor inside the phone and Verizon is in the process of shipping me a new one fully covered under warranty. However, rooting your phone does in fact VOID the warranty, and when I ship the defective phone back, I am afraid I will have to pay for the replacement. Will a factory reset undo the "rooting", if not is there any way to? Or is this something I shouldn't even be worrying about?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe need one click root for the droid! I know it's pretty easy already to root, but the one click root installs the nandroid and all the other stuff that scares people off (including me) to root. That would increase the DROID rooting community by so much I think. A developer should create a one click root apk. right before android 2.1 where it roots your DROID (like it did for the G1 and others) and installs all the necessary stuff along with you just having to then install the ROM right after. I don't know, it is just a thought. That is what made the G1 and Mytouch3g community grow so quickly...what do you guys think?!

My wife's new Droid just arrived and I'm planning to put JRummy's Pink Froyo on for her. Thought it might be nice to have it done prior to her getting home from work. So I had Pete's virgin 2.2 release on my phone, ran fine, full root access.
Sapphire 7.0 was released, so what the heck, I formatted system/cache, and installed.
But...lost root somehow. No SU app, no access.
Applied su.zip in Recovery to regain access. Didn't work...
Applied it a few more times, rebooted...nada.
Wiped system/cache and installed CM6 Alpha 3...no root. Applied su.zip, still no su app, no root.
Nandroided back to my backup of Pete's virgin 2.2 release. Root.
Wiped system/cache, installed CM6 Alpha 3, no root.
W-T-F?
Never seen this before...always wipe system/cache before a new ROM, never lost root before.
Really appreciate any suggestions...I have access to CW recovery.
Don't understand how flashing a rooted ROM could leave me w/out root access, or why installing an su zip doesn't add SU back in.
Is it possible to ROOT your Droid after the 2.2 Verizon update? If so, is there a link for it? Is it the same process as before?

Sorry, I had my noob goggles on this morning and accidentally applied the OTA update after I did the baseband update so now I've lost root. I know, I know... that update file should never have been on my sd card to start with.
I did a backup with ROMmanager prior to these updates, but can't do anything with it now. Just need to root again so life can continue.
Im new to this. I just got my droid yesterday, but Im no idiot when it comes to computers. I even did some adb commands for the first time ever late last night.(they mostly failed )I followed instructions in another thread on how to install sprecovery on a 2.1 OTA phone without rolling it back to 2.0.1 So Right now I have 2.1 OTA phone with SPRecovery. My question is what do I do next ? Install a custom Rom? I understand there is no way yet to root the 2.1 OTA. ( I found a couple posts on how do so but the update.zips did nothing for me)IF installing a custom ROM is the answer then can someone help me with that? will it install on my phone that has 2.1 OTA with SPRecover? what is a good ROM? I dont want something thats gonna lessen my GPS as I have read some roms do. Most of all Idont want to Brick my phone.btw I love this droid and Im excited to be on the android forums
