Sorry, I had my noob goggles on this morning and accidentally applied the OTA update after I did the baseband update so now I've lost root. I know, I know... that update file should never have been on my sd card to start with.
I did a backup with ROMmanager prior to these updates, but can't do anything with it now. Just need to root again so life can continue.
Is it true that after the 2.1 update that you will not be able to root?

View 23 Replies View Relatedi bought a motorola milestone online thinking we werent getting it on canada anymore . which i think is UK version? so i accepted the fact that i had no 3G on it and was aware that the phone frequency and cariier frequency were different. so when i decided to root my phone according to: MILESTONE 2.1 update and root guide - Android @ MoDaCo
i didnt know which SBF file to pick the telus canada one where im from or UK where the build number was the same as mine and where i think my phone was from.. i couldnt unzip the gz file and it kept gicing me errors on the telus canada sbf file so decided on flashing the telus canada one. (and was hoping maybe my 3G would even work. everything ran smoothly and my phone was rooted but now i realize i have no signal on my phone at all. no text or voice calls.. just wifi. i did my research and people suggested that i put APN which i did but that didnt solve the problem also i read that for custom roms theres those 5 files File_Audio , File_Audio2 , File_GSM , File_Seem_Flex_Tables , generic_pds_init that i was suppose to copy and then replace after the root but i was stupid enough not to back up.. so now im stuck and i dont know what to do.. is there an sbf file i can use cant even restore to factory settings because i dont think itll change my firmware..
Here is the scenario:
Motorola Droid - Original
1. Rooted 2.1, then
2. OTA Stock Update to 2.2, then
3. Seem to have lost root, However - I still have the Superuser Permissions Icon.
I use Barnacle for WiFi Tether - I get a "Permission Denied" error when I try to start the application. I also went into the terminal emulator and tried an "su" which also gave a permission denied response. I tried "sudo" and also got permission denied response. Others have told me this is common with this progression of events. However, How do I now ROOT 2.2 in this scenario?
I just rooted my stock froyo with it! If this has already been discussed.
View 42 Replies View RelatedI used DroidMod to root when I had 2.01. When 2.1 became available, I "un-rooted" then forced update to 2.1. Well to be honest, it is really slow and laggy. I now want to go back to DroidMod, but nothing I have tried seems to work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to gain root and having some problems...
I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.
After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html
to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?
I am VERY noob to rooting..I plan to look more into it before I do it...but am I able to root if I just got the July update? Also, if I flash a different ROM on my phone...will I be able to get Sense back if I want?

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo i found this link from theunlockr.com which shows you how to root your eris and put 2.1 on it. I want 2.1 but i am not sure about the root. Any cons to rooting? Will i still receive ota updates? Anything i can do with rooted eris that i can't do with non-rooted that would make the phone a lot better? I don't want to overclock it i am just looking for more options with the phone. Will i lose all my contacts and apps by doing this? Can i use different apps like the ones the moto droid can use but i can't because i am on 1.5?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm monitoring another page right now and things look like we might have root access tonight. they've got things moving back and forth on the phone now it's just getting a custom recovery onto the phone and we're in. i will update when things look really reallly good.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo i had my Droid Bionic (Verizon) rooted a few months back. A few weeks ago, there was an update for android firmware. I went from 2.3.4 to 4.0.4 without realizing I had to un-root my phone before.
The night I updated, my battery just so happened to run out in the middle of the night (the update was done in the morning, so the update process was obviously unaffected). I woke up to AP Flashboot Flash boot error. This was temporarily fixed with me just loading the fastboot menu and selecting Normal Powerup.
But now i would like to re-root my phone, and i was wondering if it is safe to just straight-up root it with my comp. And if im not specific enough, just let me know what information i have to include.
I rooted my evo a couple of weeks ago and its been pretty great, but I'm noticing an issue with my messaging app. Its only in the messaging app that the phone does this, but it wont scroll up in my messaging threads. I scroll up, it will stay there for a second, then it will jump all the way back to the bottom. I just noticed this today. It does not do this when I'm outside of message threads, nor does it do this when I'm browsing the internet.
Anyway, I was thinking maybe the root and the 1.32.653.1 rom were the problem. So I was looking to either update to the 653.6 while in root, or to undo my root and update to the 653.6 and use the unrevoked method, which seems to be doing all the things that I want my rooted phone to do (manage the overclocking settings in order to conserve battery life).
I've got a quick question.
My friend bricked his DX with the Deodexing or whatever. After an sbf flash..
Can we update to 2.2 via update.zip in recovery, install rom manager, and then install MY backup on his phone? I'm currently uploading them to file hosting, and wondering if this would work.
If so, will he be fully rooted, deodexed, and themed(I'm rocking the xtreme 2.2 theme)?
I just got my X a bit ago and was wondering if anyone had seen or tried this method. How To Root/Unroot Motorola Droid-X In One Simple Click?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo one of the cool things about Froyo is being able to check off Enable Automatic Update for market apps. So i have that checked off for like 80+% of my 80+ apps (that took a while to do let me tell you). Now i have had three apps have updates available since i checked off the box, yet they never actually automatically updated. I waited, hours, still never updated. Is there a setting i need to modify? Do i need to tell it what time of day to do it? Anyone else noticing this? I only really want it in apps that i don't care about reading the new features. But it is annoying that i have it enabled and it does nothing.
