Motorola Droid :: Testing JIT Actually Enabled / Working?
Mar 8, 2010
I installed Pete's BB v0.5 (ERE53) yesterday. Using the stock non-overclocked kernel, I am stunned at how much faster 2.1 is over 2.01.Anyway, I am curious about the JIT compiler and edited build.prop to enable it. I understand from reading either here or somewhere else that you don't have to push the three files (libnativehelper.so, etc.) as they already exist in BB. I did indeed find the three files. So how do I test to see if JIT is actually enabled and working? I ran Linpack a bunch of times before and after enabling. The highest I've see after enabling JIT is 4.667 mflops. It seems to consistently return 4.6xx mflops with occasional drops to 4.5xx or 4.4xx. Before enabling, it seemed to return mostly 4.5xx with an occasional 4.6xx. With such a small difference, I'm not convinced that JIT is actually enabled & working.

I've noticed this over the last couple of days. I have unlimited data, so have my email on autosync. I also get a lot of emails - so if I wake up (as today) to no new ones, I know something is wrong. I have the autosync thing enabled, but even when I got to the settings and ask it to sync now, it wont - it wont even try - there's no circling sync symbol, even for a moment - even unchecking then rechecking the things for syncing wont work. I have to turn it off then on before it'll do it again. What's going on - when out and about it sometimes takes me a while to notice it's not working, and turning off and on.

This new release (1/12/2010) is significant because it brings about a few significant changes:
1) Default over/underclock of 600MHz when under load, and only 125MHz when idle. The lower idle frequency should make up for the higher battery usage at load.
2) Wifi tethering is now enabled by default, as the new overclock kernel has the files needed for it.
3) The new kernel also allocates an additional 65MB of space for a swap file, making the overall speed greatly improved.
For these advantages, there are a couple of things 'broken':
1) Only auto brightness works (you cannot set your own brightness level)
2) No WEP encryption for the wireless tether (this is inherent in the wifi tether program, not the ROM)
I've been using this for a couple of hours now, and so far, so good. Everything is still optimized a la birdman, and the additional swap memory allows for speedier transitions between memory hogging applications (i.e. from gallery to browser to home screen, etc).I won't be able to gauge the battery life, obviously, until I've had some more time with it. Still, overall, it seems speedier than both the original Sholes.info 1.0 RC, and birdman's V4, which before this, IMO, was the best ROM available.Anyways, the ROM can be found both at alldroid and at sholes.info. I won't be providing any links.Other adventurous flashers can use this thread to discuss this ROM. This may be the last great 2.0.1/2.1 ROM, as now that 2.1 is open sourced, I expect developers to flock towards that.

I am always conscious of battery lately, this is actually kind of annoying. Its extra work to get the GPS enabled when trying to use google maps. Why can't it just auto enable when one touch? I don't enable all these features (except refresh for push email) bc I'm so paranoid about this darn battery.... Plus, I'm always killing apps. Just want to know what you guys keep running and how your batteries are fairing.

Found a few threads about people having problems transferring their phonebook to their hands free kit in their automobile. Had the same problem myself - was able to connect and pair with the car kit. I was able to make and receive calls, but didn't have the phonebook.
Then yesterday, while setting in the car, I was going to re-pair the connection between the phone and car I noticed that in the Notification Bar that the car was asking permission to receive the phonebook from the phone. Opened the Notification and granted permission and clicked on always grant access (or something similar). Phonebook was then transfered. Haven't had a problem with it since...

So one of the cool things about Froyo is being able to check off Enable Automatic Update for market apps. So i have that checked off for like 80+% of my 80+ apps (that took a while to do let me tell you). Now i have had three apps have updates available since i checked off the box, yet they never actually automatically updated. I waited, hours, still never updated. Is there a setting i need to modify? Do i need to tell it what time of day to do it? Anyone else noticing this? I only really want it in apps that i don't care about reading the new features. But it is annoying that i have it enabled and it does nothing.

I've been exploring the Android test package and I'm very confused on how to implement functional testing for endpoint-to-endpoint.
Consider the example below, I have 4 activities: 1. A Contact List Activity 2. A View Contact Activity 3. An Add/Edit Contact Activity 4. A Sync Contact List activity
I want to automate a few tests that will go through multiple test cases simulating a user experience: From launching the application, to selecting 'Add contact;' opening the add contact activity, entering data, saving it, going back to the list activity, and verifying the new contact was saved properly.
As I understand it, ActivityInstrumentationTestCase<T extends Activity> and ActivityUnitTestCase<T extends Activity>, are only useful for testing single activity functionality.
But what if I need to switch between 2 or more activities inside a single functional test case?

Ok it seems to me that most of android phones came without tethering (officially, I'm not speaking about rooted phone due to possibile warranty issues).
I know that there is pdanet that add this support but 29$ is damn expensive, and it looks like a win/mac only (I'm a linux user).
All my phones had tethering capability (and i have a tethering allowed dataplan) cause I do need tethering is some circumstances, and I don't think that I am the only one!
Is there a list of all tethering enabled android phones?
If not i could be usefull to have some kind of wiki style list of tethering enabled phones.

Background: Bought an Eris several weeks back. Had AOnline Radio and DroidCumulus installed. Phone broke, got it replaced at store with another Eris. Tried to download both apps, could only find/download mms lite, a similar but inferior app by the same company. Emailed support, and their response was:"AOR, DroidCumulus are Security enabled apps.If your device is not categorized as secured as per android market, then you will not be able to see the app."Does anyone know what this means? Is there a setting that I can change? Why would one phone be security enabled and not another that should be identical?

My boss recently gave me an HTC Wildfire phone for doing an Android version of one of our mobile apps, which is all fine and good, except that the app requires API level 8 (ie Android 2.2), and the phone itself only has Android 2.1 installed. After much googling, I discovered that this phone does support Android 2.2, and carriers will be rolling out updates over the air for this model phone "in the near future". Since I'm not entirely certain what our lazy carrier's definition of "near future" is, it would be nice if I could download images for particular releases and install them on my phone. Coming from the world of the iPhone, it seems that this should be something rather necessary in order to successfully develop an Android app. Yet, it doesn't seem that Google offers any Android OS updates themselves. Have I no choice but to wait for the carrier to release an update?

Droid X 2.2 OTA Root. My SetCpu isn't working now. I have tried the following unstalling the app, reinstalling the app, clearing the cache, force stop. I can't get for setcpu to ask me for permission for SetCpu. Everytime I press Auto Recommend it just goes into a blank black screen. Relaunching the app does not solve it either.Edit Unrooted my phone and rerooted my phone and reinstall setcpu same issue.I have also removed the root and did a factory reset and then rooted but the same problem. Edit Added some logcat if anyone can understand them.
