View 3 RepliesHowdy gang: Back in the 2.0.1 days, I rooted my droid, using the "root your droid.com" guide. I never did anything with it, never loaded any Roms (planed on it, just never got around to it) When 2.1 came out, I did the OTA. After the OTA, I still have the "super user" ninja icon. Now I want to jump on the 2.2 bandwagon and I need root. But do I still have root? how can I tell?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have rooted my phone and am using the wireless tethering and can use other rooted apps. But when I try to use the adb shell and the su command, I am getting Permission Denied. Anybody know what the hell is happening? I am rooted using the Droid 2 method with the 2.2 OTA updae.
View 11 Replies View RelatedOn the original phone, I went back to stock using the "live without fear" .sbf file, to 2.01. I had attempted to also let it do the 2.1 update but it continually gets stuck on the M and won't proceed past that, so I again put the 2.01 sbf file on, and let the phone get to the "touch the droid to begin" screen. The phone has the original recovery on it, the box and explanation mark, no SPRecovery or clockwork. Can Verizon tell at this point that the phone was previously routed and charge me full price for the replacement?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy droids battery life has been miserable and overall the phone has been acting pretty flaky lately. I recently went back to rooted 2.0.1 after running the cyanagen rom. I re enabled OTA and want to just try stock 2.1 for now and see if it fixes my problems before I take it into verizon. After I enabled OTA's it downloaded the file and asked if I wanted to install the update which I said yes to. Phone shut down and restarted and ended up on the Clockwork Recovery screen. I said to reboot and the phone just comes back up in a rooted 2.0.1 version still. It says its running 2.0.1 and the system is up to date.Whats the easiest way to get to 2.1 and unroot? Help please!
View 10 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if I can easily switch from 2.0.1 and Humancyborgs 2.1 rom on my Droid. My droid is rooted and I have run the 2.1 rom but I switched back to 2.0.1 because of some issues with the rom. I am hoping it is just a matter of swapping out the Nandroid files like I did when I returned to 2.0.1. I am missing the cool features of 2.1!

View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I switched to the 2.2 leak and decided to do the .sbf method to get 2.1 back because I thought 2.2 was a bit buggy for my tastes. Unfortunately, when I had gotten 2.1 back on my phone, I could not activate. It simply said it cannot do it. I tried switching back (again) to 2.2, same problem. Tried manual user activation via ##7762726, still nothing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAlright, I'm new using android phones and I know there a tons of unnecessary apps running on the background. Coming from a BB user, I used to shrink my OS so I could use only what I needed. I found out that a lot of of preinstalled stuff on my phone that is always running on the background, skype mobile, amazon crapware, my verizon, and so much more. I searched how to remove all that stuff and I found out that I need to root my phone, I rooted my phone, and now I want to know what do I need to know in order to use adb, or access the phone using the terminal.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHas anyone used Good for Enterprise on a rooted phone? My company's now mandating we use this to access our corporate email, and they mentioned we couldn't use it with rooted phones. Does anyone know what'll happen if I try to install Good on a rooted phone? Or, could I re-root after I install Good? Also, if I have to unroot, will Titanium Backup still maintain the frozen state of my Verizon bloatware? Otherwise I should be able to just use Root Explorer and rename the .apk files, right?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently rooted my motorola droid and installed bugless beast froyo 2.2 and every time I try to use Superuser Permissions or Setcpu, it says that Superuser permissions is not responding and makes me do a force close, or send a report. Is there any way to fix this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been on the fence about rooting my droid, and looking through these tutorials it looks simple enough.
1. What are Kernels and do I need them exactly
2. Do I need a specific ROM to overclock or will just a plain rooted phone work
3. Do I need a nandroid backup?
I ended up rooting to BB0.2 lastnight, did not have a chance to download 0.3, I have not installed any kernals yet, but just wondering why my camera and power buttons no longer work? do I need to script them, and what is the point of typing in scripts anyways, it just seems like more work to do rather than pushing a button to power off the phone. Also, if there was a problem with instalation, how do I revert the phone back to stock and start over, stock meaning non-rooted
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter a day of successfully using cyanogen, my phone does not start any more. I have had it charging for a while and nothing happens as I hold the power button. Nothing on screen, no LED, the only LED that is active is the charging white one on the side. I'm so lost and have no idea what to do. Rooted with easy root, if it matters.
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust wondering what apps you guys have uninstalled fromm your rooted droids... I'm really getting annoyed by some of these apps like google talk storage, alarm clock, and calender launching themselves when they have no business at all running. And even regular apps do this which baffles me why people make apps that launch themselves I wish we had user acccount control I bet someone will make this type of app for rooted devices one day.

View 3 Replies View Related1) What, if any, is the BEST ROM based on these criteria
a) STABLE
b) supports all features of a NON rooted Droid phone properly - can be v2.0.1 for all I care, I would just re-run this same list at a later date for a custom ROM running the official 2.1 or later equivalent I suppose.
c) while accomplishing all other criteria listed, still allows for overclocking by the USER - i don't mind using another app to do this - allows tethering and other applications which would typically require ROOT access
d) Accomplishes or at least allows for VOLTAGE and/or PROFILE adjustments to help fine tune battery life while balancing performance - again, doesn't really matter to me if I end up having to pay for an app to addon to accomplish this................
I rooted my x last night, and was wondering where and how to download custom ROMs to theme my droid x. I've been looking around on websites for custom ROMs for the droid x and it's all really confusing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had my phone rooted just running stock 2.2, last night an OTA came to my phone while I was at work, and my brother (doesn't know anything about root) accepted the update. Now whenever I try to do something in Rom Manager I get an error message :"an error occurred while attempting to run privalaged commands." Set CPU does not work, and Super User is still in my app drawer.
Does anyone know whats going on, it appears my phone is no longer rooted, but I still have SU in my app drawer, how can I fix this? Is there a way to completely unroot my phone? or revert back to where I was before the OTA? Everytime I try to load Rom Manager and restore my phone it gets stuck with a picture of a phone and a "!" mark.
So the other day I rooted my phone and it just keeps restarting on me. Cant get into recovery mode or anything. Now I gotta send this phone back to Verizon and I don't want to send it back with it being rooted cause I don't want to get charged for the phone. Now my question is how can I mess up my phone so Verizon don't know that I rooted my phone. This may sound dumb but I kinda need a way to fry it or something like that.

View 26 Replies View RelatedOn previous phones such as the Droid Eris and Droid 1, users were able to use custom boot animations without being rooted. All you had to do was push the new file to the boot animation location and it would over ride the old one. I really want custom boot animations on my X but am not rooted. Does anyone know a solution to this other than rooting and how to install without being rooted?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to know how many people are useing froyo non-rooted and rooted.I'm tyring to diside on what should i do?I also looking for advice on if i install Froyo Rooted, what can i do with it? and install on it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedCurrently I have an Eris with v3 Leak meaning I can't root. But my wife loves my phone so I plan on giving her mine and either getting another eris and rooting or a Moto Droid and rooting. I've been trying to read up on the Droid and the different ROMS available and have some questions.First I want to make a few things clear:
1. This IS NOT a phone comparison.
2. The Incredilble IS NOT an option since it can't be rooted and I don't want to spend $200 on it.
3. I'm looking for WELL INFORMED OPINIONS, if you don't have one keep moving there is nothing to see here.
To be fair I've obviously done a lot more reading on the Eris which is why I'm looking for well informed opinions from Droid owners that way I can make a well informed decision.
Well, it's being reported, however not confirmed that the Droid Incredible has finally been rooted. He's also reporting that he's OCed to 1.5GHz.What's more he's working on 2GHz.Good Lord, could you imagine?I've been saying that as of right now, based on personal preference, that a rooted Droid is the best option. But this will def start to sway opinions, including mine.

View 9 Replies View Relatedhow do you setup a rooted phone? aka, what do you do with a phone immediately after you root it?
id like to start by saying that i do not need the classic "if you dont know what you're doing, dont bother" root lecture. I'm looking for someone to inform me, not brush me off to feed their tech-ego. people tend to get really snotty when it comes to rooting, and dealing with people who do not know as much as they do on the topic. we all have the right to learn and obtain information.
i am posting this because i would like to understand more about rooting. feel free to verbal diarrhea and show off your knowledge in a helpful way! i have the following questions:
-Does it speed your phone up?
-Does it cause problems that normally would not occur using stock rom?
-Does it REQUIRE extensive knowledge of using command prompts and things of that nature? If so, are their tutorials and guides and sites you can refer to online to help you with this stuff?
-Once you root your phone, literally immediately after, what is the next step? "Flash" a rom, what does that do? And then what? And so on......
These questions may sound snobbish, but I've read up a decent amount on rooting, yet its hard to truly understand whats going on without physically seeing it, but obviously I cant see it cause I dont want to do it unless I know EXACTLY what it entails. And their are no videos on this, just videos on how to root, but never any videos on what to do AFTER you root.
