Last week I noticed all my text message threads were gone from my phone! I have heard people complaining about this in the past and it happened to me. What is more surprising is that a friend told me today that his complete CONTACT list was deleted from the phone! What is going on with these Droids that are making them delete information like this?

My unrooted droid on 2.1 deleted all my text message threads in the stock messaging app even the locked ones. What I don't get is ALL the picture messages are gone but the dialer storage is 10.6 mb. What the heck? It should be almost zero.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo my droid just deleted about 1,000 or so text and picture messages among 5 or 6 different threads. I don't know what I could have done to cause this, as I've had "never delete messages" selected since day one.
I've seen a few more instances of this happening on other forums, but no mention of it here. Has anybody else run into this bug? It's infuriating.
I am using the original Droid and use the Handcent SMS app for messaging. I am not receiving incoming texts and have the error message stating that my message memory is full. I just deleted all threads about a week ago so this was surprising, but regardless I deleted again. I double checked both messaging and handcent and both are empty. The only answer I can think of is that I have some kind of backup storage setting, but I can't find it anywhere on my phone!
View 2 Replies View RelatedGo into your phone contacts and pick a contact you have texted. On the open field below the contact, slide to the right and you will see a list of every text message you have sent and received from that person even if you deleted the messages!
Delete contact and re-enter the contact.
Supposedly to be fixed with an update?

I have deleted several of my text message threads but they show up in my contact history and I cant get rid of them how do I permanently get rid of them . where they show up in contact history is if you delete a text thread and then you go to that persons contact info and swipe left 3 times the text thread is there , how do you delete this from this location ?

Is there a reliable program I can use to back up the more important text messages I get in the future (say all texts from a specific contact)?
To add more info to this, I did not have delete old messages when limit is reached check. I had thousands of messages in my inbox before the deletion.
This is really annoying, what good is a phone that can't reliably store text messages?? As I said before I had several very important locked messages that are now gone as well.
I just learned how to root my Droid X tonight and was going through the "pre-approved' list of "deletable file" and ended up deleting my Text Messages icon and have been unable to open texting and this sucks. HOw can I get it back on my phone so I can send/receive text?

However, on my home page there is (WAS) a text messaging icon, a voicemail icon, a browser icon, and then a market icon. Somehow a second text messaging icon showed up. So there was my normal original text message icon, and then a larger one above it. So I tried deleting one of them, it would not work, so i tried the other one, did not work. Then I turned off my phone and turned it back on and now they are both gone. I tried hitting menu, then add, then motorola widgets and then messages, but the only option for a text messaging icon is the red message icon, i was the actual text message icon, HOW DO I GET IT!!?? It's bugging me very badly.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out why my text message 'conversations' are merging so that they get lumped under one main 'person'?
I've only had the phone a couple days, so not a ton of messages yet. But a couple of times now, all messages have gotten 'lumped' together under one user, regardless of who they are received from or sent to.
The first time it happened, I cleared the entire thread. But now it's happening again. Even forwarding a message to someone else gets included in the same thread.
But it seems as if the messages are going to the right people, not sure. The problem is hitting 'reply'. Not sure who will get it.
Last night I downloaded the Handcent SMS client, and am using that now (disabled the notifications, etc., in the default SMS client). The HTC SMS widget seems to work OK with the Handcent client thankfully, but it is only showing the last 'conversation' of a long thread. So not sure if it's a default message app issue or not.
My droid deletes all my text messages randomly. I've had it for 2 1/2+ months and it has done it twice, leading me to believe that it happens every month, regularly, because it always happens at the beginning of the month. The last time it happened, I brought it to the Verizon store but all they do is blame the consumer for any faults with software because Android is open source. Is there a way to get my texts back and how can I solve this problem? Is there an app that deletes text messages every month or so because of a hidden setting? Is there a solution to this problem without reformatting (I have my contacts, calendar, and a bunch of other stuff on my phone and also apps and I don't wanna delete anything).

View 35 Replies View RelatedJust today I have started having a strange issue with Gmail on my Droid. If I delete a message from my phone, it appears to delete OK, and disappears from the phone. If I go to the computer and log in, however, the message will still be there, no matter how long I wait. This is causing my Gmail counter widget I have installed on the phone to show an incorrect number, as it is counting the messages on the server, not the phone. No matter how many times I try to resync Gmail, once I delete a message from my phone, it will not show back up on the phone, but will remain on the server until I log into a computer & delete them from there.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been finding that since the update, my phone opens up text message threads that I didn't tap.This mostly happens when I am going through menus quickly because I'm in a hurry.For example, I'll have one text thread open, hit the "back" button to go back to the list of all the threads, tap the thread at the top of the screen (or anywhere really), and it opens up an entirely different thread.It's not like it's opening the one right above or below it because I didn't tap accurately most of the time it opens up a thread that was so far down that it wasn't even shown on the screen.When I'm in a hurry I've sent texts to people that I didn't mean to send them to.This is really annoying.anyone else having this problem?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a galaxy s 3 on sprint with cm10 installed. I use handcent for my text messages but obviously the standard messaging app is still installed and when I open it I can view all my text conversations going all the way back to when I got my phone.
How can I back these up in a text file or otherwise so I can store them on my laptop?
I just noticed something that is quite annoying in the native gmail app. If you "reply" to an email, but change the address you are replying to, you lose the ability to see the original message of the thread on your Droid. Here is an example. A friend of mine, Jane, was organizing a ski trip and sent out and email to the 20 people that were going with the details (dates, addresses, prices, contact info, etc). I replied to the email, but changed the address to John's email, because he was going to be driving me and I didn't want to reply to all. John and I continued the thread with multiple messages back and forth to setup details of when we were leaving. In all versions of g mail (on both my desktop and my Droid), I see "Jane, Me, John (8) >> ski trip details..." for this thread. When I am in the browser version of g mail (either desktop or the Droid browser) I can click on the thread and see all 8 messages. However, in the native g mail app on the Droid, I click on the thread, see the last message, and behind that it only says "6 read messages" (there should be 7 more) and when I expand them, Jane's original message is the one missing. The thread comes up though when I search for Jane's email address or any of the text within Jane's original email. But I can't read it.

I got an automatic update for 2.1 on my HTC Legend last week, it is now reversing the whole of each thread for text messages. that is it shows the oldest messages first, and i have to scroll through all the messages on that thread to read the new one i have just received. some of these threads are 100's of messages. and i need to keep some of the info on them etc so don't want to delete whole threads. Before the update it showed the newest message first and was great. can't find anyway to change a setting for this.
View 7 Replies View RelatedJust switched from the iPhone 4S to the Galaxy S3. I wanted to transfer my small handful of text messages from the iPhone to the S3. I found an app called iSMS Grab, and was able to accomplish this pretty easily. However, now the stock messaging app seems sluggish and, when I try to delete older threads, they just won't delete. I've tried doing so with a long press and thru the Menu button. I then uninstalled the iSMS Grab app, cleared data thru Settings > Apps > Messaging > Clear Data, formatted the microSD card, and even removed the SD card - and they still won't delete!
I know the ultimate fix is a factory reset, but I have over 1100 contacts that I've spent a full day configuring ringtones and Caller ID photos. I'll reset if I must, but hopefully I can get some feedback from experienced users here. This is my first day with an Android phone.
First of all I am very pleased with the Droid (including the keyboard) and Android OS 2.0. Have been playing with it since december 13th and I especially love the texting app. In my home, Berkeley CA, it worked great, but now in Puerto Rico there seem to be some glitches. I turned off the auto delete messages because I prefer that. Not sure if its because I disabled the auto delete or because I am in Puerto Rico, but randomly when I go to my texting app, all my threads will be gone. This has happened to me twice now within a week.
