Motorola Droid :: Outlook Sync - Non Exchange -yahoo - Will This Work
Nov 22, 2009
I am new to the andriod thing and just recently obtained the Moto Droid. I am desperately trying to figure out a way to sync my outlook (non exchange - yahoo) account with it.
I have searched the threads an unable to find any answers thus far. I have already looked into Compainion, gschink (sp) which continuely lost #'s, contact names and company names (thank god I had other back-ups), and MyLink. I understand that if you have an Google account this works some what in a way and I have also used a few online exchanges but they all just don't "SYNC" all information. I am coming from a BB and I understand that the Droid is not a BB but I really like so many of the other features that if I could just get this machine to sync in a business manner I would keep it! I am coming close to my 30 days and have to either get this to sync or put it in the box and return.
I came across this site www.hyperoffice.com and because I am not so familiar with the android os I'm not sure if this is a solution or not. I am asking the vets here if this is something that could be mine and so many others answer to the full features of syncing?

I would love to be able to sync my phone for personal use with Outlook at home and also connect it to my exchange server for email and calendar as well.Does the X provide Outlook syncing of any kind? Can I sync my calendar from Exchange onto this phone and how about the Exchange Global Address List?I read somewhere that Verizon will charge 15.00 more a month for me to connect to an exchange server. Is that true?

A few months ago, I started a thread regarding the problem that VZW and Motorola both identified as a problem with MS Exchange Server 2003 and 2007 not sync'ing right away.
Corporate Outlook/Exchange Sync - Push
I called and spoke with a tech at Motorola and said with the next OTA for the Droid 2 (which just happened) it was supposed to fix it, however it didn't. Does anyone on the inside have any insight as to what's going on? I'm back to using Improved Email for instant push delivery of my Exchange messages.
I did get the OTA the other day, and the version number did change, but nothing of significance.
Really starting to get pissed with this phone with I mostly use it for my job and e-mail. I shouldn't have to rely on a third party application for delivery of my e-mail. G-Mail works fine, but Exchange works about 5% of the time without me having to go in a do a manual refresh...then 10-20 messages pop up.
Fresh install and no longer rooted.

I just got my D2 the other day and have it all setup, but something I've noticed differently from the D1 is that all my Outlook/Exchange e-mails take 5-10 minutes to be delivered even with the Push feature turned on. On the Droid 1, the messages were delivered instantly ometimes even before they arrived in my Outlook client at my desk.
I have it setup as a Corporate Sync account with all the same settings, but I feel like they have taken a step backwards with the Corporate Sync settings. I'm running 2.2.20 (rooted of course), but it's just a hit or miss when the messages come in. I did call VZW's tech line and the lady on the phone said there was some memo about this issue. She didn't mention if there was a work around, or if a fix is coming. It's almost as if the Sync button doesn't do anything.

I just got my first Android phone, a Droid 2.I previously had the original BlackBerry Storm which when I first got it I loved but after a very short time I came to hate for it's crappy interfaces terrible performance and so on. But one thing that it did very well was work with my corporate exchange email.I use rules to move new email from the inbox to folders that really help me to keep my email organized, which is very important since I get 200-300 emails on a normal day and many more when there are emergencies at work. As each was moved to the appropriate folder I would get my notification on my BB and could go read the mail. However now that I am using Froyo, I find that it can see all of my emails and shows the correct folders and so forth but I only get notifications for email that is in the inbox. This does not work well especially when I have a customer emailing me with an emergency.
Is there a way to setup my rules so that they wait for 6 hours (or whatever time I select) before they are moved to one of the other folders so that I can still get my notifications on my Droid 2 but still keep the mailbox relatively organized?I hate the idea of running the rule manually because Outlook requires you to select each one individually and since I have about 50 rules this is a hassle, another option would be to make the rules Client Side only but I cannot seem to find a way to do this either so if anybody can give me instructions on this that would be great.Of course if you have a way that you use for this that works better please let me know as I am open to suggestions, these are just the options that I have come up on my own.

Is there a way to sync my outlook and exchange data as the same appointments and info on my phone? For example: When I was on winmo, my Exchange appointment and outlook appointment would update each other not create a duplicate. Now that I've synced my PC, I have the same appointment twice on my phone. Green for Exchange and Orange for Outlook. Is there anyway to keep the data the same? In other words, if I have a 5pm meeting on exchange, and I sync with outlook, I want both sources to update the same appointment. Not create another 5pm meeting.

I had been recommended Active Sync to sync with Outlook but now i find that it's for syncing with Outlook Exchange. (i'm using plain vanilla Outlook, no Exchange). i happen to run all email via a gmail account for backup, spam filtering, emergencies when I don't have my laptop) so syncing email is not an issue.

I am looking for the best way to sync my Outlook with my Droid 2. I am a single user, don't have MS Exchange or Google Apps. I want to be able to update both in Outlook and on my Droid and have them sync.... with the least amount of problems and applications.
I don't mind paying a (moderate) fee, but it seems like TouchDown and some of the other recommended apps require MS Exchange.
2) If I do need MS Exchange, what's the best way for me to do that?
3) I remember reading that the upcoming Droid Pro (for Verizon) will have the inherent ability to sync Outlook and the Droid (I'm not positive but I believe it will) - does this mean that there will be a 3rd party application, or an update to Froyo 2.2, that will be released afterward to allow this with other Droids?
ANY help or suggestions would be appreciated. I've spent hours and hours trying to come up with a solution (as I know others have), and I'm hoping someone can enlighten me.I am leaving on a trip in a few days and I have to get my Outlook synced before I leave.I'm desperate.

Can't find the answer, but there are many unsolved threads. I have duplicate entries that are re-occuring events that were changed in Outlook via computer. They change, but show up twice on my DINC: same event, same time, same place, etc., but only once via PC.I am trying to solve and here's a question: when you go to calendar > menu > more > Calendars > what choices do you have and what do you have checked? I have "'My Calendar"; "Exchange"; and "PC Sync" and I feel like I should only have one checked, but don't knwo which one. I am new to Droid and want to stay, but this is killing me.

I'm a developer writing an application to sync Outlook 2007 contacts with GMail. These are regular local-PST contacts, not Exchange, and yes, for now I'm exclusively focused on Outlook 2007 since that's what I have available. I may look at older versions (which I own) if this one works out. Anyway, I've tried most (all?) of the sync apps and didn't enjoy the experience. I've done the export/import thing and consider that a temporary fix. So I decided to do something about it myself.
The application I have today runs in the background and periodically pulls contact data from both systems. It can identify matches using a variety of prioritized criteria, and it has a way to systematically decide what data needs to be updated in each contact list. It can write changes to both sides. So it's largely done -- except for some decisions about that sync methodology.
The tricky thing about sync is that the GMail and Outlook contact data fields are totally different.
For example, GMail allows unlimited e-mail contacts which are tagged as Home, Work, and Other. By contrast, Outlook only supports three e-mail addresses, and they're not tagged at all. What should a sync app do if the GMail account has four addresses, but only three Outlook slots to store them?
A different example: GMail also supports unlimited phone numbers, also tagged with about six categories. On the other hand, Outlook can handle sixteen phone numbers, each with a fixed category. Some are a bit odd, like Radio Telephone. What should the sync app do if the GMail account has three Work numbers? Outlook only has Business 1 and Business 2...
Granted, these are what programmers call "edge cases" -- they won't apply to most users. But I'm hoping to find some people with large, complex Outlook address books who will weigh in with opinions about how they'd like problem cases handled.
Here is a comparison of the contact data in each system (exlcuding largely similar fields, and excluding the vast array of Outlook fields that simply have no GMail equivalent)--
E-mail Addresses:
GMail: Unlimited, tagged as Home, Work, Other
Outlook: 3, not tagged at all
Phone Numbers:
GMail: Unlimited, tagged as Home, Work, Mobile, Work Fax, Home Fax, Pager, Other
Outlook: 16, one each of Primary, Mobile, Car, Home, Home 2, Business, Business 2, Assistant, Callback, Company, Business Fax, Home Fax, Pager, Other, Radio Telephone, TTY/TDD
Postal Addresses:
GMail: Unlimited, tagged as Home, Work, Other
Outlook: 4, one each of Home, Mailing, Business, Other
IM Addresses:
GMail: Unlimited, tagged as GoogleTalk, AIM, Yahoo, Skype, QQ, MSN, ICQ, Jabber
Outlook: 1, untagged (probably should equate to MSN, but...?)
Generic "Other" Field:
GMail: Unlimited, tagged as Home, Work, Other
Outlook: No direct equivalent
Web Address:
GMail: No direct equivalent
Outlook: 1, not tagged
The contact name is a special case. GMail does a poor job importing Outlook contacts since it leaves the name blank on business-only contacts. I guess Google devs only talk to their friends. The app I've written will fix your imported list in GMail by substituting the company name if the name is missing. Lots of little stuff like that is easy to do. It's the "unlimited" lists in GMail and the many places where there isn't a direct correlation that are creating questions in my mind.
When something doesn't quite match up should the app simply not do anything? Or would you prefer a partially successful sync? What about some sort of manual conflict resolution? What other options would you like to see in a sync app? (Limited to sync activity and contacts -- I don't plan to mess with ToDo lists, calendars or anything outside of contacts.)

I just got the Epic and love it. However, when I try to sync my work email, it keeps giving me a "Unable to open connection to server."I use Microsoft exchange for my email and am using the same settings I used on my moment and pre, but it just won't connect. All of my contacts and calendar events are on this and I need it for my job.I would be willing to use a 3rd party app if necessary, I just need this to work.

At work I have more than just the email calendar. I have a design calendar for allowing my sales reps and project managers to post events to. I also have my main email account calendar. I am the owner of both calendars but the only one that syncs with the stock calendar app is my email account calendar from outlook. This was very easy to do with my windows phone. I just ticked the calendars I wanted to sync to my phone. Was just like my outlook program at work. Showed my owned calendars and let me decide which ones I wanted to populate to my calendar app. I cannot find a way to do this on android. The only calendar it gives me is the main email calendar. I do not want to allow everyone in my work to see my email calendar just so it will show up on my phone easier. All the people can see the design calendar and edit it. This allows them to schedule projects and can see available bandwidth for my department.
Is the rift between google and MSFT too much that neither of them allows the other to do things, or is this just samsung not empowering their app to see other owned exchange calendars?

So I am a proud owner of a brand new Nexus One. I love it, but have hit a small hitch.
I am previously an iphone user and got quite a lot of use out of syncing my work (exchange) calendar onto my iphone and using it on the go to keep track of meetings and such.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like this is native functionality in Android 2.1? I was able to set up my work email account with active sync, and that works fine... but when I look in the Accounts area of settings and select my work email, there is no option to sync Calendar.
I have read that you can use the google calendar desktop application to sync your outlook (via plugin) to your google calendar, which the Android device could then pull down... unfortunately, like many users in a professional environment, the IT group here refuses to give me admin privileges on my work computer. I tried installing the google calendar app into a non-protected directory, but when it tries to activate the Outlook plugin it simply fails with an error listed as 1008. Upon looking that up, it of course says it is user privileges related.
In addition, if my work PC is off, I wouldn't get those new meetings pushed to my device anyway... so that is a big hassle as well.
Is there a free way to get this done WITHOUT the google calendar desktop app? I have all the account info I need (hell, I already set this up many times on my iphone over the years)...
EDIT: Also I would like to state that I don't want a separate calendar app... I want to use the base Android one. I'm fine with getting an app to enable that, but I don't really want to have 2 different calendar apps to go through...

I've got a Windows 7 laptop with Outlook 2010 beta on it. Loving 2010, but HTC Sync doesn't seem to want to work with it. I've asked HTC, and they say it don't work with 2010. If anybody knows a way of making it work with 2010. Alternatively, I'm considering buying Outlook 2007 to use instead. Does HTC Sync work with Outlook 2007? I want to sync contacts, calendars, and anything else it might sync!

I am trying to use my new Droid to connect to our Exchange 2003 email. I can access it just fine when I am on the companies Wi-Fi (both OWA and Active sync), but when I try to connect from the internet, I cannot see either. Odd thing is that if I use Opera Mini 5 Beta on my Droid, I can connect to OWA, but the default browser wont allow it. My Iphone is working fine on both networks, so I know the system is working properly.

I got an incredible yesterday.Been trying to get Exchange active sync to work. The problem is that no matter what option I choose in Schedule (as items arrive, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, etc...), the phone always defaults back to Manual.Nothing I do will make the change stick.I've tried a battery pull, deleting the account multiple times and re-adding it.I even installed the trial version of touchdown to make sure push email was set up correctly on the server and it works perfectly in touchdown.Any thoughts?I've done about everything I can think of.I don't want to buy touchdown because this should work for free.

For people who want a fully automatic way to keep both Calendar & Contacts sync'd both ways between Outlook and Google Gmail / Calendar.
I've already done a lot of research on this topic as it is currently the most important item I've got to have working in order to keep the Droid. It seems like nobody really has a great solution yet, but there are some in the works. This thread can serve as a master list for Outlook sync software.
Here is what I've found so far:
CompanionLink $40 (released, sounds like the best currently available): Sync Microsoft Outlook with your Google account and your phone | CompanionLink
Missing-Sync $40(update: Released. Calendar syncing is now supported, but requires additional app installed on phone.): Keep your life in sync with The Missing Sync for Android from Mark/Space Appears to be the best all-in-one solution for syncing Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Docs, Media and more. Includes 'Proximity Sync' - syncs wirelessly & automatically w/ your computer.
gSyncit $15 (released, but lots of problems reported by users. EDIT: Some favorable reviews in this thread, may have improved reliability): http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/gsync/
SyncMyCal $25 (released): Share Outlook Calendar Free, Google Calendar Sync, Pocket Outlook Google Sync - SyncMyCal
Anybody using this?
OGG Sync $30/yr (Not yet released): OggSync - Sync Google Calendar and Contacts with Outlook and Windows Mobile Device Sync (including Microsoft Office) Blog Archive Real... Native... Google Contact Sync — OggSync 4.0
Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook $50/yr (Requires Google Apps Premier or EDU Edition):[url]
Are there any good free apps out there that can sync Contacts? Tell me and I'll add them to the list.

Ideally I would lie my work meetings to pop-up in the calendar on my droid.I cannot install google calendar at work thanks to a picky IT department. So, what I have done, is forward my emails/appointments to a secondary gmail i created for work use, that i can then sync on my personal laptop.my problem is that, my phone was setup using my primary(personal)gmail and the calendar program will not let you add a different email other than the one they setup for me when i created the phone.how can I change the primary email on my phone to the one i set up for work so I can sync that one with the calendar.
