Motorola Droid :: Monsoon Volcano For Those Waiting For Sling / HAVA Support
Feb 1, 2010
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ CES Monsoon Multimedia, a leader in video convergence technologies and maker of the popular HAVA place-shifting products, today announced Volcano, its next generation home video convergence device. Volcano incorporates major features of TiVo (time shifting), Slingbox/HAVA (place shifting), Roku (Internet video such as Netflix movies) and new functionalities that support streaming and recording video to smartphones, all in one box. Volcano supports all major smartphone and computer operating systems such as Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Symbian, Windows Mobile, Windows and Mac.Volcano allows consumers to schedule and record any of their familiar TV channels remotely from a smartphone to the Volcano's hard-drive and watch the video at the same time or transfer the stored content to a smartphone for later viewing. This can be accomplished through a 3G or Wi-Fi connection from anywhere in the world including airplanes, cars, trains, offices or hotel rooms. Unique, integrated players and EPGs (Electronic Programming Guides) can be downloaded by Volcano users on to any of the popular smartphones or their Windows/Mac computers.
Smartphone users on average can download 128 hours of video or 84 movies of 90 minutes duration on to their phones thanks to Monsoon's powerful video compression technology. Computer users can download considerably more content on to their hard-drives. A full-length movie can be downloaded on to a smartphone in minutes using a broadband connection. Smartphone users also have the option of viewing any program live without recording it.With the included hard-drive and a remote control, Volcano can also be used as a TiVo DVR at home. Slingbox/HAVA features included in Volcano enable consumers at home or in remote locations to watch their TV programs live on their smartphones or computers. Volcano is connected to the analog output of a set-top box. At 150kbps uplink speed and by using Monsoon's new technology deploying H.264 compression, Volcano now allows consumers with lower uplink bandwidth to stream video to the Internet and view the video in high quality in remote locations.

There is a real good thread that includes instructions along with verified downloading sights that for the regular Droid (does not require rooting and can be done over the air or through a pc). Is there available now, a similar solution for the Droid X?

I have looked through all the settings that I could find and I have not been able to find the setting to disable call waiting. Does anyone know how to do that? Is it even possible? I personally prefer to have call waiting off. I do not want incoming calls bothering me if I'm already on the phone.

So is anyone still waiting on progress to be made on the bootloader before going OTA? With root of course
I am having rare stability issues with Flyx / Tranquility on 2.3.9. I never went past this update/combination.
Im thinking if going to 2.2 OTA and rooting seeing as though it seems like no work is being done on cracking the stock bootloader. I know it is, but we haven't gotten any info from anyone lately. What are you guys doing?

When I am in a phone call, sometimes my phone will beep as if I have a call waiting. But I don't. It beeps every 5s or so. The only fix is to restart my phone.

I updated to the official (rooted) version of Froyo and tried to reinstall Sling player but it's just not on the market. My wife can find it on her 2.1 handset but I can't. Is there a reason for this that I'm not privy to? Will the backed-up copy work?

They have a whole website dedicated to iGo Nav N Go for Android and it's not available? What a tease. They already have it on the Iphone and Windows Mobile. If they wait too long they are going to have to compete with Navigon and Google's own navigation software. I've personally used iGo Nav N Go on my HTC Eris and like it a lot.(Don't ask for links or how to.) I'm willing to purchase it when it's released.

I swear I tried this at some point and it worked, but I checked with Motorola about whether or not the GPS receiver will work when the phone is in airplane mode. They say it doesn't.Can anyone confirm whether or not the GPS (not aGPS, just good old fashioned, slow to download datum and get a fix GPS) works when in airplane mode?I'm traveling overseas to Japan, and only want to use wifi and GPS, so I thought I'd just leave the phone in airplane mode the whole time, but I'm really going to need GPS working (I'm using Maverick Pro for offline maps). I'd go out and try it, but it's snowing and crappy, and I don't want to sit outside that long

Being that i have the original droid and its not a year old, i think im just going to wait to get a new phone. Rooting has already taken the droid to 1ghz and beyond, plus froyo is available too. Verzion will be redoing their network soon, so that means many phones will be useless. I really would like to tryout the droid x, but the only way for me to get it is to pay outright or buy it off of ebay. The droid 2 will be coming out soon, but the specs on it are kinda shady right now. These are just my thoughts. What are yours?

I do a lot of MMS where animated gifs and 3g2 files are quite common. After searching I found some old threads indicating android doesn't support anim. gif (back then), but found nothing on 3g2.
Is this still the case for gifs and what about 3g2? Different messaging app or browser perhaps? My bud's Hero plays anim. gifs fine and it runs android...

Most Motorola handsets will have multitouch from here on out.
In an interview with Laptop Magazine, Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha had this to say:"I think you will see us deliver multitouch in the majority of our devices going forward. Theres a complex set of factors, not all of them technical. But I think youll see us being proactive on multitouch because the user feedback on multitouch is very good."

I had assumed that the Motorola Droid supports the new multitouch APIs in Android 2.0, but the reviews of the device I've seen so far say that it isn't used, at least in the built-in apps like the browser (e.g: http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/30/motorola-droid-review/ ). Apparently though, it is supported on the upcoming GSM version of the same handset [url], so perhaps it is just an issue of whether the driver is included on the Droid version of the software. Can anyone with access to a Droid confirm whether the multitouch API works on it?

Either way stock or modded this phone is just buggy.and there is something, wrong with the microphone. Can they tell ota that the phone is rooted? I'm going to return it to stock before I send it back to them, but don't want to do it till I know they are going to replace it.Last time they checked to see when the last tower update was, but I don't know if they were checking their info or my phone info.

I have a wi-fi adapter and I can make an ad-hoc network from my PC but can't use it as an access point via Connectify or Virtual Router. I tried getting a physical router, but had so many problems that I eventually gave up! I know there are lots of programmers out here, so can anyone put up a hack/mod for supporting ad-hoc networks on the Droid 1?

Anyone know where to find support for the ToggleSettings app by Cooolmagic? I have edited my "Low Battery" profile to set screen brightness to zero, but every time I activate that profile, the brightness sets to 80%. Doesn't make much sense. Also, when I plug my Droid's charger in, the profile switches to my "AC Powered" profile, as it should, but when I unplug it, it doesn't switch back to the profile it was on before plugging it in, as the settings in this rule state it should. Finally, there is a setting I can manually toggle called "APN Data (GSM)". The Droid is on the CDMA network, not GSM, so what does activating / deactivating this setting do?

This is a stupid question, but I never had it right on any phone. I can figure out complex things, but When I answer a call waiting, how do I switch back and forth between the original conversation? Do I press send? Is there any way to conference other than Google Voice?

This may have been said before about incoming messages or maybe calls, but I'm wondering how to turn off vibrate during call waiting. In other words, when I am on a call and someone else calls, the thing continues to vibrate. I would just like a beep or two.

Running on a Droid 4 with no mods. Email is a POP3 based account.
Are there any apps out there that will show on the email icon that messages are waiting? Right now, all I am getting is the update in the top status/notification bar. If I clear that bar out, I have 0 notification without going into the actual client. BB would show a red * on the icon, and iPhones show a red circle with a number in it on the mail icon. I'm looking for something similar on the droid.
