I do a lot of MMS where animated gifs and 3g2 files are quite common. After searching I found some old threads indicating android doesn't support anim. gif (back then), but found nothing on 3g2.
Is this still the case for gifs and what about 3g2? Different messaging app or browser perhaps? My bud's Hero plays anim. gifs fine and it runs android...

Does anyone know if the droid supports animated wallpaper? I think it would be pretty sweet looking if the red"eye" that flashes during the phone boot was the wallpaper. Anyone know if this can be done?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been reading these forums for a while deciding to trade in my old dumbphone LG VX8300 on an Incredible. As a software engineer, I do lots of study before I commit. So yesterday when I get my new Incredible, I'm shocked to find out that the browser doesn't support animated GIFs! I don't care about the ones with smiley faces poking another smiley face in the eye with a stick, but most of the weather apps use animated GIFs to simulate live radar. That is one of my big uses on the old VX8300 (I do lots of motorcycle riding in the summer and want to know which way the rain is heading)The Weather Channel, AccuWeather, etc. all think they have moving radar images but none of them work. I did find RadarNow in the app store but that wasn't sufficient. I eventually found that WeatherBug Elite ($1.99) has moving radar images (they must use a different technique). I finally found a discussion over at the Android developers list of known issues Issues - android - Project Hosting on Google Code that discussed the issue. The developer has made a change for Froyo for large memory phones like the Incredible to enable animated GIFs. There is a mention of this over in the Motorola Droid forum, but with all the new folks jumping on the Incredible, I thought it might get better visibility here. So here's one thing that Droid doesn't. that the iPhone (and my ancient dumbphone, and Blackberry, and Palm, etc.) does.I just thought I'd share my experience so others can find it later.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was able to get the animated live wallpapers working on the 2.1 ROM (only Nexus does not work). Disclaimer: This can brick your phone and should only be done if you know what you are doing and are willing to take the risk, I bear no responsibility for your actions. Directions.
1. Download this zip file, it contains the necessary lib files and the live wallpaper files. wallpaper files - MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service lib files - MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
2. Unzip these files and place on your SDCARD. (I created 2 folders one named libs and the other app). You need to place the four Live wallpaper files in the app folder and the lib files need to be in the lib folder.
3. Restart your phone in the recover console.
4. Select mount sub-menu
5. mount sdcard and system
6. type busybox cp /sdcard/libs/* /system/lib
7. type busybox cp /sdcard/app/* /system/app
8. unmount both sdcard and system
9. restart your phone
just wondering if anyone thinks with the 2.1 update coming it might give us droid owners and nexus one ppl a similar animated weather wallpaper option like on the hd2..just a thought..would like to hear what people think

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have several animated gif's I had converted over to png's with Fireworks 8 but when I place the frames in the folders part0 & part1 then use the developer SDK software and upload the bootanimation.zip files they will not work. I have other bootanimation.zip that work but I can't figure out what the difference is.

They say it doesn't.Can anyone confirm whether or not the GPS (not aGPS, just good old fashioned, slow to download datum and get a fix GPS) works when in airplane mode?I'm traveling overseas to Japan, and only want to use wifi and GPS, so I thought I'd just leave the phone in airplane mode the whole time, but I'm really going to need GPS working (I'm using Maverick Pro for offline maps). Development geeks have ALREADY got the HTC Desire ROM working on the Nexus One EURODROID - Google Android phone news. Its for nexus one and has watermarks so its not available yet but im sure this will accelerate the availability of flash for us.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had assumed that the Motorola Droid supports the new multitouch APIs in Android 2.0, but the reviews of the device I've seen so far say that it isn't used, at least in the built-in apps like the browser (e.g: http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/30/motorola-droid-review/ ). Apparently though, it is supported on the upcoming GSM version of the same handset [url], so perhaps it is just an issue of whether the driver is included on the Droid version of the software. Either way stock or modded this phone is just buggy.and there is something, wrong with the microphone. Can they tell ota that the phone is rooted? I'm going to return it to stock before I send it back to them, but don't want to do it till I know they are going to replace it.Last time they checked to see when the last tower update was, but I don't know if they were checking their info or my phone info.

I have edited my "Low Battery" profile to set screen brightness to zero, but every time I activate that profile, the brightness sets to 80%. Doesn't make much sense. Also, when I plug my Droid's charger in, the profile switches to my "AC Powered" profile, as it should, but when I unplug it, it doesn't switch back to the profile it was on before plugging it in, as the settings in this rule state it should. Finally, there is a setting I can manually toggle called "APN Data (GSM)". The Droid is on the CDMA network, not GSM, so what does activating / deactivating this setting do?
