View 5 RepliesOn the HTC Desire how do I tell if my phone is using the Internet? I have 500mb of internet and I dont know if my phone is on the internet after I close the browser. e.g. If I just return to the homepage after using facebook, does the browser automatically close and does not count as Internet usage anymore?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI seem to be seeing an issue with the data network access on the EVO. When it happens none of my applications get internet aceess and my mobile network status says "turning on". The only way I've found to fix it is to pull the battery. Any one else seeing this? If so is there a better fix than pulling the battery?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAre there any inbuilt classes ya methods that help to count the number of bytes sent/received. I'm trying to develop a light weight browser and am doing this as an option. As mobile users are charged based on the bytes they browse. I think this is a mandatory requirement but the more I google it The less I find?
View 2 Replies View RelatedB4 I buy PdaNet for tethering my new DROID, I really need to know how Internet usage is measured, so I don't get hit with a huge data overage bill. Specifically, how much is being used by Skype w/video. Also, what about using the legal poker sites, e.g. Pokerstars, U.B., Fulltilt, etc. As far as bandwidth/downloading, is safe to tether to all these sites, or is there cause for concern re: going over 5GB per month. On MyVerizon, they tell you what your up to date cell minutes for your monthly cycle are, but I don't see that for the Internet; how do you know where you stand?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I've had my DHD for 3 days, done a little 3G browsing the usual stuff Facebook, emails etc., but nothing more as I used my home WiFi for the widget and app downloads. But today I got a text from Vodafone saying I was near my internet usage limit for the Month! Within 3 days!? I have a 750MB limit, which the chap in the shop assured me was enough to keep me happy as 'no one ever goes over that.'
I was happy with that even though my previous contract was unlimited internet as he said it would be ok. All I can think of is the email syncing, so turned that off. But what else could be causing me to go over the 750MB limit within 3 days? Surely thats a huge amount to be used?
I switched from an iPhone to the Captivate on July 27. AT&T will rue the day! Has anyone else seen a sharp increase in your data usage?
View 16 Replies View RelatedO2 have changed the bolt on I had from unlimited usage of internet to 500mb per month. The row I had with them was of no benefit. Anyway, in the space of 3 days I have used 100mb already & haven't really been using browser or downloading (I did obtain album artwork for transferred music files on Mediascape though). Is it possible that Timescape updates of Twitter & Facebook are draining my monthly allowance? I would check emails on the phone too. Haven't been watching YouTube or anything like that.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've tried to see if others have had data problems like mine, but apparently no one has posted on something of my magnitude.
I have 1 Gb of data a month...thats one of the biggest plans in Canada, and I cannot increase (student plan maximum). A few weeks ago, my 3G watchdog alerted me that I was over my 1Gb, and this was in a week span of a new billing cycle. I called Telus and they said it was a mistake, but later on my data usage on their site said I had used 500 Mb on that day!
Since then I had a few more instances where 400 or 500 Mb has been used on a day (almost all outgoing or transmitting data). This has to be a syncing problem or a bug. Not only do I not stream radio or youtube, but I usually only use facebook, twitter, read yahoo email, and weather updates.
I had to get a datablock for the rest of the billing month (since I had used up 2.2 Gb in 10 days) and now I'm monitoring my data wifi usage through data counter widget.
It would be wonderful if I could figure out what app is sucking all of my data...I have about 500 friends on facebook...I also went though and deleted almost all of my emails in my inbox (which was the problem with motorola data usage).
Yesterday, I was on the net on postsecret, and then on facebook (maybe 15 minutes total). Upon returning I saw I had used 510 Mb of transmitting data....
The only advice I got from Telus is to format my phone and start over...No other problems with the HTC desire have been reported to my provider.
Just wondering if anyone has found a good app to keep track of data usage. Curious because I know Verizon only allows 5gigs and want to keep track of my usage to better manage it. I use a lot of data because im tethering my droid to my desktop for internet - saves me $35 a month, no more giving comcast money for internet.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering, has anyone figured out if the X will prioritize using WIFI for data usage instead of 3G if it is available? Will WIFI show up on my plan as data usage?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI don't know if it's my phone or what but when I look up the Other Usage on my phone, it shows it "Running" more than 2/3 of the time. And on Network Usage, "Android System" and "Media" use a great deal of the phone as well.I think this might have to do with my "android.process.acore" crashing every once in a while when it's asleep. Based on everyone's feedback I might have to return the Moment for a third time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedDroid connected to Wifi.Good signal.Yet when I check, there is always SOME Non-WiFi data usage. Maybe 300kb every few hours. Not a lot but why isn't the Droid ALWAYS using the WiFi if it's connected?I'm with PagePlus so I don't have unlimited data.

Its just annoying. Anyone know a work around this. I am Rooted i also have Tasker (but not that good where i can figure out how to do this) Does this happen to everyone is this just the network not being able to handle text and data at the same time. It worked fine on my old iphone.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy eris has always has pretty alright battery life, what I would expect out of a smartphone, if unplugged at 9AM it usually was running on its last leg around midnight. I've had it for over 5 months now, I've always had it activated on alltel, I installed the 2.1v3 leak before the official OTA was out and just lately it seems like there something very wrong with my battery life...
If I unplug my phone at 9AM within the past week and occasionaly check and respond to a text message, my battery had been down to almost 30% by NOON... what?..
I have noticed that if I disable Mobile Network (3g/1x data), the thing lasts all day and some... If I turn mobile network ON, I can't see that I have any network traffic or any apps running in the background that are syncing data at all... I've had google account sync mess up on me before and have to reset my google account because it gets stuck in a syncing loop, but its not doing that, already checked. Very weird.
Anyone thing it could be something wrong in my ##PROGRAM#/##778# provisioning menu, maybe something got changed?.. Maybe it could be do to Alltel's AT&T merger that's happening right now, maybe some 3G tower's radios are turned off or something...
I installed the "Data Toogle" app and tried it out this morning for the first time. Well when I got home, I attempted to re-enable my 3g internet and it won't connect, even the 3g icon is not in the status bar.My Droid is with Page Plus if that helps. Can someone please help me out with this. I searched Google non-stop and the only information I find is how to turn off data.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have one question thats really been bugging me because I can't seem to find it any where over the internet. My question is, Can i totally block off Data Usage through just the phone itself? Is there any possible solutions? I want this phone, but just to have the wifi capability, I do not want any expensive data charges. If this phone is not possible to do so, I know some are, but I do not know which. How about the Htc Touch Diamond? Or any other phones you guys possibly know of that can disable the data function.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI plan to upgrade to a 4G LTE device this year. Typically, my usage on my 3G device (a Droid 2 Global) runs less than 1 GB a month. Have any people experienced increases in their monthly data usage after switching to a 4G-enabled device? And if so, do you think it would be due to the fact that you're consuming more data at a faster rate, watching more videos, streaming more content through your cellular data network because of the increased capability?
I'm trying to decide between buying old technology off of a third party (e.g. Droid 4/Razr Maxx at no contract) or upgrading to the latest and best (GS3/Razr Maxx HD) for the same cost, but losing the unlimited.
I am on a debranded Orange handset running Android 2.2. Had the phone for around 4 months without issue. I went to London last weekend and started noticing problems with the mobile internet. I was largely relying on it to get me around but the mobile internet is playing up. Even if I have H or 3G signal, my phone has suddenly stopped getting internet access or i get network errors. Nothing has changed on my handset and I usually get good signal wherever I go. I'm currently in work where I always get 3G symbol. I have the 3G symbol now with both arrows animated yet my web browser won't load anything and the market place just says I have no network access. Could this be something to do with the Orange/T-Mobile merge? Or has my phone died on me?

View 7 Replies View RelatedAs much as I dislike bringing up the word iPhone, I know it has a nice little thing built in that keeps track of your text / voice usage in comparison to whatever plan you have. Considering I'm on a family plan and didn't get a whole lot of texts (yay for google talk!), it'd be nice if I could quickly and easily check my usage Anyone know if there is an app for this / something that verizon has that supports this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've noticed a few people have complained about high standby data usage.. ie when you leave the phone on a desk, with nothing streaming, you still manage to use up 1-2mb per hour (as I was!). This is a big problem for people moving from something like a blackberry where it was hard to use up a lot of data even if you tried.I tried disabling as much as possible to see what was causing the problem (NetSentry was great for tracking usage but of course can't tell you which programs/services are using it up), and after exhausting all ideas I tried deleting the two non-GMail email accounts I had. On was set up as push Exchange, and the other a 15-minute polling POP account. I have to assume it was the Exchange that was the problem, but I can't be sure. In any case, my usage dropped from about 4MB over 3 hours to about 12kB for the last 3 hours since I disabled the accounts. In conclusion, email can be more of a problem than you think! I'm going to forward my other accounts through my GMail to see if that works better.
View 43 Replies View RelatedI'm on a family plan with my wife and 13yr old son. We purchased a Galaxy S4 for our son as a Birthday present in October. However, as of recent his grades have taken a dive. We notice he eats, sleeps and breathes on the phone. He primarily uses it for surfing the net, instagram or youtube. We were thinking of grounding him and removing his phone but we need him to have his phone as a point of contact. However, is there anyway to stop his data usage. I realize there is a setting on the phone to disable data usage but it is fairly easy to re-enable it.
Is there anyway to lock or password protect the phones settings or data usage?
I tried googling but the results kept yielding information relative to the "lock screen" which isnt what im looking for.
I'm having an issue with using my Eris while connected to my home wifi network. The problem is that after I successfully connect to my network, I am unable to browse the internet, access the Market, or use any music apps which require internet access. I have verified that my phone is capable of doing all of this while connected to an unsecured wifi network, however, my network is secured. I'm not sure if that's what the issue is.A little bit of info about my home network - I have a Motorola SBG900 cable modem w/built-in wireless access. I have it setup for b/g network, WPA/PSK, etc. The strange thing about this is that I have two laptops, & my iPad setup on the same wireless network and all of them are able to access the network with no issues.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the app "network" from market, now I would like to restrict my phone, but I don't know which category suits or meets what I am expecting the result to be. Sprint voice and 3g.
My options are:
WCDMA Preferred
GSM Only
WCDMA Only
GSM Auto (PRL)
CDMA Auto (PRL)
CDMA Only
EvDo Only
GSM/CDMA Auto (PRL)

I am really wondering is should I use cdma only or cdma auto (PRL)? And what the heck is WCDMA?
i was looking is spare parts and i noticed that the usage for "0" was higher than any of the other programs i have used. what is it and can i possibly reduce it so that my battery will last longer? i also noticed every time i wake up my phone the 3g arrows light up and stay on for a few seconds. im wondering if that is related. anyone else having the same usage or know what it is??
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just signed up for these forums because soon I will be an HTC Desire owner in Canada. Having never owned a smartphone before I do have a few questions. The plan I intend on signing up for is the Telus Student 40 and that will come with only 100mb of data. Now I don't see myself being too data using heavy so I feel like I will be able to live with it. However I do have some questions regarding my data consumption.
1. Is it possible to completely stop all data usage by somehow disabling the data connection if I find myself reaching my limit?
2. What are ways to track my data usage to make sure I don't use too much data?
3. What are good ways to conserve data usage? I'm getting the feeling that there are some applications that will constantly be sending data back and forth updating themselves, is it possible to have these applications but stop them from constantly updating and only have them update when I want to access the application?.........
