Sep 7, 2010I couldn't find the answer to my question even though this thread seems to dance around it.
There is pretty much only ONE reason i want root on my droid x: to rename all VZW bloatware. That's it. I don't want to overclock. I don't want to get rid of blur. I don't want to custom theme or anything. All i want is to rename the bloatware apk's to bak's.
So my question is, if i root my original 2.1 droid x and change the bloatware app names, when the OTA is getting pushed, will i receive it and be able to upgrade just fine? I realize that if i get the official 2.2 it should break my root and i'm ok with that because right now for me official 2.2 > official 2.1 with bloatware renamed. Mainly since i am confident 2.2 will be rooted soon after it comes out.
Lastly, is the universal and root still the simplest way to root droid x 2.1?

Sep 25, 2010I used this to try to root. How to Root DROID X Running Official Android 2.2 - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog and well when I hook up my phone to my computer its telling me that it can install the driver. (Its never done this before when I had 2.1) the SDK program wont even do screen shots for me so thats the main reason I am trying to root. I know thats a dumb reason but still. I know this isn't much info but its all I got for you. I did run the root program and it said my phone is now rooted and no errors occurred. I know its not rooted cause the screen shot applications are not working on my phone.

Sep 22, 2010I've never modded/rooted my Droid X, right. I do the manual update Settings - About - Update or whatever and it updates. It supposedly finishes and after it reboots I get stuck @ the Motorola "M" screen indefinitely. After that it wouldn't start up @ all and wouldn't respond to anything. So now I'm attempting an SBF root. Is this the right thing to do?

Nov 20, 2010i bought a motorola milestone online thinking we werent getting it on canada anymore . which i think is UK version? so i accepted the fact that i had no 3G on it and was aware that the phone frequency and cariier frequency were different. so when i decided to root my phone according to: MILESTONE 2.1 update and root guide - Android @ MoDaCo
i didnt know which SBF file to pick the telus canada one where im from or UK where the build number was the same as mine and where i think my phone was from.. i couldnt unzip the gz file and it kept gicing me errors on the telus canada sbf file so decided on flashing the telus canada one. (and was hoping maybe my 3G would even work. everything ran smoothly and my phone was rooted but now i realize i have no signal on my phone at all. no text or voice calls.. just wifi. i did my research and people suggested that i put APN which i did but that didnt solve the problem also i read that for custom roms theres those 5 files File_Audio , File_Audio2 , File_GSM , File_Seem_Flex_Tables , generic_pds_init that i was suppose to copy and then replace after the root but i was stupid enough not to back up.. so now im stuck and i dont know what to do.. is there an sbf file i can use cant even restore to factory settings because i dont think itll change my firmware..

Aug 6, 2010I got the Galaxy from my mother (she switched to another phone), but she lost the USBcable. I found a way of sending files via WiFi to the sdcard, and also connected adb via WiFi, but I can't flash the new recovery because I'd have no WiFi connection in fastboot. Is there a way to flash an official update from the sdcard using stock recovery? I successfully entered recovery but there are no options, and I can't find a guide of any kind. I tried buying the cable, but none of the shops had the official one, so finally I bought a third party cable that only charges the phone through usb, but windows gives me some error and doesn't recognize it as a device.

Sep 23, 2009I am getting calls going straight to voicemail with no missed calls on my phone, when I have full signal, so orange have (after a lot of calls) agreed to terminate my contract. I have to return my phone (shame I could not keep it for free!) and have rooted my phone, and installed the modaco ROM.
I want to return it with an orange ROM, and was wondering if I can just install the updated orange ROM on my phone over the top of the modaco, and has anyone done this successfully? From reading around I am assuming that this would hide the fact that I have ever rooted or installed a custom ROM, as I want to be back on warranty?
