I got google voice and on the settings it has the option to turn off sms forwarding to mobile phone. I have it unchecked but whenever someone texts my GV number, handcent app gets a text. is there some other setting I am missing. It is on a moto droid btw

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but does anyone know if you can set Google Voice Lite on my droid to not send so many notifications. I love the program, but when someone leaves a message, I get a text, email, and the google voice icon all in the notification bar.
I am using my old verizon cell number and just using the google voice for the messaging function.
I just would want the google voice icon to light up and then i can go right to the program.
I set up a google voice account and when someone texts me on my GV number, it sends one to my normal text messaging app and my google voice one....How do i stop the normal text msg app from receiving the google voice texts while at the same time allowing it to receive texts if someone texts my normal verizon number? Make sense?

Will i have to go INSIDE the app in order to send and receive texts? or will it literally replace the built in text functionality on the android phone itself?
If i have to go inside of an app, then this is not for me, i mainly am a huge texter.. and i would like to resume using normal texting procedures not have to go inside of an app.

Would it be possible to add a line of code to the Google Hangouts app on Android to receive forwarded Google Voice calls as it does on the iOS app?
There's been apps like Groove IP that are already able to provide this feature. I'd just like to have this functionality without having to install any 3rd party apps that always have to be running in the background. Google Hangouts is already the primary sms app for Android & so it is already able to receive texts, mms, along with video and voice chats. Thus, it should be somewhat possible to receive call forwarding from Google voice.

Ever since I've reinstalled it it refuses to use the carrier voicemail and insists on fowarding to my Google Voice account. Now this isn't terrible except for the fact that since it insists on going to Google Voice it takes 45 seconds to pickup. I really want my google voice number and my vzw phone # voicemail to be separate.

I have read recently how some have gotten an invite the next day and other have waited two weeks or longer. That said, could the N1 be delaying the invites? The Google Voice YouTube channel promotes the fact that the N1 comes with GV pre-installed. Does anyone know if this also includes an invite? I am will to be patient for a little while on GV, but if I have to wait too long, I may just have to go with YouMail.

Up until today, whenever I got a text message it notified me through Google Voice app on my phone.The same thing with voicemails.But what happened today is that it isn't notifying me for some reason.To actually "receive" the text messages and voicemails through Voice, I have to go into Google Voice app and hit "refresh".Under "sync and notifications" for settings in Voice, I have "synchronize inbox" checked as well as "inbox notifications" so that I'm notified in the status bar when new items arrive.And like I said, up until today it was working flawlessly, but now I have to hit "refresh" to receive them in Voice.

This works when I am not answering the phone and I the caller gets connected to my GV account. But when my phone is not in coverage the caller gets my version voice mail. Appreciate if someone can correct my settings or suggest any app that does it. I am from Windows mobile world and missing those settings when you can define several settings for voice mail (unanswered, rejected, unavailable etc...)

I had thought it was just a voicemail service, I didn't know it affected your calls and texts as well. I didn't like it so I signed off. But two weeks later my phone started doing that call screening thing where you have to press 1 every time you answer a call. I went back on google voice, signed back on, and found that it had intercepted all of my texts calls and voicemails and kept them without telling me. I just need to know if there's a way to stop it. I would uninstall it if I could.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI finally changed the voicemail system on my Hero from Sprint's "visual voicemail" (which is misleading because it doesn't transcribe voicemails) to Google Voice. It's nice to see my transcribed voicemails now. However, when I actually want to hear them (if the transcription didn't work well), it only comes through the external speaker; the speaker on the back of the phone. I went into Google Voice settings and under "Voicemail Playback" I tried the only two options: "Play via Handset" and "Play via Speaker." Unfortunately, both play through the speaker phone speaker. How do I change it to the phone speaker? I also can't adjust the volume, so the whole world hears my voicemails through the external speaker.

From my understanding google voice does not support that. I did read about an application called iTim for the iphone which allows you to use MMS through google voice. Is there any such product for the Android? Having SMS/texting through google voice would save $30/month on my cell phone bill, so it's kind of a big deal.
