Feb 10, 2010As the title states, I want to use my Google Voice text messaging but I would like to do it through Handcent, or even the default Messaging app.If I send the initial message through my GV app, it shows up in my Handcent inbox.The thing is, to reply using Handcent you have to respond to a 406 number that uses my text messages.My end goal is to do all my texting with GV and not have to pay my provider for it anymore... if this isn't possible yet there HAS to be someone working on this.

Aug 3, 2010I set up a google voice account and when someone texts me on my GV number, it sends one to my normal text messaging app and my google voice one....How do i stop the normal text msg app from receiving the google voice texts while at the same time allowing it to receive texts if someone texts my normal verizon number? How does it work with SMS/texts?
Will i have to go INSIDE the app in order to send and receive texts? or will it literally replace the built in text functionality on the android phone itself?
If i have to go inside of an app, then this is not for me, i mainly am a huge texter.. and i would like to resume using normal texting procedures not have to go inside of an app.

Nov 7, 2010I'm having a problem that just started today for some reason (maybe I messed something up).I've been using Google Voice for texting as well as sending/receiving phone calls. Up until today, whenever I got a text message it notified me through Google Voice app on my phone.The same thing with voicemails.But what happened today is that it isn't notifying me for some reason.To actually "receive" the text messages and voicemails through Voice, I have to go into Google Voice app and hit "refresh".Under "sync and notifications" for settings in Voice, I have "synchronize inbox" checked as well as "inbox notifications" so that I'm notified in the status bar when new items arrive.And like I said, up until today it was working flawlessly, but now I have to hit "refresh" to receive them in Voice.

Oct 21, 2010Had my desire for about 4 months now, tres happy with it, one of the first apps i downloaded to use instead of the stock was Handcent for SMS.Today I take it out to send a text and the conversation screen is blank!Can't find texts anywhere - including if I go into the traditional 'messaging'.And then to top it off, I send a text to my sister and it goes to my wife!? Despite the conversation window showing the correct name and profile photo.Anyone else had any issues with Handcent? Reading other posts, I now know that its also a battery drainer, so I'll be uninstalling it, but I'd like me messages back first!

May 12, 2010I was wondering if anyone has been using Google Talk exclusively for SMS and ditched their texting w Verizon all together. I mainly ask as I am curious how reliable it is as a replacement for SMS. I'd love to cut my phone bill by $20 a month. My friend (5-6 months ago) said he was having issues w Gtalk in regards to some msgs not sending, or he never actually received them to his phone. He had issues with his N1 on Tmobile. Is anyone still experiencing similar problems? My SMS MUST function and be completely reliable as I use it constantly to communicate with my managers.

Dec 10, 2009This is a multi question post kinda =). If I kill Handcent with task killer and put my phone in sleep mode with a single press of the power key I will not get any texts until I wake my phone up and then they all roll in. If I don't kill the task I seem to get texts while the phone is idle and asleep. Also I set the default text app the hancent now when ever I send a text it only opens handcent which is good, but if I receive a text it opens handcent the default app and google voice.
Any ideas on how to sort this out ? I did a forum search but did not find any thing that solved my issues.

May 5, 2010Searched for this but didn't find anything. I have my GV voicemail set up to go directly to my voicemail box (no pin) when dialing voicemail from my phone. I have everything configured correctly on the GV site and on my phone (dialed the *71GVNumber). When I call my voicemail it just rings and I have to press * to get to the PIN prompt. Is there something different about the Incredible that this doesn't work correctly? I had this correctly setup on my Storm2.

I did some searching and people with the regular droid said that you go to settings -> text to Ipeech and can change it there (i changed it to british eng) but I did that and the nav voice is still regular english? May 5, 2010First android phone and am trying to use google voice for as much as I can, working decent so far, but several issues have come up, if anyone can address them.
1) Anytime Google voice is open, SMS notifications occurr basically instantaneously. Sometimes when it is not the open app, notifications for messages do not appear for up to 30 minutes (you can tell from the timestamps). I do not see any options about syncing frequency in the google voice app. Is there any way to rectify this?
2) SMS notification sounds. I can't find any way to make custom tones for each contact. The typical solution I've read is to use a custom SMS app, but can't do this with voice. Any workarounds?
3) Are there any 3rd party apps that handle any aspects of google voice SMS or customization? Some searches found nothing.Overall I'm pretty happy with using voice as my SMS, just want to make it as good as I possibly can.

Apr 28, 2010l know not many have received the phone, but if you know the answer to this (by experience or just knowledge) feel free to comment!I like how gVoice can be fully integrated into 2.1 (on the N1). Does Sense change anything, or can one still achieve the same full integration with Sense involved? I would like to exclusively use my gVoice number when my phone comes in, but I don't know if it will be smooth, seamless, and fully integrated, or if it will be the way it is on my Blackberry Tour right now.

Apr 22, 2010Hopefully next Thurday I will have 2 Incredibles. I have a google voice account and phone number. Currently mmy wife and I's cellphones both are connected to google voice, however when we call out they still see our number which is fine.
I know when I get the incredible I can set it up to you google voice to dial out and they will see the google voice number. The question is, does this work for 2 phones without screwing up other google services. i.e. I would like if both my wife and I could make outgoing calls through MY google voice number and the other side see the google number, but I want her phone setup with her gmail account etc and mine setup with my gmail account, etc.
Does anyone have this setup currently, or anyone at least know if this is a not possible thing?
