just started 2 days ago, everything but my gmail contacts will sync. it's so bad that the battery dies in a matter of hours due to the constant sync. I turned off auto sync until somebody fixes this. just wondered if I am the only one

I entered in my gmail information to my new droid and it sync'd with my contacts on gmail, all 5 of them, 'deleting' my previous contacts. I say 'deleting' loosely because when I look through my contacts none are there, however if someone sends me a text it has them saved with their number. Is there a way to restore/retrieve my contacts?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI logged in to my gmail and needed to send email and it wouldn't suggest contacts anymore. I went into contacts and all of them gone except the ones that only had email field filled in. The groups that i created are there but no contacts.
I went into my phone and google contacts are there but they won't sync, errors out with "sync is temporary down".
All this creates another problem for me, I have phone contacts and google contacts in my Eris. Phone contact are synced to PC and all is good but I need my google contact in my gmail so I can email people and I have no way of putting them back to gmail and don't even know how to back them up.
I recently called someone and wanted to add them to my contact list. In call history, I clicked the little file picture and added their name, saved it as a google contact, and saved it. If I go to People, the name doesnt appear. So I went to the People app, entered their info, made it a google contact, saved. Still didnt work. Even manually synced my google account. So then I changed the "view" to show every option and slowly ticked off each box til I realized that only if "show auto gmail contacts" is ON does my new contact appear. It was also "linked" to 3 other contacts (the same one that I kept adding over and over wondering why it wasnt appearing). So, of course I do NOT want everyone I've ever e-mailed in my contact list, so the question is, how can I add/save any contacts and make them appear in People?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've tried posting this on other threads but have gotten no replies. Forgive me for starting a new one. I haven't synced my contacts to Gmail since January because I found the way it would garble them all up annoying. But I got the OTA on my phone & wanted to make sure they're backed up before I go ahead w/the installation. Problem is, it has been acting like it's syncing for over 12 hours now & all it's doing is draining my battery. It still shows that it hasn't been synced since January. Also, periodically during the sync attempts, the "too many contacts deletes" notification pops up. I always tell it to delete everything. And it's odd that one time it'll say 505 deletes & the next time it'll say 502 deletes & it keeps getting less. I don't get it. need to back up my contacts before I install 2.1 right?

My problem is, I am wanting to do something so simple, I want to sync my contacts on my phone to my gmail account so that it's backed up (if anything happens to my phone) But i tried going to settings and it wont let me do it (maybe i am doing it incorrectly). View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been reading up on the concept of push email, and how it's supposed to be a huge battery saver (since in theory, the phone would only receive a notification of an e-mail, and not the actual e-mail itself). I have also been reading up on how the "Gmail" app's version of Push email is not the same as other Push e-mail software, in that it requires the phone to "Sync" whenever an e-mail hits the Gmail server. As a result, whenever I would try to turn Auto Sync off (supposedly to save battery), I would no longer be able to get my e-mail notifications in real time.
With this in mind, I attempted to find another application that would enable me to use Push email for my Gmail account, without having to "Sync" with Gmail's server. After messing around for a bit, I found that I could manually input my Gmail account info (Incoming Server, Outgoing Server, Username, Pass, Etc.) into the stock "Email" app that comes with the X. Once this was done, I was able to enable "Data Push" in the "Email" app's Settings menu (as well turning off any Polling intervals). By doing this, I was able to receive new Gmail notifications through the "E-mail" app, even when Auto Sync had been turned off. As a bonus, I received them around 15 seconds faster than I did with the "Gmail" app's version of Push.....
My girfriend just got the Eris and it synced contacts from her gmail, into her phone contacts. Was nice becase they couldent sync the contacs on her broken phone. Can droid do the same thing? Also it let her sync her contacts with facebook profile. This put the facebook picture next to the contact, and found birtday for the calander. IS this somthing that droid can do?

As long as the contacts are in my contacts everything syncs fine. when I put contacts in those groups that I created they never show up on my phone. Is there a setting I am missing? First and foremost at random times my 3G is turned off even though I haven't turned it off...go into the setting and it says its still on. Only way to turn it back on is to turn it off and then turn it back on? Any ideas just a problem with the phone maybe. Didn't know if anyone has encountered this problem
Second is there and application that I can use that will let me select what things will startup with a reset of the phone? Also is there an easy way to reset the phone without a battery pull? I just like to do this when Unistalling apps and installing apps...always seems faster after downloading or Unistalling after I do this.
I have 3 gmail accounts. 1 gmail.com and 2 @otherdomains.com but using gmails service. My contacts will only sync with the gmail.com address. In my settings everything is checked to sync. What gives?

However she now needs to return the phone for service (silent call bug) and she went to G mail to ensure all her contacts was backed up... they are not. It seems the contacts are stored on her phone (Eris) and not in g mail. How can we import all of her contacts from the phone memory into G mail?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running 2.1 V3 and every time I try and formulate a new text message using the standard messaging application, the contacts field will not auto-populate suggestions when I begin typing someone's name (they used to come down in a drop-down list which I could select from). It has always done this before and I don't really know what changed. In order to send a message to anyone, I have to now click on the "person" icon next to the "To" field and wait an unbearably long time for the list to come up and then scroll to the contact I want and checkmark the person. I have tried restarting the phone...battery pulls...etc. Aside from a factory reset.

I've searched through this forum but can't seem to find anyone else reporting this.I've had a G2 for approx 3 weeks now, however, the thing just won't sync Gmail as it should - either via Auto-sync or by manually trying. I've had a G1 for the last 12 months so feel experienced enough to know when something's not quite right. I am using the G2 in exactly the same locations as the G1 so it cannot be a reception issue. I've tried sending test emails from my work email address to my Gmail account: Out of the 10 test emails sent over the space of 8 hours, only 2 came through (the G2 was on Auto-Sync the whole time). The others eventually came through via a combination of manually instigating Sync (1 success) or, in most cases, having to switch the phone off and on - even this only worked twice. Whenever I sent emails from work to G1 they would appear on the phone instantly. There isn't a prob with the emails leaving my work domain as I can see that they have all been delivered successfully viewing my Gmail account over the web. If I leave the phone on the Data Synchronization screen, the round sync indicator is constantly running next to "Google Mail" and intermittantly pauses with the error message that "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shorlty". have also found that the reception doesn't appear to be as good as the G1 - I work in central London and live 10 miles south of the river.I'm running FW 1.5 Kernal 2.6.27-a5504199 Software 1.0.0.A6288

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Verizon Galaxy S3 with Cleanrom Seven installed stopped automatically syncing my gmail. I can manually refresh my mail, but it does not sync automatically despite the sync being enabled. I've also wiped data, removed my google account, and even done a factory reset without restoring any google data...and although it occasionally works temporarily, it always stops working. If a factory reset won't fix it, I don't know what to do anymore.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI can't stand the fact that the Facebook app automatically adds my Facebook friends to my contact list, but they don't show up when I open the People icon, only when I'm choosing the contacts to send or forward a text to.I want to be able to sync the contacts I have with their Facebook profile, but I don't want Facebook automatically adding contacts to my phone.And I can't just diasble auto-sync because there are programs that apparently need it running. The only other option I can think of is to completely remove Facebook from my phone and that's bullsh*t.I know it sounds confusing, but does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this? It woulddn't be such a problem, but now when I go to pick my contacts to forwards to, I have hundreds of contacts instead of the 95 or so I had before.
View 1 Replies View RelatedCurrently if I add/modify a contact in gmail it will sync without issue to my phone But if I happen to add a contact onto my phone or change something on my phone, that contact is not being synced to my gmail contacts (it stays on the phone, just doesn't go into gmail as well). Thoughts? I currently only sync 'My Contacts' from gmail to my phone not sure if this matters or not. I don't see an option to sync the other way as I did when using Google Sync on my blackberry.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've checked my phone's sync settings, synced several times, logged in and out of Gmail online to see if anything has been updated. No such luck. Icon by phone numbers saved on phone is a cell phone, rather than the letter "G" which typically represents contacts pulled from Gmail online. I've had this issue - I believe - with my previous Samsung. Although I've seen this question brought up before, the answers are typically not device specific or have not been useful and clear to follow.

First of all I am very pleased with the Droid (including the keyboard) and Android OS 2.0. Have been playing with it since december 13th and I especially love the texting app. In my home, Berkeley CA, it worked great, but now in Puerto Rico there seem to be some glitches. I turned off the auto delete messages because I prefer that. Not sure if its because I disabled the auto delete or because I am in Puerto Rico, but randomly when I go to my texting app, all my threads will be gone. This has happened to me twice now within a week.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy gmail was coming in pretty fast, now today it isn't. I have to manually refresh it now. Maybe I changed something, if so can you direct me where I need to check please? They are not showing up in my notification nar at this time (after refresh) either. I really like that bar too! Also, the data sycnronizing or connected HTC Sync icon (right by the gps and 3g icons) keeps coming on and off every few seconds. Is this normal? While I'm at it, the 3g icon's arrows (up and down) do the same thing all the time.I'm a yahoo guy and setup my gmail to import my yahoo, now all day it hasn't been when refreshing, etc. Gmail issues today perhaps? I think from all of my reading on here and messing with the phone I did something perhaps?
