Android :: Samsung Galaxy S Meets Froyo By Month's End For T-Mobile
Sep 22, 2010
Per engadget, Android phones and their eternal struggle to get the latest version update, it's a book that needs to be written. It was only last night that we were hearing that the Froyo upgrade for Spanish Galaxy S users would be pushed back till late October, yet today our emotions are swung back the other way by news of T-Mobile promising the exact same update by the end of this month. If our solar calendars are accurate, that means there'll be no more than a 10-day wait left for T-Mo customers using this 4-incher. We'll bug the other networks as well to see whether their 2.2 updates are in the mail or still lost somewhere in the frozen isle.

I am from Italy and own a samsung i9000 s.bought from a wind shop ( but unlocked to all networks ). When I enter Kies and try to do an update it says that I already have the latest version. I checked and mine is Eclair 2.1 . was wondering if anybody know if WIND have the release of froyo 2.2 available on their network. I am moving my number to TIM mobile operator tomorrow anyway. Maybe some ideeas on that? I would really really like to upgrade as I have heard that Froyo really works alot better on sgs . Really now but for a phone that I have paied 550 euros I expect no lag and better start time of apps...and well alot of stuff. If that doesn't happent I'll just ask for my money back and go for the Iphone 4. not really what I want but my Iphone 3gs was performing better than this newer faster ( 1ghz..and 512 ram ) Samsung Galaxy S. SO PLEASE do cooment and let me know about what you think.

I've been after getting a Desire on T-Mobile's 10/month contract (24 month contract, cost of phone 164), but I've just looked at the website now and the option for the 10/month contract has disappeared... Next cheapest option appears to be 15/month with the phone at 157, but the total cost over the course of the contract is 517, which is 113 more than the total cost with the 10/month contract Does anyone know if this represents an actual change in T-Mobile's pricing, or could it just be a temporary error with the website?

My unbranded SGS is currently running 2.2 (I9000XXJPM, FROYO.XWJP6) which I updated via the registery hack last month. It's running smooth and I've not had any problems My question is, what is the difference between my existing version and the 'offical' Froyo 2.2 that will be released soon? Would I be able to update my firmware to the newer version since I'm already on 2.2 (I9000XXJPM, FROYO.XWJP6)?

I know its only a test build but from what you have so far what is your judgment?? On a side note, I like that they added color to the settings similar to HTC sense. Its it as fast and as smooth as in this video?

There have been some silly announcements of 2.2 Froyo being 450% faster than 2.1 Eclair.
It's not important how much faster it will be... the important thing is they've seemingly worked on improving speed, which in turn probably means resource usage is lower, which could also mean hardware requirements are lower and perhaps it will run fine on older phones.
Anyway, I doubt Samsung will be giving us 2.2 instead of 2.1, so I'm curious whether there is any chance of us getting it some other way? Are there any reasons why 2.2 would not be able to run on the Galaxy?

And everything works perfectly! Ok i had to do a factory reset after the update (after backing up my contacts), but now it works faster, is more beautiful and of course Flash player is installed. A lot of little neat things were added as well. So i am happy and you should be too! Go update through KIES! Froyo should be there!

I quickly glanced at those forums, but didn't spend a whole lot of time reading. It seems some people had issues with defective phones that needed replacing, sometimes multiple times. I don't see that as ultimately a problem with the phone though, such as a design flaw that can't be fixed without more R&D.From time to time I see people posting something along the lines of "I'll never buy another Samsung product again" due to lack of support issues, or whatever, on some of the newer phone models. Personally, I had an i730 and it was the best phone you could get during its time.Has anyone closely followed what the AT&T and T Mobile Galaxy S owners are saying? The main gripe I've heard is that there's a GPS software issue for some users, but there's supposed to be a workaround, and supposedly a fix in an update.

I am a little more than one year into my two year contract on T-Mobile with my aging G1. T-Mobile says I can get the Vibrant (Galaxy S) ("plus upgrade fee").I desperately want a faster CPU and a true Android 2.x phone, but I don't know. I almost feel like paying the early termination fee and going for an EVO with Sprint.Seems every option has downsides...
* I've heard Samsung build quality is not the best, and the Galaxy S looks a bit too much like an old iPhone
* The EVO is supposed to not have great battery life
* AT&T cripples their Android devices
* Verizon has the highest monthly fees

At a press conference in New Delhi, the VP of marketing made a comment that galaxy s won't be updated to Android 2.2
Comments made were as followed:-
UPDATE: The Galaxy S wont be able to update to Android 2.2 and above. It will remain on Android 2.1.
UPDATE 2: Samsung will update the Galaxy S to 2.2 from their manufacturing facility. No word on the timing but those new devices will run on Android 2.2. They are still working on how to upgrade current units that are running on Android 2.1.
Have a read here from Cellpasion and also here on Twitter.

]I got a samsung galaxy s on contract with t mobile in the uk. When I go on kies I see that there is a firmware update available but it says that its not available for my handset.
Now my baseband number is I9000boJF1 and my firmware version is 2.r update. I heard some post say recently that 2.2 update is only available for payg handsets and not contract handsets is that true? If the froyo update is still out there for t mobile then i will wait but if it is not coming at all then can someone post me how i can use the odin method to upgrade. Note my baseband version, last time I used odin with wrong files and it messed my galaxy s.
By typing *#1234# I get
PDA: I9000BOJG3
Phone: I9000BOJF1
CSC: I9000GTMUJG1

Got my new Samsung Galaxy S today and have been trying to get all the contacts from my T-mobile G2 Touch onto it. I have previously used VcardIo to do this with no problems. However when I take the file into the Galaxy S it shows as being 0 k. Though it is on on the G2. I have tried various programs on Market but the all seem to do the same.

I'm probably in the same situation as many SGS owners, i.e. installed the one click LAG fix to overcome the issues with 2.1. As 2.2 is due out (in the UK) probably sometime in the next few weeks, can someone more technical advise if the LAG fix should be removed and the phone unrooted before the official upgrade. Additionally, is there any benefit moving up to 2.2 other than Flash? I haven't had any real issues with the phone other than the initial LAG. I'm on Orange UK, but I don't suppose that really matters?
