Seeing how this keyboard works on 2.1, I'd definitely love to get this working on 2.2 somehow. I want to try to experiment with this apk and see what I can possibly change in order to get it to work on 2.2. Does anyone know what files that may need to be edited within the apk? I just need a direction to start going in. Also I've downloaded "APK Manager" can I maybe do something there?

Is this even possible on non rooted phones? i know on rooted phones you can go in and edit the png files in the .apk meaning you can change the icons for the apps and widgets etc. this caught my interest, being something that i could do as possibly an introduction into the developer side of the eris. just wanted to see if it would be possible to reinstall an edited apk file onto a non rooted phone

Im asking b/c I have a few game apps that have some of the files (i assume, they are jpg, or png files) dont fit my screen right, they are too big & are partly cut off, so i want to resize them & put them back on my phone.
how to extract an .obb file so that one can edit the contents. In my other thread [URL] where I was trying to figure out a way to activate the Japanese vocal track in Final Fantasy IV with the game's locale in the US/English. I've hit an impasse as I've been able to deduce that the Google play version of the game (which seems to have a 15mb .apk, and a 400+mb .obb ) retains the Japanese audio track but only plays it in conjunction with JP text if the Android locale/language is Japanese. Thus, I figure that somewhere in that .obb there will be the JP audio track file which I can copy over the English audio track file and thereby access Japanese audio w/ English text since SquareEnix didn't give us the option for some god-awful reason.
However, the only way this can work is if I can get into that .obb file! I saw links elsewhere on the forum suggesting that all I had to do was rename the .obb to a .zip or .rar, and then use 7zip or WinRAR to open it, but attempts with both programs and numerous file types (.zip, .rar , .tar etc..) all report that the file is not an archive and thus cannot be opened. This is different from the .apk file, which easily seems to (upon rename to zip) unveil its secrets with 7zip extraction. So, does an program or method necessary to unpack/extract/read/edit an .obb file besides the simple archive rename? Is there some Android development program or function?
I have tried using gedit, geany, eclips, and some other programs and all of them give me errors and won't open a single xml file!Is there certain plug-ins I have to download?
View 8 Replies View RelatedFor a while now since i got the vibrant, i've been using swype.IMHO This is one of the best keyboards out there. but there's a flaw in the keyboard,it's annoying because i always do it! And what i was wondering, is if we can disable it, or delete it all together. In swype keyboard, on the bottom right hand corner, theres a button for the Smiley face. Which is also under the most used backspace key. So you know, whenever i'm trying to delete some text, instead of deleting text, i get a bunch of ":-)" it is extremely annoying. I never used this key on purpose, and what i was wondering is that if we could some how delete that smiley button .

Well when i try to copy the files into the folder it says i have insufficient permission so i was wondering if anyone knew of a way around that without rooting or something like that!

Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'

- Added option to disable notification icon

Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.
I tried editing the media_profiles.xml to get better camcorder fps. Whenever I look at the details of the videos I record from my phone on my computer it shows that the video recorded at 15 fps.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 9 GB of music, most ripped from full abums I own. But the rest is in downloaded or copied songs. The problem is that these downloaded songs are sometimes misspelled, mislabled, the genre & other info isn't filled in at all, and or the album info is missing or incorrect.The result with a great audio player app like "3" (my favorite so far) is that I might have 35 Tom Petty songs, but because album info is missing on so many of them, the app has them dispersed among 22 different albums! Very annoying. (This happened after telling "3" to search for album art.) Then there's the "Unknown Atrist" catagory where I'll no doubt find another stray TP song, etc.What I'm looking for is another app that gives me a GUI that allows me to edit all of the tag data for music files in my library. Both say they're on my gmail account, but editing the second doesn't reflect on the contact list if I change the name, does anyone else have this?
I would like to change the colors of the Wif bars on the status bar at top of screen I extracted the .png files (blue bars), opened them in Paint, and manually changed the color to yellow. Zipped them back up in Metamorph format and pushed them to my Metamorph format and pushed them to my sdcard Applied theme using Metamorph, and it worked, except that the background is now white. I created a theme using the original 5 files. I created a theme using the original 5 png's with blue bars, applied the theme, and it worked and it doesn't have the white background. I think I understand what's happening, but not sure how to format the pictures correctly so just the bars show without the background. Any help appreciated, thanks

I edited .png files in framework-res.apk; the sdcard preparing icon and also the usb connected icon.
I used this method:
Use terminal, since ADB doesn't work.
su
cp system/framework/framework-res.apk /sdcard
(edit files on your computer opening the framework as an archive using 7zip. put the file on the sd card)
assuming that you aren't in SU anymore..
su
cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk system/framework
chmod 644 system/framework/framework-res.apk
sync
reboot

They are not the .9 png files, and the icons changed without problem, but immediately after a reboot almost every program on my phone is force closing.
This is probably a moronic question, but within the Gmail app on the Droid, how do you reply to an email and then edit the text in line with the quoted message? It seems that the section marked "quoted message" cannot be edited. Surely this is possible?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a user that syncs her corporate email and calendar to her Motorola Droid Razr, Android 4.0.X. The initial entry of an event in her calendar is set for the correct time and time zone. When she edits her event the time zone changes which causes the event to be displayed at a different time.
Another user also has the issue on a Droid Incredible, but is not as concerned about it. I have the HTC EVO LTE and have not been able to replicate the issue.
I read this site and thought it could work. We have reset her account, changed her time zone, resynced.
Dont get me wrong, the QWERTY keyboard is sick, and I love it. But after typing on the keyboard for while, I wanted to switch it up, so I tried the on screen key pad. And to my surprise, the on screen keyboard appears to be much quicker than using the QWERTY!
View 15 Replies View RelatedI uploaded about 50 pictures from iPhoto (using a Mac) just to see what they looked like and then later formatted the Droid's SD card, so the pictures were no longer there.
Now, if I mount the Droid via USB and view the file structure there is a folder named /albumthumbs which contains 50 files, presumably for the 50 pictures a had on the SD card.
To me, these file, unless linking to actual photos stored on the SD card, take up extra space in the phone's memory (not worried about the SD card). I wonder if I can safely delete them (just the files...not the folder)?
Just uninstalled better keyboard. Went back to reinstate android keyboard now I can't get the onscreen keyboard up at all. Don't the batt pull. Settings are all set properly and saved. I am going nuts here without it.

There are a lot of apps, like motocast, which enable me to access all my files on my Mac remotely via my Razr. But I don't know of a way of editing this document and then saving it back to the mac.
At one time I thought I could edit (aka change) a previous event by:
1) Selecting the date on the calendar view
2) Selecting the event
3) This brings me to the "Event details". When the the screen opens I see the whole edit menu for a moment. Then I only see the event with date and time and a line that says "my calendar" with an icon. The menu's only choices are "add reminder", "delete" and "share vCalendar".
At one time I had an way of editing the event. I just cannot figure out how to do it now.
We all know that we cannot delete individual words in the dictionary ... however I found in thread in Android Applications that may be somewhat useful. I would like to copy my contacts (and some vids/pics) to my computer for editing purposes, reset the phone, and load the contacts back on.
The right alt key on my keyboard has come off, It was very fragile and seems that the keys are put on with a very weak glue, but nothing much else to hold it in place. Anyone else have loose or missing keyboard keys?
