Media :: Can't Play Mp4 Videos
May 19, 2010
I've had my HTC Desire for a couple of months now and it's truly a great phone! Today my 32Gb micro SD card arrived for it and I set about moving my media onto it. I wanted to see if I could watch movies on my phone so I set about converting one from a full HD .mkv file to an .mp4 using handbrake. I read up on what the best parameters are and stuck to them religiously.I can play other videos on it no problem but when it comes to my own it just says that it can't play them, I've tried Meridian (which seems unstable as hell btw) but that doesn't help. My file is a couple of gigs in size when the encoding is done but I'm not short on space so that's not such an issue. I don't know why the phone is being so picky, can anyone please suggest what I might be doing wrong?

Can't seem to play videos that are in Facebook posts. I've tried all the free video players and the trials of the pay versions, but none will work. Is there an app that will play these?

I assume that the EVO 4G can play full length videos (via microSD?). How do you put the video onto the device and play it. Is there a designated application & software client, or is it just drag and drop (onto the microSD) and watch the video through the HTC Player? The reason I'm asking is because I do not have an EVO, but i do have a HTC Sense enabled phone. So by theory, since the phones are both running the same OS/UI, couldnt i watch movies on my HTC Eris?

We are developing apps for android. One recent app has links that play videos hosted on amamazon servers. We have fromated for 3gp and or mp4.
When we run app, we get error,
Video file cannot be played
This happens on wifi, 3g, and 4g connections
Samsung epic, (galaxy s)
Do we have to intall some media server on the server perhaps? The iphone version of the app works fine.

I want to be able to use/view the video's I record with my phone on my computer. (open from an email or use in window's movie maker)I have a new computer with Windows seven at work and a Vista laptop at home. I can send the video to myself and try to open in from my email or tether to the computer and transfer the file manually. Either way I can't open with windows media player. Video's taken with default "Camcorder" app on a myTough 3G running Android 1.6.I know it has something to do with the codec's the phone uses but wonder why they wouldn't use codec's that are compatible with the most commonly used pc's?Is there any way around this? Some kind of converter for the computer or for the phone? Is there another camcorder app that can record video with a different codec or is it phone hardware specific? So far have been able to use these forum's to sort out most of my Android problems but I'm stumped on this one. It doesn't seem like it should be this hard to do. Should be more user friendly.

I guess no one cares to listen to their favorite music in the order the artist intended? we now listen to timeless classic Opera in whatever order? makes no difference? Classic Rock albums out of order? Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon"?

My Evo wont play any videos, i've tried through crackle, tru tv app, sprint tv, you tube, on and on and on. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the apps, and updating profiles and software. I am real close to throwing a $200 phone against the wall! (breathe) Has anyone else had this problem? And do you know of any fixes for it? On Sprint TV, i get an error message saying This channell is not currently available. On other sites/apps, I get an error saying only that this video can not be played.

I am a CrossFitter and like to download and view videos from the site, but none of them will work. I tried to figure out why through hours of researching and different video players, but I got nothing. The site is Welcome to CrossFit: Forging Elite Fitness and I can't seem to get 90% of the .wmv videos working at all. Sometimes some of them work and I can't figure out why. I thought it was the frame rate because the occasional lower quality one (non-widescreen) work fine. Most are high quality and these are the ones I want to play. Can anyone get this one to work as an example: http://media.crossfit.com/cf-video/Games2010_ Oconnor Speal _Tapering.wmv? I can successfully convert them, but I want to view them right from the web with no adjusting.

trying to play videos on my DI. I didn't spend a lot of time looking into what it takes to play videos but I assumed it would be pretty straight forward and "drag 'n' drop." I've loaded a .mp4, .avi, and a .mkv. So far, none of them work. I didn't try them all at the same time (mostly because each time I just threw the video on there, assumed it would work, then found out later it didn't) so they have all been different videos, thus shouldn't be corrupted files. What do I need to do to get them to play?

I'm having great difficulty getting my Android application to play videos from the SD card. It doesn't matter what size, bitrate, video format, or any other setting I can think of, neither the emulator nor my G1 will play anything I try to encode. I've also tried a number of videos from the web (various video formats, bitrates, with and without audio tracks, etc.), and none of those work either.

had my g1 since it came out.Im trying to convert video files for it but everytime I do, the video player says it cannot play format it plays perfectly except it has no 'RW, PAUSE/PLAY, FF' options when I touch the screen. It keeps saying 'CANNOT PLAY VIDEO: Sorry, this video cannot be played. But it is playing the video just no options.I used SUPER C and followed all the instructions, converted like 7 different avi movies all the same.I used "MediaCoder' because you get to tweak the contrast, brightness and etc making video's picture perfect same thing though.I want to be able to watch videos on the G1.The YouTUBE apps is horendous and a joke compared to the iphone youtube app.

I have a couple of MP4 videos that used to play on my HTC Desire before it got its Froyo uodate, that dont appear to be now. When I click on it to play, it comes up Cannot Play Video - Sorry, this video cannot be played. When I look at the details it has Type : Video/mp4 Am I doing something stupidly wrong? Also is there an easy piece of software that can copy DVDs into a format my Desire will understand. I'm after an ease of use rather than cheap bit of software.

I got the gist of how to add music, pictures to Mytouch but video's seem to be a little trickier. I know you hook up the mini usb cable to the Mytouch and then you can unmount the SD card so that you can view it on your computer but when I would put a video file, lets say .avi file. The video wouldn't play right, are we required to convert the video files to another format?

I've used Handbrake as recommended in this helpful thread (Put Videos on Droid) to convert .avi files to .mp4. I got a "Sorry, this video cannot be played" when I try to play it on my Droid.I also tried downloading an .mp4 file from a YouTube video (as converted by file2hd.com). But I still get that error message.I know this topic has come up before and it usually seems to be the way that the file was converted rather than some kind of setting on the Droid. What else should I try?

I just came across the limitation of VideoView of not being able to play mp4 video files that are wider than 320 pixels. I was wondering how can we overcome these limitations. I am trying to make my app as forgiving as possible, so other than using VideoViews is there another way to play these mp4 videos?

I'm trying to create .mp4 video clips that when you click on the link in a browser (I have an Evo 4G) the clip will buffer and stream in the HTC Streaming Media Player. So far I only get this error message when the streaming media player launches: "Warning - Video is not for streaming play. Would you like to download the file." All my clips play great when downloaded to the SD card and they all stream flawlessly on the iPhone. Not sure if this problem is HTC specific or all Android phones. Has anyone created .mp4 clips that can be streamed from a website? What software and settings are you using? I'm using Handbrake which obviously isn't working.
