Making Simple Bluetooth Transfer App
Aug 21, 2012
I'm currently developing a simple app with the following functions:
So far I've managed to make the View Files work by viewing files and folders in the memory card, but I haven't added any function other than being able to view them.
Here is the code for the FileManager.java class, I just copied it from a site because I just wanted to test out if the code could really view files. I have yet to be able to make my own file manager code:
Code:
package com.android.bluetoothfiletransfer;
import java.io.File;
import java.io.FilenameFilter;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import android.app.Activity;
[Code] ......
All other buttons are nonfunctional. Can I ask for preferably codes for the functions I'm looking for? I'm just planning to use this as a stepping stone for future apps.

I would like to make a very simple Android app, with no UI. Kind of a shortcut. I tried searching the web, and I didn't find what I was looking for.
The question is: Can I make a simple app, that only launches an activity?
I want to make an app to launch the following activity : "com.cyanogenmod.trebuchet.preference.Preferences" . Kind of how the app "QuickShortcutMaker" works.

I'm making a simple 2d game for the android platform, which works perfectly from version 2.0 and above, but when testing it on a 1.6 device, it crashes immediately. On running the debugger, it seems that I'm getting a null pointer exception in the thread class. I was just wondering if anybody has any ideas as to where the problem might be.
Maybe there's some compatibility issues with this code that I'm not aware of--I'm very much a beginner when it comes to using threads.

Really general, very new to bluetooth. Can we have one android device broadcasting a simple 'hello' bluetooth network (maybe a radius of just a few feet) - then when other android devices come into that area, reply with a 'hello' back? The client devices moving through the 'hello' radius wouldn't need to be always be checking for presence. I'd let the user open an app and check for bluetooth networks nearby. If they find one of these hubs, they can then choose to broadcast back a hello.Is that at all possible? Any general info would be great.

Anyways quick question, I was trying to bluetooth over my ringtones and videos from my old phone to this one but my old phone was not finding the HTC when it came to sending files.
Now, I know the HTC doesn't support Bluetooth file sharing (or so I have read elsewhere on this forum). I have downloaded the Bluetooth Transfer by Medieval Software which looks a decent programme but it will only work if both phones have the software installed (and as my other phone is a fairly old Sony Ericcson W880i that's not an option).
So, does anyone know of a bluetooth app that will allow me to transfer my files??
or, failing that, can anyone think of a different work around to get files off? Memory cards are not compatible and I have lost the Sony PC wire...

I don't even own a bluetooth headset, but I feel that every time (not sure it is every time) I make a call, I hear a little message indicator while the call is ringing. I look at my phone, and it says "Would you like to enable bluetooth" or something like that. NO I wouldn't, I don't use bluetooth. Anyway to turn this option off?

I've checked the option on the phone for the FTP folder. I have made the phone discoverable, and then been able to see it on the Mac. I go through the whole thing on the Mac, enter the codes on the screen, etc. but it then gives me a warning on the Mac that my phone doesn't have any bluetooth profiles, and then simply says that the devices are paired, but not connected.I heard the Hero had all sorts of problems connecting with a Mac to transfer files, but one would think this new Evo would work, given the FTP folder option. Anybody have any ideas? Have you tried it on a Mac, and been able to get it to work?

I wanted to transfer files back and forth between my android pone and a laptop. Quite honestly I had never used bluetooth before, but since this phone has it I am playing around with it.I tried Astro and ES File explorer, but those work only if I need to transfer files between phones.I then found out Bluetooth File Transfer which lets me share files between my phone and my laptop. That app is very nice, and also by the same developer Dual File Manager.both free from the market.But I supposed file transfer via bluetooth between a laptop or other devices and the phone was a given.Is an extra app absolutely necessary or did I miss something? What other File Managers with bluetooth support do you know of?

I was playing around with my old LG Versa today. My son is using it for a camera. He's 7. I went to the bluetooth menu on the phone, put the device in discovery mode, and transferred a picture to the Versa from my Incredible. I thought shit, I wonder if I can transfer music this way. When I open up ES File Explorer, it has the option for bluetooth, but I cannot access the Versa from there. Does the Versa need a memory card to access from file explorer. It tells me invalid path or something.
Just found share option in stock music player. I use "3" instead for the album art, but the stock has bluetooth share. Now I gotta see if it works.

I am trying to tidy up contacts and want to transfer all the contacts on my Desire to my PC, tidy them and send them back. I had a look at the other thread s on this but they don't seem to cover Desire.
It seems I can only transfer contacts as VCards, one at a time, via bluetooth, is this the case? That would be a pain.
So, what are the alternatives? I think I can use sync but I'm not sure how. Any other options? Using the built in mailer in Desire, I assume, since I didn't load another one, and using Thunderbird on PC, if that info is pertinent.

I have been using astro to send files via bluetooth. I noticed however, that the type of files you can send is limited. It seems I can send pics & MP3s, but not PDFs or APKs for example. If i try to 'send' them in astro, I only get the mail or gmail options. Is this normal, or can't I drive the phone properly again?

I'm new to this forum and have just purchased a BNIB Hero locked to Orange,Rom Ver: 2.73.61.66.I am not much phone or PC savy but am learning.This is my first Android Phone.I discovered this site last night and spent a few hours reading, what a great site.Managed to set up a Google link, up loaded a bar scanner and scanned a couple of apps off this site, excellent.Unfortunately also spent a few hours trying to transfer a blue-tooth file from my existing phone to the Hero, to eventually find out the Orange Hero is not set up for this, I was truly amazed at this news.I am able to pair both devises, just the transfer won't take place.I searched this site and the web for an application that will allow me to do this, can anyone suggest one.

When my car bluetooth downloads the phonebook from my captivate, it downloads some contacts, but doesn't download the ones from my exchange server. They show up fine in the contacts app, but the car doesn't receive them. I thought it might be an issue with the way they were put into the contacts, so I undid the built in android exchange account, deleted the contacts, then installed touchdown and populated it that way. Still no joy. I thought that originally it was downloading them correctly (using the built in exchange sync) but either stopped working correctly, or never was and I just now noticed it.
