LG Ally :: How To Root In Order To Delete Unused Programs?
Oct 18, 2010
I need to download a root in order to Delete programs I don't use? (such as "City ID" and "Skype" and all the others on my Apps panel I don't use, ever.) Am I correct? Also read on the "Sticky" that task killers actually slow my phone down? I use advanced task killer free and it makes my battery life way longer and gives me the ability to kill stuff I ain't using.
I really like the phone a lot! I use the barcode scanner and the google goggles (which I think needs some more work IMO) and constantly google stupid stuff at work that me and the guys come up with. I really like the phone, but wouldn't mind getting rid of some useless programs I have. (Like on my home PC). Not to forget the Full version of Angry Birds. I'm addicted to that game! Its awesome! (reminds me of the game "Gorilla" that windows NT used to have).

I have a ton of folders on SD card and some places on my phone's internal storage that I want to know how to delete, bottom line is some of them are important folders that may be required by the system - some contain downloaded data from games and what not - such as The Sims Freeplay - that range in sizes from 400MB to 900MB.
I'm running on a stock phone, HAS NEVER BEEN ROOTED,

After the update, when I open uninstaller I can see these two programs relating to the 2.1 update.
com.htc2.1-update1
and
android system 2.1-update
I am wondering If I can delete the "com.htc2.1-update 1" as both are pretty large files. Will this effect the android system 2.1 update? or is this the "set up" that can be deleted once installed.

I installed a couple of programs not from the market (tweetdeck for example) how do I go about removing them? I know if I had downloaded it from the market I could just go there to uninstall it, but what if the APK was installed from a link? I am rooted btw. Can I just use the folder program to go in and delete the APK?

i am seriously considering joining the root party, but the number of 3rd party programs needed seems daunting. can anyone compile a list of all the software/download links you need to do it correctly? i have already read the following threads and am pretty set on using BuglessBeast 0.5 as my new ROM.The Official One-Click Rooting Solution for Droid Thread LATEST: V2.0.4.Painless and Thorough ROM Switching in Under an Hour.i know those threads mention Motorola Drivers, Soup or Root, ROM Manager, Nandroid, CW Recovery, and a few other programs. which ones do i absolutely need, and is there possibly an easier way than the one posted above to load BuglessBeast after i am done with the root? when i first started looking up info, i figured rooting would be the hard part; now it appears that loading the new ROM is much more complicated. i know there is alot of info already posted here, but sifting through it all for the useful bits is an arduous task. please be nice to the newb!

I just got a dopo 7" tablet from a relative and for the life of me cannot get it to root. I have been at it since 3-4pm (its 11:10 now) and no matter what apk or .bat rootkit, or windows root exe i have tried from old guides and some new ("can root ANY android device 2014!!!") to YouTube videos.
i have unknown sources checked debugging checked tablet never sleeps/screen never shuts off have it plugged into laptop via the cable the tablet came with usb to micro root master apk failed suggested root-rk29 tab rootkit each step it tried it could not find any of the necessary files needed on my tablet (even after 3 restarts and 3 different methods) root will try to restore data like the programs steps shows but as soon as it says restore started it immediately says restore ended and it gives an X in the circle and wants me to retry (tried 4 times)
tried doomlordz v4 rootkit and same as other rootkit it says the files arnt found and does the alternative methods and SAYS its completed but root checker still says its not
tried key root master mentions something about a cloud program but never roots superoneclick becomes unresponsive for 20mins and does nothing so i have to end task (some says it freezes their phone/tablet) but my tablet acts like nothing is happening.I have tried Googling multiple times only to find results related to 9" version.
I have about reached my limit of patience on this thing..I have 0 knowledge on rooting other than reading up why I would want it or the common steps which did not work obviously...

I'm helping a friend, so please bear with me!
She's annoyed that she cannot delete her Verizon e-mails from the server.. She still needs to actually log onto her account at home and delete the e-mails a second time. I've checked her settings, though was unable to locate a "delete from server".

I have kind of started figuring this stuff out. I've successfully flashed to sbf a few times after screwing up. . So I was wondering about the proper order of installing zips.. For right now I have . . SBF, One click root, Blackglassdeodexer, Blackglassback to stock, Rubix1.86 i think. .. . I was wondering if the order changed anything... Or what all I can now do from here. I'm also having a few random reboots a day where it'll just stop and reboot..

I need someone with an unrooted LG Ally to test my 2 Click Root scripts. This is for Mac users only. Please Direct Message me or message me on twitter @northmendo if you are interested in testing. If all goes well I will release to the public asap. Also it helps if you already have adb configured but I can help with that if you don't.

This a thread for posting screenshots of how you've customized your phone. How to:
1. You must have root to take a screenshot.
2. Download a screenshot app, I chose screenshot in the market.
3. Upload your screenshot, I chose the imgur uploader from the market.
4. Post your screen with details about what you've done so people don't have to ask.
To upload an image to imgur you must view the screenshot in gallery then share to imgur. Then copy the url. Velocity 0.1.1 928droid theme LauncherPro BattStatt & Retro Clock widgets.

Decided to get brave and try the whole Root thing to get rid of some of the bloatware on my Ally. I used Universal Androot to root my phone, Titanium Backup with the Batch "Backup all user apps + System data", ROM Manager to back up the ROM, and Root Explorer to change permissions so I could delete the bloatware apps. (Well, the ones I could figure out - still have a shortcut for Corporate Calendarand Socialite.)
OK - fine so far. However, when I tried to restore, the apps I deleted are still gone. I tried using the Factory Reset option in Settings - nice and clean but the same apps are missing. By this time, I've figured out I misunderstood something somewhere. The question is - can it be fixed?

So trying to use a Bluetooth headset or hands-free speaker doesn't work on the Ally with v2.1 and the update. Does rooting and installing another ROM fix this? Allegedly this is fixed in Froyo, but who knows when (if?) the Ally will get it.

Is there any way to remove pre-installed programs?
For example, the following programs were pre-installed:
Amazon MP3
Footprints
Teeter
And maybe some others.
I've just tried:
Settings | Applications | Manage Apps
And noticed there's not always an option to Uninstall on these and some others.
Is it possible to remove, delete, uninstall, or get them off the device?
Is there any way to remove the pre-installed Sprint programs?
Sprint TV
Sprint-Nextel
NFL
Nascar
Are there some "core apps" or "core programs" that can't be removed?
A brief search on this matter on related threads seems to indicate only on "rooted" phones.

I did was use the search function and after 10 pages I could not see what I was looking for. In java, we use method parameters for a number of reasons but I've never used parameters in my methods unless I needed them..When defining a method in android for a button that I want to click, I had my method defined in XML under the Button element
[HIGH]androidnClick="showText"[/HIGH]
then, in my ProjectName.java file I defined the method
[HIGH]public void showText(View view){
}[/HIGH]
I was told that the View in the parameter is the view that was clicked.Button is a subclass of View as is TextView and since that is the case,is this the rule for just the onClick method? Also, why can I not pass the Button as a parameter? Button is the actual "View" being clicked, so why not Button?
Furthermore, are there other methods similar to this and if so, do they all follow the rule just like the View parameter, where let's say if I had a class called "A" and it had a subclass "B" and that class had a subclass "C", and if I wanted to use the onClick method, I can only pass the Highest Class as the parameter?
To simplify that, are there ever cases where I would pass anything else OTHER THAN "View" as the parameter to these methods?
