I have a Moto X on 4.4.2 that I want to downgrade back to 4.2.2. I want to do this because it was faster on my phone and I liked the blue status bar better. It is stock and on Verizon.

View 23 Replies View RelatedI tried switching to ART and, after rebooting, I started testing all my apps to see how well they run. When I got to Whatsapp, I was getting repeated crashes. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but I couldn't reinstall. When I looked it up on the internet, I found that the problem was not with the app itself, but with ART in 4.4 and that the issue had been addressed in the 4.4.1 update, which isn't available for the Moto X yet. So, I tried switching back to Dalvik, but now I still can't reinstall Whatsapp even in Dalvik runtime.
I get an error box when I try to install from the Play Store. "Unknown error code during application install: -24". I tried downloading the apk from the Whatsapp website and sideloading it, but my phone won't install that either.
I own Moto G and i use Google Experience Launcher, and i noticed that the full white icons on statusbar became not 100% white when you open an app.

very annoyed the sounds are wierdly muffled and not working right after the update, particularly the typing click sound i like.

But now the phone dialpad does not load at all the first time I touch the dialpad icon (it brings up a small white panel layout). Pressing the dialpad again second time loads up the new cool dialpad introduced in 4.4.2 kitkat update.

and on another android forum. every thread is huge with a TON of people having problems and answers scattered everywhere. Is there one place with an updated guide for windows and mac or just mac that officially roots so I can install custom ROMs? What about downgrading? I've been bouncing all around to different forums and guides and none are clear. The XDA thead by toast also says his root doesn't allow custom ROMs but I've seen custom ROMs mentioning toast?

Is doing the factory reset the same as downgrading to 2.1? OR is there some other way to downgrade? If so, could somebody provide step by step instructions?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Motorola Droid 2 on Verizon. It is not rooted, just a basic phone with a few apps. I'm currently running Froyo 2.2 and I would like to get back to 2.1.1, or frankly any version other than 2.2. I got my phone last year in November and it was running version 2.0. Since then I have upgraded to 2.1 and 2.1.1. Around a month ago, the 2.2 update was pushed to my phone, and after reading great reviews about it, I was excited to upgrade. I allowed the update to my phone and since then I have experienced constant problems with it. Another "update" was pushed to my phone a week or so ago, but I checked the version after the update and it was still 2.2, so I'm not sure if it actually did anything, and I still have the same problems.
Since updating, my web browser freezes up regularly making it unable to use. Some of the applications I use frequently crash or freeze up (such as Pandora). The phone is much less responsive; I sometimes have to just put it down and wait for it to start responding to input again. When I try to select a text message to read, most of the time it enters a different thread than the one I selected. I'll then have to back out and try to select the text message I want to read again, and it always works the second time. The phone often misses calls; it doesn't ring or anything. I'll just get a voicemail, which is the only way I know I missed the call; no other notification or anything. It no longer plays WAV files. About half the time I try to load a YouTube video, or even launch the YouTube application, I receive a message that there is no internet connection, even though I'm using the web browser and I know I have an internet connection. Before upgrading, I almost never rebooted my phone, but now I have to rebooted multiple times a week because of the freezing and crashing of apps. Basically it has went from a smartphone, to just a phone. I am so frustrated. If I can't downgrade, I think I'm just going to have to get a different phone. I have found posts on how to downgrade other phones from 2.2 to 2.1, but I'm not sure if they work on the Motorola Droid 2, and I don't want to risk being completely without a phone, since I use it for work and personal use. The other guides I have found for the downgrade seem to specify they are for phones other than the Motorola Droid 2.
I want to root my phone, stupid update. Any possible way I can downgrade to the previous update?

I was wondering if there was a way to downgrade from the manual update 2.2 back to the 2.1. I have been having such a hard time with my Wifi since I upgraded I just would like to be able to go back to a better working version. I tried putting the manual 2.1 update.zip in and doing that, but it just says "error in sdcard update.zip status 2" I couldn't find what status 2 means, but I imagine in layman's terms it means something like "You can't downgrade like that dummy!" So, I fear that I am just stuck until our update gets updated.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI followed all of these instructions to downgrade my wife's rooted 2.1 and it seems to have worked fine. I've got it back to 1.5. She wanted the OTA upgrade because the 2.1 rooted version was giving her the silent call issue. Again, I went back to 1.5 because I wanted the OTA update. After doing this, she got the OTA update notification, it downloaded, processed and then failed. I've also tried to install the OTA manually and it won't work. The hboot is version 1.47. Has anybody had success downgrading their 2.1 rooted install to 1.5 and then getting the OTA update to work? I'm back at 1.5. What should I do next to get the OTA update working?

View 5 Replies View RelatedThere have already been several requests for information on how to downgrade back to the official 2.2. The following process will remove root. Whether you need to return a phone or you just want to clean the slate and go back to stock, here is how to get there:
Note: Your SD card MUST be formatted to FAT32 before proceeding. The file will not be recognized otherwise. If you have yet to format, remember that formatting wipes the card. Be sure to copy/move your SD contents to a safe place (PC desktop) and replace after the formatting process. I will not go into the procedure in this thread as it is easily found with a Google search.
1.) Need to return a phone and currently have S-Off? (aka Unrevoked Forever) If so, please visit public:forever [RootWiki] where you can download the latest S-On tool and the process to load to your phone. If you want to keep S-Off and just return to the official 2.2, skip to step 2.
2.) Download the 2.2 PB31IMG.zip (extracted from the official 2.2 RUU)

Note the file size (172 MB) and the MD5 (31BB1611A0FA8197D447C0438426717E) to ensure a successful download and file integrity. If you have questions about how to verify MD5, please see post #2 of this thread.
3.) Attach phone to PC with USB debugging on and in disk drive mode.
4.) Access the SD storage and drag the PB31IMG.zip from the desktop onto the root of the SD card (any open area, do not place into a folder).
5.) Swipe down notification bar on phone and change to charge only.
6.) Unplug phone from PC and turn off phone.
7.) Hold volume down while pressing power button to enter hboot.
8.) PB31IMG.zip should be automatically recognized in hboot. Press volume up to continue with update. Do NOT interrupt.
9.) When finished, reboot to stock 2.2 and verify the following information at Menu > Settings > About Phone:
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: 2.15.00.07.28
Software Number: 3.26.605.1
10.) Remove the PB31IMG.zip from the SD card to avoid an inadvertant reload in the future. You are now unrooted and on stock 2.2

Given the number of little bugs and issues being reported with 2.2, I'm actually a bit wary of installing it on my phone.
I have an Orange phone which I debraded by flashing the generic ROM. I was wondering - if I install 2.2 and then don't like it, can I revert back by re-flashing the original generic ROM again or won't the installer let me "downgrade" like this?
