HTC Desire :: Switching Between 3G And GSM

Jun 25, 2010

Is there a widget to switch it, or something I can set to automatically change to GSM Only when I'm at home/connected to wifi? The issue I have is at home I get very poor 3G signal, but excellent 2G and it keeps switching between the two, but mostly choosing the bad 3G signal, making calls impossible, random disconnections and sometimes not receiving calls at all?

HTC Desire :: Switching ROM - Any Easier Way?

Aug 26, 2010

The way I do it is a full backup with my backup pro, wipe the phone completely, wipe the a2sd partition, clear the dalvik etc., load new ROM and then proceed to re install everything from backup but my god what a fudge about. Is it really necessary to wipe everytime? I see people talking about changing ROMs often so do you really go through this every time or am I just being over cautious?

HTC Desire :: Switching Between Keypad And Keyboard

Jun 17, 2010

I just bought an HTC desire. I love the different keyboards, but would love to set them as defaults for different tasks. The QWERTY keyboard is too difficult to use while on the move, so I like to use the keypad (mobile set up) when sending text messages. The rest of the time I find the keyboard easier to use but it is a pain to switch between the 2. Is there anyway of setting different defaults, or an easier way of switching between the 2?

HTC Desire :: Keeps Switching To Available Networks Window In Settings

Jun 22, 2010

there is a very annoying bug which keeps switching to the "Available networks" window in Settings spontaneously, whilst I am doing something else (e.g. Surfing the Internet, looking through mail, etc). Thus far, I have hard reset 3 times and also tried powering on and off the device a few times. I also tried to Force Close it, use Task Killer and stop the service, but none of these have worked. Can someone please help me out with a solution to this? I'm considering returning the phone now...as it's making the phone unusable...

I've seen this topic with other Android phones, but I'm still not sure if changing a memory card in the Desire is really as easy as it should be. eg. copy the stock card content to a folder on my PC, move all that to the new card, mount it to the phone and done? Apps, settings, etc unchanged? Anyone out there been through this?

HTC Desire :: Signal Strength - Switching Networks

Jul 22, 2010

I only got the HTC desire yesterday and its my first smartphone.

1. Is there any way of getting the home screen to show what network you are currently connected to?

2. I live in Northern Ireland and have a 3uk phone but work near the border between the republic of ireland and northern ireland. All other phones that I have had allowed me to have a 3uk network connection within my workplace, but now with this phone it will not come off 3Irl and sometimes transfers into O2 Irl, which will cost me a lot if I answer. On 3Irl I can receive calls and messages free but it cost to send out.

HTC Desire :: Dropping Calls When Switching From HSDPA To 3G?

Apr 26, 2010

I noticed my phone has a tendency to drop calls when switching from HSDPA to 3G. My phone dropped calls about 5 times today, so I thought I'd do a little test... I rang someone (display showing 3G) then refreshed my GoogleMail app (display went to H) to see if the call stayed connected... well... it dropped the call. I did the exact same thing again... dropped the call. I tried this about 5 or 6 times using different apps to basically put my phone in HSDPA mode and it is dropping the call when switching between 3G and HSDPA...

HTC Desire HD :: Mobile Network Widget - Switching Off/on Mobile Network Setting From Home Screen

Oct 29, 2010

I have been trying to find a way of quickly switching off/on the Mobile Network setting from the home screen. When searching Google there's loads of pages stating that it is an HTC Widget that can be added. I have checked all the widgets on the Desire HD and cannot seem to find it anywhere. I am using an unbranded handset.

The Desire HD manual even states "You can also add widgets that allow you to quickly switch on or off certain settings of your phone, such as Wi-Fi, Mobile Network...".

Does anyone else with an HD handset have this widget ?

HTC EVO 4G :: Switching To Sprint

May 21, 2010

I have recently gotten interested in the Android OS.Everything just seems a whole lot better than the iPhone OS.So right now, I have a 3GS on ATT.I REALLY want to get the Evo 4G.I can sell my iPhone anywhere from $400-$450 because its in MINT condition. So that would cover the early term. fee on ATT and the phone cost at Best Buy/Shack. I have been with an iPhone since late 08 and have had it jailbroken since day 1.I am loving my iPhone, but its getting a bit old and Android seems to provide that "wow" factor and the "new phone" factor with each Update.I am ready to pull the trigger right now and sell this iPhone before the "new" iPhone is announced/released. But that brings me to my next few questions.

-Should I maybe see what the new iPhone will bring?

-Is AT&T going to get its 'flagship' Android phone with the power of the Evo and the Incredible? Streak? Aero? HTC?Another factor on the Evo.My nickname is Evo, so kinda goes hand n hand. (hint my username haha)Sorry for the long post and the questions,I just want to know that I am making a decision that I end up regretting.

HTC 4G :: Switching From Blackberry To EVO

May 18, 2010

I was hoping to get some of your opinions regarding a decision I have to make. My Sprint upgrade has come and passed, and I am really hoping to get a new phone in the next few months.I currently have a Blackberry Curve 8330,and it's my first smartphone and it's been pretty wonderful, although I do notice it's slow sometimes. For my next phone,I was considering the EVO or the Blackberry Slider (9800) that's supposedly coming to Sprint in the Fall. The main problem I have is that I can't compare my experience with the BB to anything, so I can't really speak to how good it is, etc.Everything about the EVO sounds good, but I'm just worried what exactly I'll be missing leaving Blackberry.Excuse my ignorance, but I'm not even sure how email is handled on any other phone besides a Blackberry.I lurked on some BB forums and they all talk about how great the Blackberry "push" messaging system is, but would the EVO/android/Sense UI provide a similar experience?

HTC EVO 4G :: Likely Switching From IPhone To EVO

Jul 30, 2010

I just joined the forum (actually typing this up on an iPhone 3G, ha) and I'm highly considering making the switch. At first I just wanted out because AT&T's network is so god awful in NYC but when I started to look into the phones and plans I got a little excited about it. With my girlfriends discount we can get a pretty phenomnal deal when compared to AT&T and Android defenitly has some perks when compared to iOS.First off, my girlfriend is concerned that the quality of the service won't be any better. Can anybody speak to the quality of voice and data services in Manhattan? I'd ask a friend but I honestly don't know anybody on the network in NYC. Just to clarify, I'm referring to the 3G network.

Were any of you former iPhone users also mac users? My only real concerns with switching phones is how well the iPhone syncs up with my mac. I know it's not possible for Android to totally stack up but I'm just wondering if it offers anything decent on the syncing front. Is there any kind of front end software? How do you get music on this beast?

I've got a short question: currently I'm running adw.launcher but I want to try launcher pro ... So my question is: WHen I install launcherpro and set it as default launcher, should I uninstall adw.launcher to have better performance? And if yes, are my settings and homescreens kept when I want to switch back to adw.launcher some time? I read about performance issues here somewhere, when adw.launcher with 5 full homescreens is running in background and somewhere, people stated one should remove all widgets from the homescreen before switching to a new launcher.

In the middle of the night I hear a voice saying "Go 100 yards and turn left." so voyager has an exit option in the menu. But what about other apps? They must surely be using up memory and battery power..?

Android :: Speakerphone Switching App

Is there an app that automatically switches from speakerphone to ear piece based on the proximity detector?

I think it would be useful if there was an app that starts when in phone mode, and detects when the phone is being held to my ear and automatically switches from speaker to ear piece and back as the screen turns off or on based on the proximity detector.

With the more and more frequent state laws on hands free cell phone use while driving, something like this could be quite useful. I, for one would be willing to pay for something like this

If you hold down the home button, a folder pops up containing all active applications. You can very easily switch back and forth between open apps this way. I have been using this function to switch between my calorie counter and weight watchers diary since neither have all the functionality I need at the moment.

HTC Hero :: Switching To Sprint

Jul 6, 2010

It's time for my family to get new phones, and I like the price of Sprint's Everything Data Family plan. I've been playing around with a friend's Hero and I really like what I've seen so far. I do have a few questions about it though. Is the Hero still worth it? I know it's a fairly old phone, so how does it stack up to the newer Android phones on the market? I'm already ruling out the EVO because I just can't get on board with its size. It just seems a bit gaudy for me.I'm too frugal to buy a phone before I'm eligible for an upgrade. And I've read at a few places that the Hero is pretty close to being obsolete (not getting an official 2.2 upgrade). So would it be wise to buy the Hero with a new contract, knowing I'd have to be with it for the next 2 years. I don't know anything about rooting or modifying phones. How does that work? Would rooting and installing custom ROMs delay the phone's obsolescence?I guess my main concern is that I don't want to commit to a phone that may not hold up over the next few years.
