HTC Magic :: Stuck In Rooting Process

Jul 10, 2009

I went ahead and attempted to root my Rogers Magic, but at the point where I'm in fastboot mode and cmd prompting "fastboot boot recovery.img" it says "waiting for device" instead of "downloading". Any thoughts about what that means?The update.zip is on my sd card and the recovery image is in my tools directory.

HTC Magic :: Downsides To Rooting Magic?

Apr 15, 2010

I live and use my HTC Magic in Australia on Vodafone. I'm considering rooting it so I can get Android 2.0 or 2.1. I've read though that doing this stops me from being able to use the GPS and a couple other things. Is this true? If so, what other downsides are there to rooting the Magic? And is there a way to get the best of both worlds? Maybe I can get an app that gives me GPS back?

HTC Magic : Rooting Rogers Magic / "How Do I Do Techie Stuff"

Aug 3, 2009

I'm considering rooting my magic and there are a few things I'd like to ask first.

Model number: HTC Magic
Firmware version: 1.5
Baseband version: 62.525.20.18U_3.22.20.17
Kernel version: 2.6.27-dd62d1eb u70000@Android-X01 )
Build number: 2.16.61.6 146733 CL#33776 release-keys

I have a Rogers non-google branded phone with 288mb ram(version 32a)
In a cmd prompt when I typed adb devices it said
"list of devices attached
HT95MNK00979 device"

so anyway.. my first question is, if I screw up, what happens? How likely is it that I will be able to fix it? I have a 2 year warranty so can I sent it in to rogers and have them reflash the original rom?

I was thinking of using this guide. HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - The Offical "How do I do techie stuff" Thread
it seems pretty easy to follow but I was wondering if there are any better/easier/more up to date breakthroughs out there for the rogers magic. any one have one they thing is better?

does it sound like I have everything set up right judging by what came up when I typed adb devices?

it says, "grab fastboot.exe from here (HTC - Support - Flashing your Android Dev Phone with a Factory System Image) and place it in the tools directory of the sdk." There is already a fastbook.exe in the tools directory of my sdk. Should I replace it? I may have put it in there a while ago when I first installed the sdk but I don't think I did..

it says, " [optional]. make a backup with nandroid". How exactly do I do this? I've screen shots of the device where it says something about a nandroid backup. will the option to make a backup just show up on my screen? can I just move it from my sd card to my computer after that?

do I do all of this with the device in fastboot? It doesn't really say in the walkthrough. at what point can I not return?

what rom will I end up with at the end? just the original rogers rom except with root access?

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: A 3g Process Monitor For Still-stuck-on-1.6?

Nov 15, 2010

Can anyone recommend a decent (preferably free) 3g process monitor for my still-stuck-on-1.6 X10?

I already have a general data counter - I use NetCounter - but I want something that shows me which processes or apps are using 3g in real time.

The reason is that something on my phone is regularly up and downloading through 3g. It's not using much data, but it is doing it often and running down my battery. I've checked all the usual suspects to see whether updates are turned on, but it's none of them.

I suspect that I've installed something new that's doing it, but I can't find what it is. I could uninstall everything and build my apps back up one by one, but a 3g process monitor should tell me exactly what's going on.

HTC Magic : Facebook Upload Stuck

Jun 28, 2010

I have an HTC Magic. Yesterday I tried to upload a photo to Facebook and it didn't work - I tried twice more and still nothing. I have three "F" icons at the top of my phone which are "ongoing" but I now want to delete and clear them. Is there anyway to cancel/clear these? If I try opening them, they take me straight to Facebook's notification page. If I hold my finger on them, nothing happens (as it does when deleting other things).

Motorola Droid :: Factory Reset And Rooting - Start Process From Scratch

Feb 18, 2010

Well right now I have a rooted droid thanks to sholesmod and am running bugless beast 0.7.6 at 800. From what I Have read, it is supposed to be one of the fastest ROMs out there. Too be honest, I have almost noticed it to be slower then .7.5. So I have decided to completely erase everything and start completely from scratch. I was going to go back to stock 2.01 and then do a factory restore. Then I was going to reformat my sd card. Would that be the best route to go if I wanted to start from scratch?

Android :: Need Rooting For HTC Magic Singtel

Jan 16, 2010

I am sure this issue has been thrashed to death but it just isn't working for me and the comments I posted on the guide I was using yielded no responses.After a number of people convinced me to root my phone I used THIS GUIDE to try and root my phone.I am currently using an HTC Magic (Singtel, Singapore) running Android 1.5 with Sense UI (which you can download from the HTC website). So, my phone is completely unrooted, however, I have applied the HTC (official) Sense UI package. I'm not sure if this makes any difference to the settings or method I need to use.When I click on Backup recovery image I got the Failed message. So, I clicked on the hidden asterix and tried to flash the image but I got the same message again.So, essentially I am unable to root using the 1 click method (why is it called one click anyway?)I have looked for a comprehensive guide but wherever I go and whatever I try there seems to be something missing. The CyanogenMod guide was pretty good but it seemed like it expected you to know a few things along the way.

HTC Magic :: Unlocking And Rooting From Rogers

Jun 10, 2009

I got my HTC Magic from Rogers almost a week ago and so far am loving it. Here are some of the issues or unknowns I found so far:

1. Found out you cant store and run apps from the SD card. That makes the SD card only half useful since it can only be used for music, vids, photos, etc. I hear the new version of Android might fix this.

2. I couldn't find anywhere information about the applications and whether they continue to run in the background after they are closed. Is there a way to close or kill applications? Should I even care if they're closed or not?..................

Android :: Remote Service Process Persists - I.e. Won't Disappear From Process Table

Feb 21, 2009

At a certain point in my program, when I'm completely done with my service, my activity executes unbindService() and stopService() -- yet the process persists. I can tell that it persists because I run "ps" in "adb -e shell":

CODE:.............

"adb logcat", I can show you the sequence of events:

ACTIVITY: context.unbindService(serviceConnection);

SERVICE: onUnbind();

ACTIVITY: stopService(serviceIntent); & returns true!

SERVICE: onDestroy();

First, my activity calls unbindService(serviceConnection). According to the documentation, unbindService() will "Disconnect from an application service. You will no longer receive calls as the service is restarted, and the service is now allowed to stop at any time." So that is fine, and it is happening.

Appropriately, we see the onUnbind() call happen on the service side. According to the documentation, onUnbind() is called when "all clients have disconnected from a particular interface published by the service." So this confirms the correct service connection is being passed, and that the service is responding accordingly.

Next, my activity calls stopService(serviceIntent), and returns true. According to the documentation, stopService() does the following: "If there is a service matching the given Intent that is already running, then it is stopped and true is returned; else false is returned." Again, this is happening and returning true.

In response, the service's onDestroy() method is called. According to the documentation, onDestroy() is "Called by the system to notify a Service that it is no longer used and is being removed. The service should clean up any resources it holds (threads, registered receivers, etc) at this point. Upon return, there will be no more calls in to this Service object and it is effectively dead."

At this point I expect the process to disappear from the process table. Yet it remains indefinitely. But why?

Also, the process is so persistent that I can bind to it again, and I see that it is the same exact process responding because the PID (process ID) is the same!

Samsung Moment :: Getting Process Com.google.process.gapps Stoped Unexpectedly

Apr 17, 2010

I've searched around the forums (here and SDX forums) and although it seems the few people that had this issue were able to solve it, my case seems a bit different.

It's different because of the people I've read solving the issue, it was a problem with something they changed / removed with gmail / gmail storage or talk / talk storage. And when they cleared the cache or re-installed the problem went away. Also, it seemed that the same people had a problem with downloading from the market...

Neither of the above apply to me, but yet I'm still getting this FC error all the time!

I was helping a friend with their CL14 Moment out of the box...and went from stock 1.5 CL14 to 2.1 DD03 w/Joey recovery to EclairDD10 and v5 root. I then did the streaming media fix, and then the private app (build.prop) fix (all previously done with my phone no problems). I did all of these update right in a row, and after my last re-boot the FC error (process com.google.process.gapps has stoped unexpectedly) started showing up and won't go away.

The only .apk / odex files I removed were the preloaded Sprint apps

Does anybody have any other ideas on how I can get this FC error to stop? I've tried clearing the cache / data for all the mail / talk apps, rebooted, cleared dalvik cache...
