I was watching a You Tube vid and someone said that you do not need to root the Magic in order to put the Hero Rom on the phone. I just got my unlocked (AT&T) Rogers Magic and I was wondering if this is indeed correct?

and it said it was successfully rooted. I can execute su from adb shell (and the phone pops up saying that unknown has been granted superuser). But I don't have flash_image in /system/bin so I can't flash a recovery image, and I tried the instructions in the link in this post:
What am I doing wrong: BootLoader/Flash_Image/Recovery Image (basically download the flash_image, mount system as rw, and push it in to /system/bin) but it still doesn't work. The mount seems to work (doesn't give any error messages) but the adb push command gives: failed to copy 'flash_image' to '/system/bin/flash_image': Permission denied
OK, here is a step by step on how I rooted and flashed my Sprint HTC Hero. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE! Basically to make it easier I'm just going to post the links to the sites where I got the procedures or downloaded the files, it's that simple. View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got an HTC Magic on Rogers that I rooted and flashed to CM5 stable about a month ago. Everything runs great, except occasionally (sometimes once a day, sometimes more) the radio seems to go into la-la land. The 3G icon will disappear, but I still show bars.... however there is no connectivity. Once it falls into this state it seems to kill the battery quite quickly. The only way to wake it back up is to reboot the phone or to toggle airplane mode on then back off. When CM6 stable came out a few days ago, I thought I would give that a shot and see if it made any difference... unfortunately it didn't (runs great otherwise though!). I'm currently using radio version 3.22.26.17... is there perhaps another version I can try?
I just got looking thru my Network settings and I had 3 APN's listed (Rogers 1, Rogers 2 and Rogers MMS I think). With Rogers 1 selected, it would register and I would get the 3G icon. With Rogers 2, it wouldn't... so I've deleted the Rogers 2 entry.
I totally bricked my phone as i was trying to flash it to its original state and when i flash the spl (update[1].SHIPMENT-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.0009H-signed.zip ) i took the battery after it rebooted but i guess before it finished as i saw a magic phone on the screen but could't stop on time from removing the battery. Now nothing make my magic to turn on again, not the power button, not the back + power button, not the home + power button and not even the volume down + power button.
i tried removing the battery, connecting the usb and tried all the possible combinations with no success. Is there any way to get into fastboot, as if i get there then i can reflash my previous spl and i am done. Please help me as i paid over 1000 dollars for this phone here in argentina and there is not htc or rogers customers support here. Is there any pandora battery or adb force awake or adb force power on command?
Have already posted this in "multimedia". Sorry for reposting, but I hadn't seen this group before. Q1: On youtube and other websites I, more often than not, get the message "Cannot play this file". I suppose the reason is that the file format is not supported? Can I download a codecs pack somewhere in order to get more out of my phone? Q2: Is there a flash plugin for the Android browser or an alternative browser available, and where do I get it?

I was asked to press action and update like I did the first time I rooted but after it was finished I tried to go and flash a ROM it just brought me to a screen with an android robot and a triangle with an exclamation point. View 1 Replies View RelatedI was rooted fine with unrevoked forever. I wanted to try a ROM than required me to install the newest version of hboot so I did that. Well I didn't like that ROM so I tried to flash a nandroid restore but it didn't take. So I reinstalled the pc36img that I used when I rooted my phone. Then I rebooted my phone. Now it booted like its not rooted! I don't have superuser app and when I try to reboot into recovery I get a red triangle over a phone.
When I boot into hboot it says I have s-off but I have no idea how to get my phone back to the way it was. Under system info it says I have firmware version 2.1-update1 but I try to look for a froyo update and it says there are none available. I was going to just unroot with the s-on tool but that requires going into recovery which I can't do. What do I do toget my root back!

Latest EVO 4G root uses Flash Lite exploit to do its deed - Engadget Given how similar the phones are, it seems like this vulnerability may also be present in the Inc's Flash Lite build, and may prove more successful in rooting ours if true. Admittedly, i don't really have a rooting need at the moment, but I am sure there are plenty of other eager people out there who might be able to try this....

I have a problem with bluetooth connections:
I'm using a HTC Desire, rooted and flashed with a ROM from Alex-V Android Version 2.3.3 with the 2.6.35.8 Kernel.
I have two bluetooth devices:
MM100 Stereo Headset from Sennheiser
BT-Version: 2.0 + EDR
Protocolls: HSP, HFP, A2ADP, AVRCP
and the Hands free car kit Parrot MK6000 BT-Version: 1.2 Protocolls: HSP, HFP, AADP, AVRCP
I can pair both devices with my Desire and the latest paired device would connect automatically to audiosystem for media and telefone when switched on. The problem is, that the first paired device would not connect automatically to my desire and when it is connected manually it would only connect to the audiosystem for media not telefone. I can't force it to connect with audiosystem for telefone. I checked and un-checked the check-boxes for both connections in every combination
Remark: I don't want to connect both devices at the same time. I know that this is not working
With the original HTC Rom I doesn't had this problem. Both devices would pair and connect perfect.
I am trying to route my HTC Hero (locked to Orange UK).Following jUsT2eXy's instructions :-
1)Download it.
2)Save it to your SD Card ROOT (not in any folders)
3)Open up a file manager on your phone (Download ASTRO File Manager from the marketplace..if you don't have a file manager..)
4)Find the 'InstantRoot.apk' file.
5)Run it.
6)It will say it's been successful
Ok, so on step 4, I am opening ASTRO, clicking InstantRoot, clicking Open App Manager (other displayed option is Browse file), clicking Install (then Install again). It then displays 'Application installed'. However, I get a notification stating 'Install Root failed / Root access was not acquired'. What am I doing wrong? More info if required Firmware = 1.5
